Overview
The ARRMA 32T 0.8Mod Safe-D5 Pinion Gear is an essential replacement and upgrade part for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and performance from their electric power systems. Whether you're a competitive racer, a weekend basher, or someone who enjoys pushing their RC car to the limit, this precision-engineered pinion gear is the perfect addition to your RC tool box. Manufactured from tough steel, this gear is specifically designed to withstand the extreme conditions that modern RC racing and bashing environments demand, making it an ideal choice for anyone running a brushless RC system.
The Safe-D5 pinion gear represents ARRMA's commitment to quality engineering and driver safety. Unlike standard pinion gears where the set-screw can back out during aggressive driving, potentially causing loss of drive and braking power, this gear features an intelligent D-shaped hole that matches your motor shaft profile. This clever design ensures that even if your set-screw loosens, you won't lose drive or brake function—a critical safety feature that gives you peace of mind whether you're racing on the track or bashing in the backyard. For RC car owners in the UK looking for reliable, durable transmission components, this 32-tooth gear offers the perfect balance of durability and performance.
At just 18.99 GBP, this is an affordable way to upgrade or replace your existing pinion gear with a component that has been precision manufactured to the highest standards. The wide tooth profile ensures smooth operation and efficient power transfer from your motor to your vehicle's drivetrain, reducing noise and wear while maximising your RC car's performance and longevity.
Key Features
- Strong and Durable Steel Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from tough steel that provides long-lasting performance even under extreme RC conditions, whether you're racing competitively or enjoying recreational bashing sessions.
- Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The carefully engineered wide tooth profile ensures smooth, quiet operation and efficient power transfer, reducing stress on your motor and drivetrain whilst maximising performance consistency.
- Safe-D5 Design with D-Shaped Hole — The innovative D-shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile precisely, ensuring that drive and braking power are maintained even if your set-screw backs out during use, providing critical safety and reliability.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically to suit 5mm motor shaft diameter, this gear offers perfect fitment and engagement with standard motor specifications used in most modern brushless RC car systems.
- Precision Manufactured Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The meticulously machined set-screw hole ensures secure fastening and prevents slippage, allowing you to focus on driving rather than worrying about mechanical failure.
- Includes E-Clip for Motor Shaft Retention — The supplied E-clip provides additional security on your motor shaft, working in conjunction with the set-screw to deliver maximum retention and reliability during high-stress driving situations.
Technical Performance
This ARRMA pinion gear represents the pinnacle of precision engineering for RC car power transmission. At 32 teeth with a 0.8 module gear pitch specification, this gear is engineered to provide optimal performance in brushless RC systems where reliability and consistency are paramount. The use of high-quality steel construction ensures that the gear can handle the rigorous demands of modern RC racing, from high-speed circuit racing to aggressive off-road bashing. The precision manufacturing process guarantees tight tolerances and smooth tooth engagement, which translates directly to reduced vibration, lower noise levels, and improved overall drivetrain efficiency. The Safe-D5 design is particularly ingenious for UK RC enthusiasts: by incorporating a D-shaped bore that matches your motor shaft, ARRMA has solved one of the most common problems experienced by RC car owners—the backing-out set-screw that causes sudden loss of drive mid-race or during crucial moments. This design philosophy demonstrates ARRMA's deep understanding of real-world RC driving challenges and their commitment to delivering solutions that work reliably in practice, not just in theory. Whether you're upgrading your existing RC car or replacing a worn gear, this component will integrate seamlessly with standard 5mm motor shafts found in most modern brushless RC systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the Safe-D5 design actually do, and why should I choose it over a standard pinion gear? — The Safe-D5 design features a D-shaped hole that matches your motor shaft profile. This is crucial because if your set-screw backs out during driving (a common problem in RC cars), a standard round-hole pinion gear will spin freely and you'll lose both drive and brake power. With the Safe-D pinion, the D-shaped hole locks onto the corresponding D-shaped motor shaft, so you maintain drive and braking power even if the set-screw loosens. This is a genuine safety and reliability advantage, especially if you're racing competitively or doing extended bashing sessions.
- Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners, or is it only for experienced RC drivers? — This is an excellent choice for beginners and experienced drivers alike. If you're new to RC cars and you're upgrading components or doing your first maintenance, this gear is straightforward to install on any RC car with a 5mm motor shaft. The included set-screw and E-clip make installation simple, and the Safe-D5 design actually makes your car more reliable by preventing common mechanical failures. Experienced drivers will appreciate the precision engineering and durability that allows them to push their cars harder without worry.
- What motor shaft size does this gear fit, and how do I know if it's compatible with my RC car? — This pinion gear is designed to suit a 5mm motor shaft diameter. If your RC car uses a standard brushless motor with a 5mm shaft (which is the case with most modern brushless RC cars), this gear will be compatible. Check your motor specifications or measure your motor shaft to confirm it's 5mm before ordering. The 32-tooth count and 0.8 module pitch are standard specifications that work with most modern RC car setups.
- What is the gear pitch (module), and why does it matter? — The 0.8 module specification refers to the gear pitch, which is a standardised measurement that determines how the teeth on this pinion gear will mesh with the spur gear on your RC car's transmission. A 0.8 module pinion gear must be used with a 0.8 module spur gear; using mismatched modules will result in poor engagement, noise, and potential damage. The precision manufacturing of this ARRMA gear ensures perfect meshing and smooth, efficient power transfer when used with compatible spur gears.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear, and how often should I do it? — Pinion gears wear over time, especially with regular use in racing or bashing. You might notice increased noise, vibration, or slightly reduced acceleration if your gear is heavily worn. Additionally, if you want to adjust your vehicle's gearing ratio for different track conditions or driving styles, you might choose a different tooth count. Keeping a spare pinion gear in your RC tool box is sensible practice, and this ARRMA 32T is an excellent choice to have on hand for quick replacements or upgrades.
