Overview

The Radient Futaba HD Extension Lead with Clip 500mm (model RDNAC010204) is an essential accessory for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand reliable connectivity and signal integrity in their hobby setups. Whether you're piloting a brushless RC car, adjusting servo positions on your RC truck, or extending the reach of your receiver connections, this heavy-duty extension lead ensures that power and control signals travel cleanly over added distance. The 500mm length strikes the perfect balance between extended reach and manageable cable routing, making it ideal for complex RC builds where standard connector lengths simply won't suffice.

Built to the exacting standards that Futaba-style connections demand, this male-to-female lead is engineered with 22AWG 60-strand wire construction that maintains signal fidelity and minimises voltage drop, even when you need to run longer distances between your receiver, servos, and battery systems. For anyone serious about RC performance—whether you're a weekend basher, a competitive racer, or a dedicated RC hobbyist in the UK—having quality extension leads in your spares box is non-negotiable. This lead comes complete with a secure connector clip that prevents accidental disconnection during high-speed manoeuvres or rough terrain bashing.

RC Model Shop stocks the Radient Futaba HD Extension Lead because we understand that reliable connections are the foundation of safe, enjoyable RC operation. When you're pushing your RC buggy, RC monster truck, or precision RC crawler to the limit, you need components you can trust absolutely. This extension lead delivers that peace of mind.

Key Features

  • 500mm length including connectors — The 500mm total length (approximately 19.69 inches) provides substantial extension capability whilst remaining flexible and easy to route through crowded electronics bays, making it perfect for complex RC car builds and custom setups.
  • Male to Female Futaba connector configuration — This configuration allows the lead to extend between Futaba-style connectors, which are the industry standard for servo, receiver, and battery connections across most RC cars and trucks available in the UK market today.
  • 60-strand wire construction — The 60-strand composition ensures maximum flexibility and durability, preventing wire breakage from repeated bending and movement, which is critical for RC hobby use where connections are constantly adjusted during building and maintenance.
  • 22AWG wire gauge — This wire size is specifically engineered to carry both signal and power reliably over the extended 500mm length whilst maintaining the voltage levels your servos, receivers, and other components need to operate at peak performance.
  • Secure connector clip included — The integrated connector clip holds the lead firmly in place, preventing accidental disconnection during aggressive driving, high-speed runs, or when navigating challenging terrain with your RC monster truck or rock crawler.
  • 1.5mm outer diameter — The slender profile makes routing and bundling easier whilst still maintaining the robust construction needed for reliable power and signal delivery in demanding RC applications.
  • Heavy-duty construction — Purpose-built with Futaba connectors in black, white, and red colour-coded wires, this lead meets the durability standards expected by serious RC car enthusiasts and professionals throughout the United Kingdom.

Technical Performance

The Radient Futaba HD Extension Lead represents excellent engineering focused entirely on connectivity reliability. The 22AWG wire gauge is specifically calibrated to handle both power delivery and signal transmission over a 500mm distance without significant voltage drop—a critical consideration when your receiver, servo motors, or speed controller depend on clean, stable electrical connections. The 60-strand construction delivers exceptional flexibility, which translates directly to easier installation in cramped RC chassis bays where space is at a premium, whether you're working on a 1/10 scale RC car, a larger rock crawler, or a high-performance brushless RC truck. The wire's outer diameter of 1.5mm keeps the overall cable profile slender, yet the robust Futaba connectors maintain perfect contact pressure to ensure rock-solid connections even during the vibration and impacts inherent to RC hobby use. The included connector clip is a thoughtful engineering addition that addresses a real-world problem: accidental disconnection during high-speed driving can cause loss of control or damage to your RC vehicle. By securing the lead positively to prevent strain on the connector pins, this clip extends component lifespan and prevents frustrating mid-run failures. The colour-coded wires (black, white, and red) follow universal standards, making polarity identification instantaneous and reducing the risk of reverse-polarity damage to sensitive electronics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this extension lead suitable for all RC vehicles and setups? — Yes, provided your RC car, truck, or crawler uses Futaba-style connectors. This is the standard connector type across the vast majority of RC hobby equipment in the UK, including servos, receivers, battery connectors, and speed controllers. If you're unsure whether your setup uses Futaba connectors, they feature distinctive rectangular pins in black, white, and red-coded housings.
  • Will a 500mm extension lead cause voltage drop or signal degradation? — No. The 22AWG wire gauge is specifically chosen to deliver both power and signal cleanly over this distance. Voltage drop is minimised, ensuring your servos receive stable voltage for crisp, responsive control, and your receiver maintains a clean signal. This is why using the correct wire gauge is essential for RC reliability.
  • How does the connector clip prevent disconnection? — The included clip physically locks onto both the male and female Futaba connectors, creating a positive mechanical lock that prevents accidental separation during driving, crashes, or vibration. This is especially valuable during high-speed bashings or competitive racing where RC vehicles experience constant impacts and movement.
  • Can I use this lead for extending battery connections? — Yes, absolutely. The 22AWG rating is suitable for power delivery applications including battery connector extensions. However, if you're drawing very high current (more than 60 amps continuous), you may want to consult with an RC specialist to ensure it meets your specific power requirements.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes. Extension leads are fundamental RC components, and the Radient HD lead is built to commercial-grade standards. Beginners should feel confident using this lead for receiver-to-servo connections, receiver-to-battery extensions, or any other Futaba-connector application. The age recommendation of 14+ reflects general RC hobby guidelines.
  • What makes this a heavy-duty lead compared to standard extension leads? — The 60-strand construction and 22AWG wire gauge are the key differentiators. Many budget extension leads use thinner wire or fewer strands, which can lead to signal noise, voltage drop, and connector heating under load. The Radient HD lead uses professional-grade construction for reliability and longevity.
