Overview
The ARRMA 21T Mod1 Safe-D5 Pinion Gear (Z-ARA310968) is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and performance from their brushless RC cars. This precision-engineered steel pinion gear is designed to deliver consistent power transfer from your motor to the drivetrain, making it an indispensable part to carry in your RC tool box. Whether you're maintaining an existing ARRMA vehicle or upgrading your RC car setup, this 21-tooth pinion gear offers the durability and precision needed to keep your brushless RC truck or buggy running at peak performance.
Built with tough, durable steel construction, this pinion gear is manufactured to withstand the extreme conditions that RC bashers and competitive racers put their vehicles through. The 21T configuration provides a balanced gear ratio suitable for a range of ARRMA models, including the Felony 6S BLX, Outcast 4X4 8S BLX, TALION 6S, and Typhon 6S V5 BLX. For anyone serious about maintaining their brushless RC vehicle or looking to fine-tune their gearing setup, this component represents outstanding value and peace of mind.
The Safe-D5 design is a game-changer for RC car reliability. The unique 'D' shaped hole matches your motor shaft profile precisely, which means drive and brakes are not lost even if the set-screw backs out during intense driving sessions. This innovative safety feature eliminates one of the most common failures in RC vehicles, making it a must-have upgrade for any dedicated RC enthusiast in the UK.
Key Features
- Strong and durable steel construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from premium steel that delivers long-lasting performance in extreme RC conditions, whether you're bashing on rocky terrain or competing on the track.
- Precision manufactured wide tooth profile — The carefully engineered tooth geometry ensures smooth operation and consistent power delivery, reducing wear on both the pinion and spur gear for extended component lifespan.
- Safe-D shaped hole design — The 'D' shaped bore matches your 5mm motor shaft profile perfectly, preventing drive loss and brake failure if the set-screw accidentally backs out during aggressive driving.
- Compatible with 5mm motor shaft diameter — This pinion gear is designed specifically for ARRMA's standard 5mm motor shaft, ensuring perfect fitment and alignment with your brushless motor.
- Precision manufactured threaded set-screw hole — The accurately machined M4 x 4mm set-screw hole provides secure, repeatable fastening that holds firm under the demands of high-performance RC driving.
- E-clip supplied for motor shaft retention — The included 3.2mm E-clip provides additional security and prevents the pinion gear from sliding along the motor shaft, adding another layer of reliability to your setup.
Technical Performance
This 21T Mod1 pinion gear is engineered to deliver exceptional performance across a wide range of ARRMA brushless RC vehicles. The Mod1 gear pitch is the industry standard for modern RC cars, ensuring compatibility with matched spur gears and delivering smooth, efficient power transfer from your brushless motor to the drivetrain. With 21 teeth, this pinion provides a moderate gear ratio that balances top speed and acceleration, making it suitable for diverse driving styles and track conditions. The wide tooth profile design is a hallmark of precision RC engineering, distributing loads more evenly across the gear teeth and reducing stress concentrations that lead to premature failure. The steel construction provides superior durability compared to lighter alloy alternatives, making this the preferred choice for serious RC competitors and weekend bashers who demand reliability. The Safe-D5 bore design represents a significant engineering advancement — the D-shaped profile eliminates the risk of the gear slipping on the motor shaft if your set-screw loosens, a common problem that can leave you stranded mid-race or bash session. Every component has been manufactured to exacting tolerances to ensure perfect fitment and operation with your ARRMA vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Safe-D5 bore and why does it matter for my RC car? — The Safe-D5 bore features a 'D' shaped hole that matches your motor shaft profile. This design prevents drive and brake loss if the set-screw backs out during driving, which is a critical safety feature that keeps your brushless RC vehicle running reliably even under extreme conditions.
- Is this pinion gear compatible with my ARRMA RC model? — This 21T Mod1 Safe-D5 pinion gear is compatible with several ARRMA models including the Felony 6S BLX (both orange and black variants), Outcast 4X4 8S BLX EXB, TALION 6S EXB 4X4, and Typhon 6S V5 BLX. Check your specific model to confirm compatibility before ordering.
- What does Mod1 mean in RC gears and why is it important? — Mod1 refers to the gear pitch or module size, which is the industry standard for modern RC cars. This ensures your pinion gear will mesh perfectly with your spur gear and deliver smooth, efficient power delivery with minimal wear.
- Do I need to replace my pinion gear regularly? — Pinion gears are high-wear components in RC vehicles, especially if you drive frequently or competitively. Carrying a spare in your RC tool box is recommended so you can continue driving if yours becomes damaged or worn.
- What is the tooth count and how does it affect my RC car's performance? — The 21-tooth configuration provides a moderate gear ratio that balances acceleration and top speed, making it suitable for diverse driving styles and various track conditions on your brushless RC vehicle.
- What motor shaft diameter does this gear require? — This pinion gear is designed for a 5mm motor shaft diameter, which is the standard size used on most modern ARRMA brushless motors and compatible setups.
