Technical Performance
The Traxxas TRX7796 centre drive represents the pinnacle of RC drivetrain engineering, combining torque-biasing differential technology with precision-manufactured components to deliver superior performance in competitive and recreational driving scenarios. The two included 17x26x5mm ball bearings feature precision construction that minimises friction and rotational resistance, critical when operating within a high-performance brushless RC system. Torque-biasing technology works by automatically adjusting the distribution of engine torque between the left and right wheels based on traction conditions, allowing your RC vehicle to maintain optimal grip during aggressive cornering whilst still providing the necessary wheel slip for smooth turning inputs. This results in improved cornering speed, better overall handling characteristics, and enhanced stability compared to open differential designs. The assembled construction ensures that every internal component is perfectly balanced, aligned, and calibrated to exacting Traxxas specifications, eliminating variables that could affect performance and reliability. For drivers piloting 8S LiPo-powered RC monster trucks and sand cars, this centre drive provides the durability and traction control necessary to fully exploit the tremendous power output of modern brushless motors whilst maintaining predictable, controllable handling characteristics in diverse driving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Traxxas torque-biasing centre drive suitable for my RC vehicle? — This centre drive is specifically compatible with Traxxas X-Maxx brushless 4WD monster trucks (all colour variants including red, blue, orange, and green models), Traxxas X-Maxx Ultimate variants, Traxxas X-Monster chassis, and Traxxas Funco Motorsports Pro Scale 8S electric sand cars. Compatibility requires the 7727X bulkheads. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
- What makes torque-biasing technology important for RC performance? — Torque-biasing differentials intelligently distribute engine power between the left and right wheels based on real-time traction conditions, providing significantly superior cornering performance compared to open differentials. This technology allows your brushless RC truck to maintain maximum grip during aggressive turns whilst still providing smooth steering input, directly resulting in faster cornering speeds, better stability, and more predictable handling characteristics across various track and terrain conditions.
- What are the 17x26x5mm ball bearings and why are they included? — The two 17x26x5mm ball bearings are precision-manufactured rolling components that enable smooth, low-friction rotation of the centre drive shaft. These bearings significantly reduce rotational resistance, minimise power losses, extend drivetrain component lifespan, and ensure reliable performance under the extreme forces encountered when running high-power brushless motors in competitive RC driving.
- Is installation difficult and what tools do I need? — The factory-assembled design simplifies installation considerably compared to purchasing individual components and building from scratch. However, installation still requires moderate mechanical skill, basic RC tools (hex wrenches, screwdrivers), and familiarity with your vehicle's drivetrain layout. We recommend consulting your Traxxas manual and considering professional installation if you're unfamiliar with RC drivetrain maintenance.
- How does this centre drive compare to the standard open differential? — The torque-biasing centre drive offers substantially improved traction control and cornering performance compared to open differentials. Whilst open differentials distribute power equally between wheels regardless of traction conditions (resulting in wheel spin and understeer), torque-biasing technology actively adjusts power distribution based on wheel slip, resulting in superior grip during cornering, improved overall handling stability, and faster lap times in competitive environments.
- Will this centre drive work with my 8S LiPo brushless RC truck? — Yes, the Traxxas TRX7796 is specifically engineered to handle the extreme torque and power output of 8S LiPo-powered brushless motors found in modern high-performance RC vehicles like the X-Maxx and Funco Motorsports sand cars. The precision bearings and robust construction ensure reliable performance even under sustained high-power driving conditions.
- What is the difference between this assembled centre drive and individual component kits? — This product arrives fully assembled, tested, and ready to install directly into your vehicle, eliminating the need for complex assembly procedures and component calibration. Individual component kits require significant mechanical skill, precision assembly, bearing installation, and testing before installation, making this assembled option ideal for drivers prioritising convenience and guaranteed factory quality.
