Overview

The Traxxas Springs, shock (natural finish) (GTS) (0.22 rate, Yellow stripe) (2 pcs) TRX8042 are precision-engineered suspension components designed specifically for Traxxas TRX-4 scale crawlers and trail trucks. Whether you're navigating rocky terrain on a weekend bash or competing in serious RC crawler events across the UK, having the right suspension setup is critical to performance. These shock springs represent Traxxas's commitment to quality engineering, offering tuners and enthusiasts the ability to fine-tune their vehicle's handling characteristics and ride height. As a dedicated RC car UK retailer, we understand that suspension tuning is where serious RC enthusiasts distinguish themselves from casual bashers.

Shock springs are fundamental components in any RC vehicle's suspension system, and the GTS designation indicates these are part of Traxxas's premium tuning range. The 0.22 rate specification determines how stiff these springs are—a crucial factor that directly affects how your TRX-4 responds to terrain changes, obstacles and driving inputs. The natural finish coating protects the steel from corrosion while maintaining the authentic look of precision RC components. The yellow stripe colour coding makes these springs instantly identifiable in your parts box, preventing mix-ups between different spring rates during builds and tuning sessions.

This pair of shock springs is perfect for RC enthusiasts who want to optimise their Traxxas TRX-4 crawler's suspension geometry and responsiveness. Whether you're upgrading from stock springs or experimenting with different spring rates to find your ideal setup, these genuine Traxxas springs ensure consistent performance and reliability on every outing.

Key Features

  • GTS Premium Tuning Grade — The GTS designation indicates these springs are part of Traxxas's recognised tuning lineup, meaning they meet exacting standards for consistency and performance that serious RC crawlers and trail truck drivers depend upon.
  • 0.22 Spring Rate — This specific spring rate provides a carefully calibrated level of stiffness that affects suspension travel, ride height and how the vehicle handles terrain transitions, allowing you to dial in the exact handling characteristic you need.
  • Yellow Stripe Colour Code — Easy visual identification means you'll never mix up different spring rates in your spare parts collection, saving time during setup changes and making it obvious which springs are installed on your truck.
  • Natural Finish Steel Construction — High-quality steel springs with a protective natural finish resist corrosion and maintain their structural integrity through repeated compression cycles, delivering reliable performance season after season.
  • Pair of Two Springs — This package contains two individual shock springs, providing a complete set for one shock absorber, or allowing you to maintain spares for quick roadside replacements at RC events.
  • Genuine Traxxas Component — Manufactured by Traxxas to their original specifications, these springs ensure perfect compatibility and performance with your TRX-4 chassis.

Technical Performance

These shock springs are engineered from premium steel and finished in a natural protective coating that prevents rust while maintaining the authentic appearance of precision RC components. The 0.22 rate specification is a moderate spring rate suitable for a range of driving styles and terrain types, striking a balance between responsiveness and ground clearance that appeals to both recreational trail runners and competitive crawler drivers across the UK. In the context of TRX-4 suspension tuning, spring rate directly influences how quickly the vehicle's suspension compresses and extends over obstacles—a softer spring (lower rate) provides smoother compliance over rough terrain but may sacrifice ride height, whilst a stiffer spring (higher rate) maintains ground clearance and snappier response but may feel harsher on extremely rocky ground. The GTS designation indicates these are manufactured to Traxxas's premium standards for consistency, meaning each spring will perform identically to its pair, ensuring balanced suspension behaviour across all four corners of your crawler. Constructed from high-grade spring steel, these components withstand thousands of compression cycles without permanent deformation, maintaining their specified rate throughout their operational life.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between shock spring rates, and why does 0.22 matter? — Spring rate, measured in pounds per inch (or equivalent metric units), determines how much force is required to compress a spring a given distance. A 0.22 rate spring is relatively soft-to-medium, designed to absorb impacts smoothly whilst maintaining reasonable ride height—it's ideal for mixed terrain and recreational crawling. Lower rates (softer) provide maximum compliance for harsh rocky sections; higher rates (stiffer) maintain height and snappier response for aggressive driving. The 0.22 rate represents Traxxas's popular middle ground that works well for most TRX-4 driving styles.
  • Which TRX-4 models are these springs compatible with? — These GTS shock springs (TRX8042) are designed for the entire Traxxas TRX-4 family, including the Chevrolet K10 Cheyenne (Red, Metallic Blue, Black, and Metallic Copper versions), the Ford F-150 Ranger XLT High Trail Edition (multiple colours), the 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer High Trail Edition, the 1979 Chevy Blazer with Clipless Body, the Nissan Pathfinder SE-V6 3S model, the 2021 Ford Bronco crawler (Red, White, Orange, Black), the Land Rover Defender RTR variants, and the TRX-4 Sport models. If you own any TRX-4 chassis, these springs will fit.
  • How do I know if I need to change my shock springs? — Common reasons to upgrade or change shock spring rates include: your vehicle sitting too high or low for optimal ground clearance and geometry, the suspension feeling too harsh or too soft over obstacles, inconsistent handling between front and rear, or simply wanting to experiment with different tuning setups. Spring rate changes are one of the easiest and most effective ways to tune an RC crawler without requiring special tools or technical knowledge.
  • Are these genuine Traxxas parts? — Yes, the TRX8042 is a genuine Traxxas component manufactured to their exacting specifications. Purchasing authentic Traxxas parts from an authorised retailer ensures perfect compatibility, consistent performance and access to genuine technical support.
  • Do I need any special tools to install these springs? — Shock spring replacement is a straightforward task requiring only basic tools—typically an Allen wrench (hex key) to remove the shock cap, and potentially a spring compressor tool to safely compress the spring during installation, though many users manage without one by carefully supporting the spring.
  • What is the natural finish coating, and does it require maintenance? — The natural finish is a protective layer applied to the steel spring steel to resist corrosion and oxidation. Whilst durable, you may occasionally wipe your springs with a lightly oiled cloth if stored for extended periods to prevent any surface rust, though normal use in typical UK weather rarely requires this level of care.
