Overview

The Tamiya PS-24 Fluorescent Orange spray paint is a premium synthetic lacquer formulation specifically engineered for decorating transparent polycarbonate (Lexan) RC body shells. Unlike standard acrylic spray paints, PS series spray paints are designed to adhere properly to polycarbonate materials without flaking or peeling, making them essential for anyone painting R/C car bodies, R/C truck shells, or other RC hobby projects that use clear plastic construction. Whether you're building a competitive 1/10 scale RC buggy, restoring a classic R/C monster truck, or customising a bashable RC crawler, this fluorescent orange finish delivers vibrant, eye-catching colour that remains durable through aggressive on-track use and weather exposure.

This spray paint is the professional choice for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliable results on their polycarbonate body shells. The fluorescent orange shade is particularly popular for high-visibility RC car builds, racing applications, and show models where colour impact matters. Each 100ml can contains enough paint to fully coat one complete R/C body shell with proper application technique, or to provide excellent coverage when applied in multiple coats for richer colour depth. The paint cures rapidly after application, allowing you to proceed with decals, weathering, and assembly in minimal time, making it ideal for racers preparing vehicles for competition or hobbyists looking to complete their builds efficiently.

Tamiya's PS spray paint range represents decades of expertise in RC hobby chemistry and has earned recognition as the standard for professional-quality polycarbonate body painting. The paint is completely impervious to oil and fuels, making it suitable for use on both electric-powered and nitro-powered R/C vehicles, from high-speed R/C buggies to challenging R/C off-road trucks. Once properly cured, the finish resists damage from fuel contact, weathering, and the rigours of competitive RC use, ensuring your investment in quality paint produces results that last season after season.

Key Features

  • Polycarbonate-Specific Formula — This paint is formulated specifically for transparent polycarbonate and Lexan R/C body shells, unlike standard acrylic spray paints which will flake and peel off plastic models. The PS formulation bonds correctly to polycarbonate materials and creates a durable finish that withstands the stresses of RC racing and bashing.
  • Fast Curing Synthetic Lacquer — The paint cures rapidly after application, which means you can apply multiple coats, add decals, or complete your RC build in less time than with standard acrylic formulations. Fast curing is essential when preparing vehicles for competition or time-sensitive RC projects.
  • Fluorescent Orange Colour — This is a true fluorescent finish that becomes increasingly vibrant and deeper with each additional coat applied. The colour provides exceptional visibility for R/C cars during outdoor racing and creates a striking appearance whether your RC vehicle is displayed or driven hard on the track.
  • Fuel and Oil Resistant — The paint is completely impervious to petrol, nitro fuel, and lubricating oils, meaning it can be safely used on both electric RC vehicles and nitro-powered RC cars without degradation or colour loss. This makes it ideal for high-performance RC racing applications where fuel exposure is constant.
  • Optimal Coverage Capacity — Each 100ml can provides the exact amount of paint needed to finish one complete R/C body shell, eliminating waste and ensuring you purchase the right quantity for your RC project without running short mid-application.
  • Professional-Grade Quality — Tamiya's PS spray paint range is recognised across the international RC hobby community as the standard for professional polycarbonate body finishing, trusted by RC racers, competitors, and experienced hobbyists who demand reliable results.

Technical Performance

The Tamiya PS-24 is engineered as a synthetic lacquer paint formulation that delivers superior adhesion to polycarbonate materials compared to acrylic spray paints. The paint requires application from the inside of the R/C body shell, as is standard practice with all polycarbonate body finishing. When applying the paint, maintain a distance of approximately 30 centimetres from the inside surface of the shell and apply in light, even coats. After the initial coat cures, additional coats can be applied as necessary to build colour depth and coverage. The fluorescent orange colour intensifies with successive coats, allowing you to control the final vibrancy and darkness of the finish based on your personal preference. The paint is completely safe to use on gas-powered R/C bodies and nitro-powered RC vehicles because it remains unaffected by fuel and oil exposure, making it suitable for both electric and petrol RC applications. Critical safety note: This paint is specifically formulated for polycarbonate applications and should never be applied to plastic models, as the solvent formulation will cause damage to non-polycarbonate plastic materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use PS-24 Fluorescent Orange on my RC car body? — Yes, this paint is specifically formulated for transparent polycarbonate and Lexan R/C body shells. You must apply the paint from the inside of the body shell, not the outside. The paint will adhere correctly to polycarbonate and will not flake or peel like standard acrylic spray paints would.
  • What is the difference between Tamiya TS and Tamiya PS spray paints? — TS spray paints are synthetic lacquers designed for plastic scale models and are not suitable for polycarbonate R/C bodies because they will flake off. PS spray paints are specifically formulated for transparent polycarbonate and Lexan RC body shells and are the correct choice for R/C applications. Never use TS paint on RC bodies; always use PS paint.
  • How much coverage does one 100ml can provide? — Each can contains enough paint to fully finish one complete R/C body shell with proper application technique. Coverage depends on the size and complexity of your body shell and the number of coats applied for colour depth.
  • Can I use this paint on nitro-powered RC vehicles? — Yes, the paint is completely impervious to nitro fuel, petrol, and oil, making it ideal for both electric RC cars and nitro-powered RC vehicles. The finish will not degrade or lose colour when exposed to fuel contact during racing or bashing.
  • How should I apply the paint to my RC body shell? — Always apply PS spray paint from the inside of the polycarbonate body shell, not the outside. Maintain a distance of approximately 30 centimetres from the inside surface. Apply light, even coats and allow proper curing time between coats. Additional coats will intensify the fluorescent orange colour and increase coverage depth.
  • Is the fluorescent orange colour bright? — Yes, this is a genuine fluorescent finish that becomes progressively brighter and more vibrant with each additional coat. The first few coats will appear lighter, but as you apply more coats, the true fluorescent orange colour develops and deepens. For best colour results, spray onto a white primer or white body base, as this dramatically enhances the fluorescent properties.
  • What safety precautions do I need when using this paint? — This is a spray paint product containing solvents that require proper ventilation. Always apply in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors or in a spray booth. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including a respirator or breathing apparatus to avoid inhaling spray paint fumes. Keep away from open flames and heat sources.
  • How long does the paint take to cure? — The paint cures rapidly, allowing you to apply subsequent coats and proceed with assembly, decals, and weathering in a shorter timeframe than with acrylic spray paints. Always allow proper curing time between coats as specified on the product packaging.
