Key Features
- XX-Long Length Design — The extended length of these GTR shocks provides significantly greater suspension travel compared to standard shocks, allowing your RC vehicle to absorb larger impacts and maintain better traction over rough terrain and obstacles.
- 13mm Bore Diameter with 70% More Oil Capacity — The larger 13mm bore holds over 70% more silicone oil than standard Ultra Shocks, which means increased damping consistency, smoother suspension action, and more predictable handling characteristics throughout your run.
- PTFE-Coated Aluminium Bodies — The shock bodies are constructed from high-quality anodised aluminium and coated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) for the slickest damping action available, ensuring smooth, gliding piston movement with minimal friction and wear.
- Titanium-Nitride (TiN) Coated Shafts — The shock shafts feature a hard titanium-nitride coating that resists scuffing and damage from debris, significantly increases shaft durability, and virtually eliminates stiction (static friction), ensuring consistent damping performance throughout your session.
- X-Ring Seals — Advanced X-ring seals keep the silicone oil securely inside the shock while preventing dirt, sand and water from contaminating the damping fluid, maintaining consistent performance in all conditions and extending the service life of your shocks.
- Threaded Spring Collars for Easy Adjustment — Spring preload and ride height adjustments are accomplished simply by turning the threaded spring collars—no need for separate spacer kits or complex tools, making it quick and easy to fine-tune your suspension setup at the track.
- Locking Screw on Lower Spring Retainers — The lower spring retainers feature an integrated locking screw that prevents the frustrating problem of the spring popping off mid-run, ensuring your suspension stays intact during the most aggressive driving.
- Fully Assembled Design — These shocks arrive completely assembled with damping and are ready to install directly into your vehicle, saving you assembly time and ensuring professional-level construction quality.
- Sold in Pairs — Package includes two shocks (front and rear pair), though springs must be purchased separately to match your preferred setup and driving style.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GTR XX-Long shocks represent serious engineering advances in RC suspension design. The 13mm bore diameter is significantly larger than standard shocks, providing a substantial increase in oil capacity that translates to more consistent damping force throughout compression and extension cycles. This larger capacity means the damping characteristics remain stable even during intense driving sessions where heat buildup could otherwise affect performance. The PTFE coating on the aluminium bodies creates an exceptionally slick surface that minimises friction between the piston and cylinder wall, resulting in smooth, responsive suspension action that precisely follows terrain. The titanium-nitride coated shafts are harder and more resistant to wear than uncoated steel, protecting against the microscopic scratching that creates stiction—that undesirable static friction that makes suspension response unpredictable. X-ring seals provide superior sealing compared to traditional O-rings, keeping the 30-weight pure silicone shock oil perfectly clean and preventing contamination that would degrade damping performance. The threaded spring collar design gives you infinite adjustment capability rather than the discrete steps offered by spacer-based systems, allowing you to dial in your ride height and spring preload with precision. These shocks are specifically engineered for 1/10 scale RC vehicles and are compatible with Traxxas models including the Rustler 4X4 Ultimate, Slash 4X4 family, Stampede 4X4 models and Hoss 4X4 VXL vehicles, making them an accessible upgrade for owners of popular UK RC models.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between GTR shocks and Ultra Shocks? — GTR shocks feature a significantly larger 13mm bore diameter that holds over 70% more damping oil compared to standard Ultra Shocks, providing more consistent damping performance and smoother suspension action. The PTFE-coated bodies and TiN-coated shafts of GTR shocks also offer superior durability and minimal stiction compared to standard shocks. The threaded spring collars on GTR shocks allow infinite ride height adjustment without requiring separate spacer kits.
- Why are these shocks sold without springs? — Selling shocks separately from springs allows you to choose spring rates that perfectly match your specific driving style, local terrain conditions, and vehicle weight. Different spring rates dramatically affect how your vehicle handles, so having the freedom to select your own springs is essential for serious tuning and racing. Softer springs provide a smoother ride but more body roll, while stiffer springs reduce roll but can feel harsh on rough terrain.
- How do I adjust ride height with these shocks? — The Traxxas GTR shocks feature threaded spring collars that allow you to adjust ride height by simply turning the collar up or down the shock body. A useful tip is to fill in one of the ridges on the collar with paint so you can easily count each full turn as you make adjustments. Ride height should generally be set close to the middle of your suspension travel, with many drivers setting front ride height 1-3mm lower than rear to improve steering and prevent the chassis from leaning back under acceleration.
- Can I use these shocks on any RC vehicle? — No, these GTR XX-long shocks are specifically designed for 1/10 scale Traxxas vehicles. They are replacement parts for Rustler 4X4 Ultimate and Slash Modified models, and compatible accessory parts for Ford F-150 Raptor R 4X4, Rustler 4X4, Slash 4X4 variants, Stampede 4X4 variants, Hoss 4X4 VXL, and other compatible 1/10 scale Traxxas 4WD vehicles. Always verify compatibility with your specific model before purchasing.
- What oil viscosity do these shocks use? — The Traxxas GTR shocks come filled with 30-weight pure silicone shock oil, which is the standard damping fluid used in most Traxxas models and provides optimal performance for versatile driving across different terrains. You can fine-tune damping by changing to higher or lower viscosity oils—higher viscosity increases damping force for smoother conditions, while lower viscosity reduces damping for a more compliant ride on rough terrain.
- How do I adjust damping force? — Damping force in GTR shocks can be adjusted in two ways. First, you can change the shock piston, as GTR pistons have two holes with sizes ranging from 0.95mm to 1.6mm—use 1.5mm pistons to increase damping and 1.6mm pistons to reduce it. Second, you can change the silicone oil viscosity, with higher viscosity oil increasing damping and lower viscosity reducing it. Most setups start with 30-weight oil and adjust from there, though if you need significant changes, you should also adjust your spring rate accordingly.
- What does PTFE coating do? — PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is a slippery synthetic coating that drastically reduces friction between the piston and the shock cylinder wall. This means smoother, more responsive damping action, more consistent performance throughout your run, and longer service life due to reduced wear. PTFE-coated shocks like these GTR units deliver noticeably slicker suspension feel compared to uncoated shocks.
- Why are TiN coated shafts better? — Titanium-nitride (TiN) coating is an extremely hard, wear-resistant surface that protects the shock shaft from being scratched or scuffed by debris and repeated use. These microscopic scratches create stiction—unwanted static friction that makes damping unpredictable and jerky. By eliminating stiction through TiN coating, these shocks deliver smooth, consistent damping response that stays predictable lap after lap.
- What do X-rings do? — X-rings are advanced seals shaped like an X in cross-section, providing superior sealing compared to traditional O-rings. They keep the silicone damping oil sealed inside the shock while preventing dirt, sand, mud and water from contaminating the fluid. Clean oil means consistent, predictable damping performance, and X-rings help these shocks maintain performance in all driving conditions.
- How do I know what spring rate to choose? — Spring rate selection depends on your terrain, driving style and weight. The Traxxas support resources recommend starting with your model's factory spring rate as a baseline, then experimenting from there. Generally, stiffer springs (higher rate numbers) work better for smooth, high-grip surfaces and improve cornering performance through lower ride height and lower centre of gravity, while softer springs work better for rough terrain and loose conditions, providing more ground clearance and better absorption of big hits.
