Overview
The Traxxas 34-T Pinion Gear (0.8 metric pitch) Set (fits 5mm shaft) TRX5639 is an essential replacement component for RC enthusiasts and competitive racers in the UK who demand precision performance from their Traxxas vehicles. This genuine Traxxas pinion gear is engineered to exacting standards, ensuring reliable drivetrain performance whether you are bashing around your local track or competing at a serious level. The 34-tooth configuration offers excellent acceleration and control characteristics, making it a popular choice among RC car UK owners who operate high-performance desert racers and short course trucks.
Designed with meticulous attention to detail, this pinion gear features a 0.8 metric pitch and a 5mm shaft bore, making it fully compatible with Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer (UDR) models and other compatible vehicles in the Traxxas range. As an authorised Traxxas retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine OEM components that maintain the integrity and performance of your RC investment. Whether you are replacing a worn gear after extended use or upgrading your drivetrain for a specific driving condition, this pinion gear delivers the consistent meshing and longevity that serious RC enthusiasts expect from Traxxas components.
The importance of using genuine Traxxas replacement parts cannot be overstated. Counterfeit or inferior pinion gears can result in poor mesh alignment, excessive wear on the spur gear, vibration, and ultimately catastrophic drivetrain failure during critical moments of your racing or bashing session. This TRX5639 pinion gear is manufactured to Traxxas specifications and undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure it meets the demanding requirements of modern RC vehicles. RC car enthusiasts across the UK trust Traxxas components because they deliver predictable performance and exceptional durability.
Key Features
- 34-Tooth Configuration — The 34-tooth design provides the ideal balance between acceleration response and top-end speed for most driving conditions, ensuring your RC vehicle performs optimally across varied terrain and driving styles without sacrificing either speed or control.
- 0.8 Metric Pitch — This metric pitch specification ensures precise meshing with compatible spur gears, reducing backlash and vibration whilst delivering smooth, efficient power transfer from motor to wheels, which translates directly to better handling and more responsive steering inputs.
- 5mm Shaft Bore — The precisely machined 5mm shaft diameter fits securely into the motor output shaft of compatible Traxxas vehicles, providing a solid connection that prevents slipping and ensures consistent drivetrain engagement during aggressive acceleration and high-speed running.
- Genuine Traxxas Manufacture — As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component produced by Traxxas, this pinion gear is manufactured to the exact specifications and quality standards required for optimal performance, ensuring compatibility and longevity that aftermarket alternatives cannot guarantee.
- Optimal Gear Pitch Standard — The 32-pitch specification (compatible with the 0.8 metric pitch system) ensures this pinion gear works seamlessly with OEM Traxxas spur gears, maintaining the precise tooth contact pattern necessary for efficient power transmission and extended component lifespan.
- Direct Compatibility with Premium Traxxas Models — This pinion gear is specifically engineered to fit Traxxas UDR (Unlimited Desert Racer) variants, including the Pro-Scale 4WD RTR Short Course Truck models equipped with Rigid Industries and Fox Racing packages, ensuring drop-in compatibility without modification.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas 34-T Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of precision engineering for RC drivetrain components. Every aspect of this gear's design and manufacture has been optimised for performance, durability and reliability. The 34-tooth configuration combined with the 0.8 metric pitch creates a gear ratio sweet spot that delivers responsive acceleration whilst maintaining adequate top-end speed for competitive racing and high-speed bashing. The 5mm shaft bore is precisely machined to tolerances that ensure a secure fit on motor output shafts, eliminating the slippage and wobbling that can occur with poorly manufactured alternatives. The hardened steel construction resists wear and deformation even under the extreme forces generated during rapid acceleration, cornering at full speed, and aggressive driving. The tooth profile is engineered to distribute loading evenly across the contact patch with the spur gear, reducing stress concentration points that can lead to premature tooth breakage. This attention to material science and mechanical engineering is why serious RC racers and weekend bashers alike choose genuine Traxxas components. The pinion gear's performance characteristics are particularly well-suited to the demands of desert racing, where vehicles experience rapid changes in terrain, sustained high-speed running, and the occasional impact from rocks and obstacles. Whether you are operating a ready to run RC vehicle or a finely-tuned competition machine, this pinion gear will maintain the precise drivetrain engagement necessary for peak performance session after session.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this pinion gear compatible with my Traxxas RC car? — The Traxxas 34-T Pinion Gear TRX5639 is specifically designed to fit the Traxxas UDR (Unlimited Desert Racer) Pro-Scale 4WD RTR Short Course Truck models, including both the Rigid Industries and Fox Racing variants. Before purchasing, verify that your vehicle has a 5mm motor shaft and uses 32-pitch gears. If you are uncertain about compatibility with your specific Traxxas model, we recommend contacting our expert team at RC Model Shop for clarification.
- What is the difference between metric pitch and imperial pitch gears? — Metric pitch (measured in millimetres between teeth) and imperial pitch (measured as 32-pitch, 48-pitch etc) are different measurement systems that are not interchangeable. The 0.8 metric pitch specification on this gear is equivalent to a 32-pitch system. Using the wrong pitch system will result in poor meshing, noise, and eventual gear failure, so always verify your vehicle's original specifications before purchasing a replacement pinion gear.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The lifespan of a pinion gear depends heavily on driving style, terrain, maintenance practices and running conditions. Aggressive racing and high-speed bashing will wear gears faster than casual recreational driving. Inspect your pinion gear regularly for signs of tooth wear, chipping or discolouration. If you notice increased drivetrain noise, vibration or slipping sensation during acceleration, it is time to replace the pinion gear. Regular maintenance including proper lubrication of the gear mesh will significantly extend component life.
- What is the correct way to install a pinion gear? — The pinion gear should be pressed onto the motor output shaft with the teeth facing forward and the bore securely seated. Many users prefer to use a small amount of medium-strength threadlock on the shaft to prevent accidental rotation, though some prefer a light press fit without adhesive for easier future removal. Ensure the pinion gear meshes smoothly with the spur gear with appropriate backlash (typically 0.3-0.5mm) to prevent binding and excessive wear. If you are unfamiliar with drivetrain assembly, our experienced team at RC Model Shop can provide guidance.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears are replacement wear items in RC vehicles. They gradually lose material through contact with the spur gear over extended use. Additionally, damaged or worn pinion gears can cause drivetrain noise, poor acceleration response, and accelerated wear on the spur gear and motor bearings. Replacing a worn pinion gear is typically far more economical than replacing the entire drivetrain or motor assembly.
