Overview

The AXIAL 55T Electric Motor Z-AX24007 is a specialist 55-turn brushed electric motor designed exclusively for RC rock crawlers and low-speed off-road vehicles. If you're looking to upgrade your RC car UK setup with a motor that prioritises torque and crawling performance over raw speed, this is the ideal choice. The 55T configuration delivers exceptional low-end pull, making it perfect for tackling challenging terrain at slower, more controllable wheel speeds. This motor is a direct replacement or upgrade option for Axial rock crawler models, and it comes pre-fitted with 3mm bullet connectors, eliminating the need for soldering and making installation straightforward for both experienced builders and those new to RC car modifications.

Rock crawling demands a different approach to motor selection than speed-focused RC racing. Where a high-KV brushless RC motor might spin too quickly for precise terrain navigation, the 55T turn count of this Axial motor provides the mechanical advantage and torque needed to inch through rocky obstacles, navigate steep inclines, and maintain traction on unforgiving surfaces. The brushed motor technology in this unit is proven, reliable, and well-suited to the demands of scale rock crawling where finesse and control matter more than outright velocity. Whether you're upgrading an AX10 RTR or building a custom crawler rig, this motor delivers the performance characteristics that serious crawlers expect.

As a trusted UK RC retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine Axial components for the growing community of rock crawler enthusiasts across Britain. The 55T motor is compatible with numerous Axial platforms including the SCX10 II range, Wraith, Yeti, and other crawlers in the Axial lineup, making it a versatile upgrade option for multiple vehicles.

Key Features

  • 55-Turn Brushed Motor Design — The 55-turn configuration is specifically engineered for rock crawlers, providing significantly higher torque and lower speed compared to higher-KV motors, allowing you to navigate obstacles more slowly and deliberately whilst maintaining control and traction.
  • Pre-Installed 3mm Bullet Connectors — This motor arrives with connectors already soldered and fitted, meaning you can install it immediately without requiring soldering skills, flux, or additional tools, saving both time and potential installation errors.
  • Low-End Power and Crawling Performance — The motor excels at delivering consistent pulling power at lower RPMs, making it ideal for scale crawling applications where slow, controlled movement through challenging terrain is the objective rather than high-speed performance.
  • Compact and Lightweight Construction — With an outer diameter of 36mm and a length of just 50.75mm, the motor fits within standard 540-size motor mounts used across Axial crawler platforms, whilst its weight of 164g keeps overall vehicle mass manageable.
  • Compatible with 12V+ Systems — Designed for 4-cell battery packs and higher (12VDC minimum), this motor integrates with standard RC crawler battery configurations, making it straightforward to power on existing setups.
  • Proven Platform Compatibility — The motor is listed as compatible with a wide range of Axial models including the RR10 Bomber, SCX10 II variants, Wraith, Yeti, and other rock crawlers, providing confidence in fitment and performance.

Technical Performance

The AXIAL 55T Electric Motor represents the engineering philosophy behind specialist rock crawler motors. With a 540-size brush motor housing measuring 36mm in diameter and 50.75mm in length, this unit slots into standard crawler motor mounts with ease. The 55-turn brushed configuration is the critical specification here: whilst brushless RC motors often feature higher turn counts (lower torque) or lower turn counts (higher speed), the 55T brushed motor strikes a deliberate balance optimised for crawling duty. The 3.2mm shaft diameter and 12.5mm shaft length ensure compatibility with standard crawler pinion gears and motor mounts. Operating at 12VDC (4 cells) or higher, the motor draws power efficiently whilst delivering the sustained torque that crawlers need when navigating rock gardens, logs, and steep inclines. The brushed design, whilst requiring occasional maintenance compared to brushless alternatives, is proven in crawler applications and offers excellent value. The motor's 164g weight is light enough to keep vehicle inertia manageable, crucial when precision climbing and obstacle navigation are priorities. The pre-installed 3mm bullet connectors use industry-standard connections, allowing integration with most ready-to-run RC crawler batteries and ESCs without modification. The 115mm lead length provides adequate reach for installation into most Axial chassis configurations without requiring extension harnesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this 55T motor suitable for my Axial rock crawler? — Yes, this motor is listed as compatible with numerous Axial platforms including the AX10 RTR, RR10 Bomber, SCX10 II range (including the '69 Chevrolet Blazer, 1955 Ford F-100, 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Deadbolt, Jeep Cherokee, Trail Honcho, and UMG10 builder kits), SMT10 Grave Digger Monster Jam truck, Wraith, Wraith Spawn, and Yeti models. Check your specific vehicle model in the compatibility list or contact us to confirm fitment.
  • What battery does the 55T motor require? — The motor requires a minimum of 4 cells (12VDC) and can operate on higher voltage packs. Most Axial crawler RTR vehicles use standard 2S or 3S LiPo batteries; you'll need a battery system that delivers at least 12V. Always check your ESC's voltage compatibility to ensure safe operation.
  • Do I need to solder this motor to my vehicle? — No. The AXIAL 55T Electric Motor comes with pre-installed 3mm bullet connectors on the motor leads, meaning you simply plug the connectors into your ESC's motor outputs. This is one of the key advantages, as it eliminates soldering and makes installation quick and error-free.
  • What makes a 55T motor different from other motors? — The 55-turn count is crucial. A higher turn count (more windings) in a brushed motor creates higher torque and lower RPM output, perfect for crawling. By contrast, a lower turn count motor (like a 20T or 27T) delivers higher speed but less crawling torque. The 55T is specifically designed for rock crawlers where slow, controlled power matters more than top speed.
  • Is this motor suitable for beginners? — Yes. If you're new to RC crawling, this motor is an excellent choice because it emphasises control and low-speed performance, making vehicles easier to handle on obstacles. The pre-fitted connectors mean installation is beginner-friendly, requiring no soldering expertise.
  • Can I upgrade from a different motor to this 55T? — Absolutely. If your crawler currently has a different motor and you want more crawling torque and lower speed, this 55T is an ideal upgrade option. As long as your ESC supports brushed motors and your chassis has standard 540-size motor mounts (which all listed Axial platforms do), the upgrade is straightforward.
