- Reverse Brake and Linear Reverse Brake Modes — These exclusive patented modes allow you to simulate the authentic feel of landing a real aircraft by applying variable braking forces during the descent phase, making touchdown more controlled and realistic; Normal Brake Mode and Brake Disabled mode are also available, with adjustable brake force in normal brake mode to suit your flying style.
- Built-In Search Mode — If you ever lose sight of your RC plane, the integrated search mode generates distinct motor signals that help you locate your aircraft; this feature also automatically prompts disconnection of the battery after a set period of inactivity, preventing your LiPo battery from draining completely and suffering permanent damage.
- Programmable Parameters — Customise every aspect of the controller's behaviour to match your specific aircraft and flying preferences using either a Hobbywing LED Program Box or your transmitter, with settings including brake type, brake force, cut-off voltage, LiPo cell count, start-up procedure, timing and active freewheeling.
- Multiple Protection Systems — Comprehensive safeguards monitor abnormal input voltage, throttle signal loss, excessive temperature, and low battery voltage, automatically protecting your ESC, motor and battery from damage and extending the service life of all your equipment.
- Compatible with Various Brushless Motors — The SkyWalker 30A V2 works seamlessly with a wide range of brushless outrunner and inrunner motors commonly used in RC aircraft, giving you flexibility in your build configuration.
- Active Freewheeling — When the throttle is at zero, active freewheeling allows the motor to turn freely without drag from the ESC, improving glide characteristics and reducing power consumption during coasting phases of flight.
Technical Performance
The Hobbywing SkyWalker 30A V2 is engineered with meticulous attention to detail, combining robust construction with cutting-edge digital processing. At the heart of this brushless speed controller sits a high-performance 32-bit ARM M0 processor running at 96MHz, delivering computational power that ensures instantaneous response to throttle inputs from your transmitter. The controller boasts a continuous current rating of 30A with peak current capability of 50A for up to 10 seconds, making it suitable for a broad spectrum of brushless motor sizes and power levels commonly found in UK RC aircraft applications. The input voltage range of 3-4S LiPo battery compatibility covers the vast majority of recreational and competitive RC aeroplane builds, from modest 3-cell setups in lightweight trainers through to more powerful 4-cell configurations in faster sport aeroplanes. The integrated BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) outputs 3A at 5V in linear mode, providing sufficient power to run standard RC servos and receivers without requiring a separate battery. Measuring just 60x25x8mm and weighing a mere 33 grams, the compact form factor allows for clean installation in confined fuselage spaces, whilst the low weight means minimal impact on your aircraft's centre of gravity and flying characteristics. The robust design ensures reliable operation in the field, whether you're flying in calm conditions or tackling challenging wind, and the multiple protection functions work silently in the background to safeguard your investment and extend the operational life of your equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Hobbywing SkyWalker 30A V2 suitable for RC aircraft beginners? — Yes, absolutely. The SkyWalker series was specifically designed with newcomers to RC fixed-wing flying in mind. The straightforward programming options work via your transmitter, the multiple protection systems safeguard your equipment even if something goes wrong, and the reliable performance builds confidence in new pilots. Whether you're building your first custom RC plane or installing this controller into an RTF kit, the SkyWalker 30A V2 delivers the stability and predictability beginners need to learn safely and progress quickly.
- What battery does the SkyWalker 30A V2 need? — This controller is compatible with 3-4S LiPo batteries, which are the standard power source for modern RC aircraft. A 3S LiPo (11.1V nominal) works perfectly well for many applications, whilst 4S LiPo (14.8V nominal) provides additional power for larger or faster aircraft. The 30A continuous current rating means you should select a battery with appropriate discharge rating; for this controller, a battery with 30C discharge rating or higher is recommended. Always ensure your battery connector matches the ESC input connector on your controller.
- What is DEO Technology and why should I care about it? — DEO stands for Driving Efficiency Optimization, and it's Hobbywing's patented technology that optimises how power flows from your battery through the controller to your motor. The practical benefit is that you get faster, smoother throttle response, better stability during flight, improved efficiency that translates to longer flight times per charge, and lower operating temperature in the ESC itself. This means your controller runs cooler, lasts longer, and your aircraft flies more predictably and responsively.
- Can I use the SkyWalker 30A V2 in other types of RC vehicles? — Whilst this controller is optimised for fixed-wing RC aircraft, technically it could function in other applications. However, Hobbywing specifically engineered it for aeroplanes with features like search mode and brake simulation that are most useful in aircraft. For other RC vehicle types like cars, trucks, buggies or boats, Hobbywing offers alternative controller lines better suited to those platforms.
- What makes the Reverse Brake mode special? — The Reverse Brake and Linear Reverse Brake modes are exclusive features that simulate how real aircraft slow down during landing. Rather than just cutting throttle, these modes apply variable braking forces that give you more control during the critical landing phase, making touchdown smoother and more realistic. This is particularly valuable for pilots learning proper landing technique, and it reduces wear on your undercarriage by ensuring consistent, controlled descents.
- How do I programme the SkyWalker 30A V2? — Programming is straightforward and flexible. You can programme the controller directly through your RC transmitter, adjusting settings like brake type, brake force, cut-off voltage, number of LiPo cells, start-up procedure, timing and active freewheeling. Alternatively, you can use a Hobbywing LED Program Box (sold separately) for even more advanced configuration options. The choice is yours depending on how deep you want to dive into tuning.
- What protection does this ESC provide? — The SkyWalker 30A V2 includes multiple layers of protection: abnormal input voltage detection prevents damage from incorrect battery connections, thermal protection shuts down the controller if it overheats, throttle signal loss protection cuts throttle if your receiver loses signal, and low voltage cutoff prevents over-discharging your LiPo battery. These systems work automatically and help ensure safe operation and extend the lifespan of all your equipment.
