Key Features
- AR44 Single Piece Axles — These robust single-piece axle housings provide exceptional strength and durability, featuring a small pumpkin design that increases ground clearance while maintaining authentic scale realism. The optimised 3.75 gear ratio reduces torque twist significantly, whilst high pinion gears deliver added ground clearance, better driveshaft angles, and increased longevity—critical advantages for serious trail running.
- AX10 Transmission with Full Bearing Kit — The transmission delivers authentic scale appearance on the outside whilst housing strong, all-metal Axial gears internally. It features a realistic bell housing, oil pan, and 4x4 transfer case design. The 56T spur gear and 15T pinion combination utilises 32-pitch specifications for maximum durability, with a final drive ratio of 40.44 (adjustable range 33.69 to 54.15) and includes a complete set of ball bearings for smooth, efficient operation.
- AR44 Universal Axle Set — Universal joint axles allow up to 45 degrees of steering articulation whilst providing smoother, more efficient action for higher performance and reduced mechanical stress. The hardened steel construction ensures longevity even in demanding trail conditions.
- All-Aluminium Suspension Links — Every link, including the steering components, is constructed from aluminium rather than plastic. The custom tapered centre and flared end design, finished in grey anodised aluminium, provides both durability and authentic scale aesthetics. Large M4 rod ends ensure responsive steering and suspension movement.
- 4-Link Rear Suspension Geometry — This proven suspension architecture significantly reduces axle steer and torque twist, delivering more predictable handling characteristics and better weight distribution across obstacles. The design minimises bump steer for nearly zero deflection under compression.
- Chassis-Mounted Servo (CMS) — The servo is positioned on the chassis frame rather than on top of the axle, exactly as a full-size truck's steering box sits on the frame. This enhances authentic scale proportions, improves suspension geometry, and includes anodised aluminium links with M4 rod ends. The adjustable servo mounting system accommodates a wide range of servo brands and sizes for maximum compatibility.
- All-Metal Twin C-Channel Frame — The chassis features an authentic all-metal twin C-channel steel frame construction, providing superior strength and rigidity compared to composite alternatives. This is scale trail engineering at its finest, delivering the structural integrity serious builders demand.
- Coil-Over Shock Suspension — The coil-over shock system offers adjustable travel from 2.4 to 3.5 inches (61-90mm), allowing fine-tuning for different terrain and driving styles. This suspension platform is optimised for rock crawling and technical trail work.
- Efficient 4WD Drivetrain — The forward, brake, and reverse drive system delivers responsive control with improved driveshaft angles throughout the drivetrain, reducing stress on moving parts and extending component lifespan.
- Bevel Gear Differential — The 30T/8T bevel gear differential is precisely engineered for smooth power distribution and realistic torque characteristics.
Technical Performance
The Axial SCX10.2 Raw Builders Kit is engineered as a 1/10 scale electric RC rock crawler with exceptional attention to performance detail. The all-metal construction and precision bearing kit throughout the drivetrain ensure smooth operation and long-term reliability. With ground clearance of 3.0 inches (77mm) and a wheelbase of 11.4 inches (290mm), this chassis delivers authentic 1/10 scale proportions whilst maintaining the obstacle-clearing capability expected from serious trail rigs. The complete bearing kit supplied with this model eliminates initial friction and wear, enabling peak performance from the moment of assembly. The transmission system, with its 40.44 final drive ratio and 32-pitch gears, provides flexible performance tuning options—you can adjust the gear ratio to suit your preferred driving style and terrain, with possible ratios ranging from 33.69 to 54.15. The AR44 axles with high-pinion configuration offer superior driveshaft angles and clearance compared to conventional low-pinion designs. Assembly time is approximately 5-7 hours for experienced builders, though careful setup and customisation may extend this depending on your specific configuration choices. The overall dimensions are 19.25 inches long, 8.9 inches wide, and 9.4 inches tall, with an assembled weight of 4.0 pounds (1.81kg) before the addition of motor, battery, receiver, and body components. This weight distribution and proportioning creates an ideal platform for scale crawling performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Axial SCX10.2 Raw Builders Kit suitable for beginners to RC crawling? — The SCX10.2 is best suited for intermediate to advanced builders with RC experience. The kit requires approximately 5-7 hours of assembly and assumes familiarity with mechanical setup, soldering, and radio system configuration. However, the builder's kit approach eliminates the technical barriers of scratch-building, making it an excellent stepping stone for experienced RC enthusiasts moving into custom builds. Beginners might prefer a ready-to-run model first.
- What battery system does the SCX10.2 Raw Builders Kit require? — The kit is compatible with either 2S LiPo batteries or 6S NiMH batteries, sold separately. LiPo offers higher performance and lighter weight, whilst NiMH provides more traditional, stable power delivery. Your choice depends on your motor selection and desired performance characteristics. A compatible LiPo charger is required if you select LiPo power.
- What makes the complete bearing kit significant for this model? — The inclusion of a complete bearing kit ensures every rotating component—transmission, differentials, and driveshafts—operates with minimal friction from day one. This translates to smoother action, more efficient power delivery, extended component lifespan, and better overall performance. Without quality bearings, plastic-on-metal friction creates wear that degrades performance over time.
- How does the SCX10.2 differ from earlier SCX10 models? — The SCX10 II generation introduced significant upgrades including scale AR44 high-pinion axles (replacing earlier designs), a chassis-mounted servo for improved scale authenticity and suspension geometry, a completely redesigned transmission with improved driveshaft angles, a front-mounted battery tray for better weight distribution, all-aluminium suspension links, and a suspension system engineered for nearly zero bump steer. These changes make the SCX10 II substantially more capable and refined than the original SCX10.
- Can I use different servo sizes and brands with this kit? — Yes. The chassis-mounted servo system features an adjustable mounting arrangement that accommodates a wide range of servo brands and sizes, providing excellent flexibility for builders who have preferred servo options.
- What is the ground clearance and is it suitable for technical trails? — The SCX10.2 offers 3.0 inches (77mm) of ground clearance, combined with the small pumpkin axle design that provides additional effective clearance. This geometry is specifically engineered for rock crawling and technical trail work, though actual ground clearance will vary depending on your chosen body, tyres, and wheel combination.
- What is the approximate assembly time for the SCX10.2 Raw Builders Kit? — Experienced builders should allow approximately 5-7 hours for complete assembly. This timeframe assumes you have all additional components (motor, ESC, servo, radio, battery) ready to integrate during assembly, and that you have familiarity with RC mechanical assembly and electrical configuration.
