Technical Performance
The Skywalker 2312SL 1400KV motor represents a sophisticated approach to fixed-wing RC aircraft propulsion. With a 1400KV rating, 1.8A no-load current at 14.8V and an internal resistance of just 39.9 milliohms, this brushless outrunner is engineered for smooth, efficient power delivery. The motor's 12-slot, 14-pole stator configuration (12N14P) provides excellent torque characteristics across the RPM range. The 28.8mm diameter and 46mm length make it compact enough for most fixed-wing designs whilst the 4mm shaft diameter accommodates standard RC aircraft propeller adapters. Weighing only 65 grams, the motor adds minimal mass to your airframe. The motor is rated for 3-4S LiPo battery systems, delivering maximum continuous current of 37 amps for 65 seconds and producing 550 watts of continuous power during that interval. The phase cable extends 100mm, providing flexibility in installation and routing through your fuselage or wing pod. For optimum performance with 3S batteries, Hobbywing recommends 7x6E or 8x6E propellers; on 4S systems, use 7x5E or 8x4E props. The motor mounting utilises M2.5 threads in a three-point clip pattern (D12mm) and includes M3 mounting options for 16mm and 19mm base diameters, providing flexibility in airframe integration. When paired with the recommended Skywalker V2 30A-40A ESC, this motor delivers the reliable, responsive power that serious RC aircraft pilots require.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What makes the Skywalker 2312SL 1400KV better than other RC aircraft motors? — This motor delivers approximately 10% more output power than comparable motors with identical specifications, thanks to its advanced engineering, premium materials and optimised design. The special propeller attachment system also ensures higher torque transmission than standard alternatives, making it genuinely superior rather than merely equivalent.
- Is the Skywalker 2312SL suitable for beginners flying RC planes? — Yes, this motor is suitable for intermediate to advanced RC aircraft pilots. Beginners should ensure they have some experience with brushless motor systems and proper ESC programming before operating this motor. The 1400KV variant offers a good balance of power and control, making it more forgiving than higher KV ratings.
- What battery does this Hobbywing motor require? — The Skywalker 2312SL is rated for 3-4S LiPo battery systems, with a recommended voltage of 14.8V (4S fully charged). The motor draws up to 37 amps at maximum continuous current, so your battery must be rated for at least this current output. A quality 3S or 4S LiPo with a minimum 40-50C discharge rating is recommended.
- Can I use the Skywalker 2312SL on a 2S battery? — No, the manufacturer explicitly rates this motor for 3-4S LiPo systems only. Operating on 2S would deliver insufficient power and performance that falls far below the motor's design specifications. Always follow the recommended battery voltage range.
- What ESC should I pair with the Skywalker 2312SL 1400KV? — Hobbywing specifically recommends the Skywalker V2 30A-40A ESC for this motor, as it is specifically designed to work with the Skywalker motor series. The ESC's 30-40A continuous current rating matches the motor's 37A maximum continuous requirement perfectly, ensuring optimal compatibility and performance.
- What propellers work best with this 1400KV motor? — For 3S LiPo operation, Hobbywing recommends 7x6E or 8x6E propellers. For 4S LiPo operation, use 7x5E or 8x4E propellers. These recommendations are based on extensive testing and ensure the motor operates within its optimal performance window whilst maintaining safe current draw.
- How much does the Skywalker 2312SL 1400KV weigh? — The motor weighs only 65 grams, making it lightweight enough for most fixed-wing aircraft applications. This minimal weight helps keep your airframe's overall mass down, which is crucial for efficient flight performance and battery endurance.
- What is the difference between 1400KV and other KV ratings in the Skywalker range? — The KV (Kilo Volt) rating determines how fast the motor spins per volt of input. The 1400KV variant spins at 1400 RPM per volt, positioning it as a mid-range option. Lower KV ratings (like 980KV) spin slower but produce more torque and handle larger propellers; higher KV ratings (like 2450KV) spin faster with less torque, suitable for smaller, lighter aircraft. The 1400KV offers excellent balance between speed and torque for general-purpose fixed-wing applications.
- How do I maintain the Skywalker 2312SL to ensure long lifespan? — Keep the motor clean and free from debris, ensure proper cooling during flights, and avoid pushing the motor beyond its rated specifications (37A continuous current for 65 seconds). Use quality LiPo batteries, maintain proper ESC programming, and inspect the propeller mounting regularly to ensure nothing is loose or damaged.
- Is this motor suitable for aerobatic flying? — Yes, the Skywalker 2312SL is designed for fixed-wing aircraft and can absolutely be used in aerobatic applications. The responsive 1400KV characteristic, combined with its excellent power output and smooth torque delivery, makes it well-suited to dynamic flying styles. Ensure your airframe is structurally sound and properly balanced.
- What shaft diameter does the Skywalker 2312SL have? — The motor features a 4mm shaft diameter, which is the standard size for RC aircraft motors. This shaft size accommodates common RC propeller adapters and spinner systems, ensuring compatibility with most fixed-wing setups.
