Key Features
- 6S LiPo Compatibility — This controller accepts 3-6S LiPo batteries, offering significantly greater voltage range than the standard 50A model, which means you can power larger motors and achieve higher performance levels from your RC aircraft without needing to upgrade your ESC.
- 50A Continuous / 70A Peak Current Rating — With a robust continuous current rating of 50 amps and peak capability reaching 70 amps for up to 10 seconds, this brushless speed controller can handle demanding high-performance brushless motors whilst maintaining thermal stability throughout your flight sessions.
- 32-Bit ARM M0 Processor at 96MHz — The advanced microprocessor running at up to 96MHz provides lightning-fast response times and supports maximum motor speeds up to 300,000 RPM with 2-pole motors, ensuring your RC aircraft responds instantly to every control input.
- DEO Technology (Driving Efficiency Optimization) — This proprietary Hobbywing technology dramatically improves throttle response smoothness, enhances flight stability and flexibility, optimises driving efficiency for extended flight times, and critically reduces ESC temperature during operation to ensure long-term reliability.
- Programmable Braking Modes — Choose from Reverse Brake, Linear Reverse Brake, Normal Brake, or Brake Disabled modes to customise how your RC aircraft behaves during landing, effectively shortening landing distances and simulating the behaviour of real aircraft (Hobbywing's registered patented technology).
- Search Mode Function — Integrated search mode pulses your motor to create a beeping signal that helps locate your aircraft if it falls into visually obstructed areas, whilst also providing an automatic battery disconnect prompt to prevent power loss and battery damage during extended storage.
- Switch Mode 6A / 5V BEC — The integrated Battery Elimination Circuit provides clean, regulated 5-volt power at up to 6 amps to your receiver and servos, eliminating the need for separate battery packs and simplifying your RC aircraft's electrical architecture.
- Multi-Level Protection System — Comprehensive protection against abnormal input voltage, low voltage cutoff (preventing LiPo damage), ESC thermal overload, and throttle signal loss (failsafe) ensures your brushless ESC and aircraft remain safe under all operating conditions.
- Flexible Programming Options — Easily customise settings including brake type and force, cut-off voltage, LiPo cell configuration, start-up behaviour, search mode parameters, timing and active freewheeling using either the dedicated LED Program Box (sold separately) or your RC transmitter.
- Premium Quality Connectors — 3.5mm gold-plated connectors on the motor outputs and XT90-S or equivalent on the battery input ensure minimal resistance, maximum current flow and years of reliable connection without corrosion.
Technical Performance
The Hobbywing Skywalker 50A 6S V2 represents a significant leap forward in brushless ESC technology for RC aircraft. This speed controller is engineered with a high-performance 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 processor operating at up to 96MHz, enabling it to monitor and control brushless motor operation with exceptional precision and speed. The controller's ability to handle continuous currents of 50 amps with peak loads reaching 70 amps for 10-second bursts makes it suitable for a wide range of electric RC aircraft, from moderate-sized sport flyers to serious high-performance aerobatic models. The inclusion of switch-mode BEC technology delivering 6 amps at 5 volts ensures your radio receiver and servos receive clean, stable power regardless of load fluctuations. The compact dimensions of 73 x 30 x 12mm and modest weight of just 68 grams mean this ESC can be fitted into virtually any modern RC aircraft design without taking up excessive space or adding unnecessary weight that would compromise flight performance. The input wiring consists of 14AWG gauge cables measuring 100mm in length, providing excellent power delivery from your LiPo battery pack with minimal voltage drop, whilst the three 14AWG output wires of the same 100mm length connect securely to your brushless motor. The DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) technology works at the firmware level to maximise energy transfer efficiency, resulting in cooler operating temperatures even during extended high-throttle flight sessions, which directly translates to longer flight times and enhanced reliability. Build quality throughout is exceptional, with gold-plated connectors on all motor connections, robust PCB construction and conformal coating for weather resistance, making this a genuinely professional-grade speed controller suitable for serious RC aviation applications across the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the main difference between the 50A 6S V2 and the standard 50A V2? — The 50A 6S V2 is specifically designed to accept 3-6S LiPo batteries with a 50A continuous / 70A peak current rating, whilst the standard 50A V2 is limited to 3-4S batteries. Additionally, the 6S version features upgraded motor output wiring (three 14AWG 100mm cables) compared to the standard version's 16AWG cables, enabling it to handle higher voltages and currents more effectively.
- Is the Hobbywing Skywalker 50A 6S V2 suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst this is a professional-grade speed controller with advanced features, it is specifically designed to be beginner-friendly. The Skywalker series is renowned for being ideal for RTF (ready-to-fly) RC aircraft models and those just starting their RC aviation journey. All critical safety features are enabled by default, and programming is straightforward using either the included transmitter-based programming or an optional LED Program Box. The comprehensive protection systems mean beginners can fly with confidence.
- What battery voltage and capacity does this ESC require? — The Hobbywing Skywalker 50A 6S V2 accepts LiPo batteries ranging from 3S (11.1V nominal) to 6S (22.2V nominal). For a typical RC aircraft using a 50A ESC, battery capacity should be chosen based on desired flight time and motor power draw, typically ranging from 2200mAh to 5000mAh. A 4S 4000mAh LiPo is an excellent starting point for most applications. Always ensure your battery's continuous discharge rating exceeds the ESC's continuous current requirement.
- Can I programme this ESC myself without special equipment? — Yes, the Skywalker 50A 6S V2 supports programming via your RC transmitter, making it incredibly convenient for users who don't yet own a Program Box. All essential settings can be adjusted through your transmitter's programming menu including brake mode, throttle range and cut-off voltage. For more advanced customisation, the optional Hobbywing LED Program Box (model HW30501003) provides a dedicated interface with visual feedback.
- What motor types are compatible with this ESC? — This brushless speed controller is compatible with standard 3-phase brushless motors commonly used in RC aircraft, including both outrunner and inrunner motor types. The 50A rating makes it suitable for motors ranging from approximately 250KV to 1500KV depending on your 6S LiPo configuration and desired performance profile. Consult your motor's specifications to ensure compatibility.
- Does this include a BEC and why do I need one? — Yes, this ESC includes an integrated 5-volt, 6-amp switch-mode BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit). This component converts your high-voltage battery power down to the 5 volts required by your RC receiver and servo motors, eliminating the need for a separate battery pack to power your control systems. This simplification reduces weight, complexity and cost whilst improving reliability.
- What are the physical dimensions and will it fit my aircraft? — The Skywalker 50A 6S V2 measures just 73mm long by 30mm wide by 12mm thick, weighing only 68 grams. This exceptionally compact size allows it to fit into most modern electric RC aircraft designs. However, always verify clearance in your specific airframe before installation, particularly around the heat-sink fins which require good airflow for cooling during extended flights.
- How do I ensure optimal performance and longevity? — Ensure the ESC receives adequate cooling airflow during flight by installing it in a location with good ventilation. Program appropriate low-voltage cutoff settings to prevent over-discharging your LiPo battery. Regularly inspect connector condition and ensure all solder joints are secure. Keep the firmware updated using the optional WiFi module or dedicated programmer if new features become available. Always allow the ESC to cool between consecutive flights.
