Key Features
- Hardened Steel Construction — Made from hardened steel rather than aluminium, this pinion offers superior durability and resistance to tooth wear, making it ideal for high-performance racing and demanding track conditions where traditional materials might wear prematurely under continuous stress.
- CNC-Cut Teeth — Every tooth is precisely cut using CNC machinery to create perfect tooth geometry and concentricity, which ensures smooth meshing with your spur gear, eliminates gear noise and vibration, and delivers consistent power delivery without losses from tooth slippage.
- M0.6 Module Specification — The M0.6 pitch rating ensures compatibility with the wide range of RC cars equipped with M0.6 gearbox systems, giving you access to a full selection of spur gears and allowing precise tuning of your vehicle's performance characteristics.
- 18-Tooth Configuration — The 18-tooth count provides an excellent mid-range gear ratio that balances acceleration response with top speed capability, making it suitable for various track layouts and driving styles without requiring extreme gearing choices.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed to fit motors with a 3.17mm diameter output shaft, a standard size found across many electric RC car platforms, ensuring straightforward installation without requiring adapters or modifications.
- Precision European Manufacturing — Manufactured entirely in Europe using specialised pinion and spur gear cutting machinery, guaranteeing the highest quality standards and consistency across every component produced.
- Tooth Width and Length Optimisation — With a 4mm tooth width and 9mm overall length, this pinion is precisely dimensioned to deliver maximum strength whilst maintaining the lightweight characteristics essential for responsive RC performance.
- Easy Identification — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth count for quick and accurate identification, making it simple to manage multiple gear ratios if you run different setups for different track conditions.
- 1.5mm Hex Key Installation — Secured using a standard 1.5mm hex key set screw, making installation and removal straightforward with common RC tools found in any modeller's toolkit.
Technical Performance
The Corally M0.6 Pinion Short Hardened Steel 18 Teeth represents a significant step up in transmission performance for serious RC car enthusiasts. The use of hardened steel rather than standard aluminium provides substantially increased resistance to tooth shearing and wear, especially important when running high-torque brushless motors on compact RC cars where power density is maximised. The material composition delivers improved longevity during extended racing sessions, meaning fewer gear replacements over the course of a season and consistent performance characteristics as the gear wears gradually rather than catastrophically failing under load.
The precision CNC-cutting process creates tooth profiles with exact involute geometry and minimal run-out, critical factors in gear mesh quality and efficiency. When this pinion engages with your spur gear, the perfect tooth shape ensures full-face contact across the entire width, distributing loads evenly and eliminating the stress concentration points that occur with poorly-cut or cast gears. This engineering precision translates directly to smoother power delivery, reduced drivetrain noise, and improved efficiency where more of your motor's power reaches the wheels rather than being wasted in gear friction and slip.
At 9mm in length with a 4mm tooth width, this short pinion is optimally dimensioned for compact gearbox arrangements typical of modern 1/10-scale and smaller RC cars. The M0.6 module specification has become the standard across many European and Japanese RC manufacturers, ensuring you'll find a comprehensive range of spur gears and alternative pinion options to fine-tune your specific vehicle's performance. Whether you're running a highly competitive race car or a weekend basher, the ability to adjust your final drive ratio gives you control over throttle response, top speed capability and traction characteristics to match your track or terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this pinion suitable for my RC car? — This M0.6 module pinion is compatible with all RC cars equipped with M0.6 gearbox systems, which includes models from Team Corally and many other European and Japanese manufacturers. Check your vehicle's documentation to confirm your gearbox uses M0.6 gearing, and verify your motor shaft diameter is 3.17mm. If you're uncertain about compatibility, contact our RC Model Shop team for assistance.
- Why should I choose hardened steel instead of aluminium? — Hardened steel pinions offer superior durability and resistance to tooth wear compared to aluminium alternatives. For high-performance racing where you're running powerful brushless motors, hardened steel significantly extends gear life and prevents catastrophic tooth failure. If you bash casually with lower power levels, aluminium may be sufficient, but for serious competitors, hardened steel is the professional choice.
- What tooth count should I choose for my track? — The 18-tooth pinion provides a balanced mid-range gear ratio suitable for most track layouts. Lower tooth counts increase top speed but reduce acceleration, whilst higher counts improve acceleration but limit maximum velocity. For competitive racing, many drivers maintain 2-3 different pinion options to optimise for different venues. Our RC Model Shop team can advise on the best selection for your specific track conditions.
- How difficult is it to install this pinion? — Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance experience. Simply remove your old pinion by loosening the 1.5mm hex key set screw, slide the new pinion onto your motor shaft, align it properly with the spur gear, and tighten the set screw securely. This is a job any RC enthusiast can accomplish in minutes with standard tools.
- How often will I need to replace this pinion? — With proper maintenance and the durability of hardened steel construction, this pinion should provide extended service life compared to aluminium alternatives, especially under high-load racing conditions. Regular inspection of tooth condition, proper lubrication of gear mesh, and avoiding running damaged spur gears will maximise pinion longevity.
- Is this part available in other tooth counts? — Yes, Team Corally manufactures the M0.6 Short pinion in a complete range of tooth counts, allowing you to select the exact gearing ratio needed for your specific application and track characteristics. RC Model Shop can supply alternative tooth counts upon request.
