This 6S-capable ESC represents the pinnacle of Hobbywing's aircraft ESC technology, delivering exceptional motor governing speed through a powerful 32-bit processor running at 72MHz. Whether you're flying fixed-wing aircraft, electric planes, or other RC models requiring brushless motor control, the Platinum 25A V4 offers the kind of sophisticated features previously found only in premium competition-grade equipment, now available to UK hobbyists and serious pilots alike.

Built with pilots in mind, this brushless speed controller combines intelligent engineering with practical functionality. The Platinum 25A V4 is not simply a power management device—it's a sophisticated flight computer that continuously optimises motor performance, protects your valuable RC aircraft components, and provides detailed flight telemetry data. UK RC enthusiasts will appreciate how this ESC scales perfectly for mid-range electric aircraft, from trainer models through to acrobatic fliers, making it an excellent choice whether you're just discovering brushless RC aircraft or you're an experienced competitive pilot seeking upgrade components.

The compact 47x22x10mm form factor weighs just 27 grams, making installation straightforward in virtually any aircraft design without compromising weight distribution or performance. Its combination of advanced algorithms, multiple safety protections, and flexible programming options establishes the Platinum 25A V4 as a trusted solution in the UK RC aircraft community.

Key Features

  • High-Performance 32-Bit Processor at 72MHz — The ESC is powered by a 32-bit processor running at 72MHz frequency, which processes throttle input and motor feedback millions of times per second, enabling exceptionally smooth and precise speed governing that makes flight control responsive and predictable.
  • Advanced Governor Algorithm with Adjustable Parameters — The Platinum 25A V4 implements sophisticated motor governing algorithms that can be fine-tuned through adjustable governor parameters, allowing pilots to dial in exactly the speed controller behaviour their aircraft requires for stable, consistent flight characteristics.
  • DEO Technology (Driving Efficiency Optimization) — This Hobbywing-proprietary Active Freewheeling technology delivers three significant benefits: quicker throttle response means your aircraft responds immediately to control inputs, higher driving efficiency translates directly to extended flight time between charges, and lower operating temperatures ensure the ESC runs cooler and more reliably during extended flights.
  • Built-In Switch Mode BEC with Dual Voltage Output — The integrated Battery Elimination Circuit generates two selectable voltage outputs (6V or 7.4V) with a continuous current capacity of 3 amperes and peak current capability of 7 amperes, providing ample servo power for multi-servo aircraft without requiring a separate battery or power supply.
  • Reverse Brake Mode with Multiple Brake Settings — Enabling Reverse Brake mode effectively shortens the landing distance of fixed-wing aircraft by simulating realistic aerodynamic braking, and pilots can choose between Normal Brake Mode (with adjustable brake force), Proportional Brake Mode (where brake force automatically scales with throttle stick position), or Brake Disabled mode for maximum simplicity.
  • Comprehensive Multi-Layer Protection System — The ESC protects itself and your aircraft through ESC thermal protection, capacitor thermal protection (a Hobbywing-patented technology), overload protection, throttle signal loss detection with fail-safe, and low voltage cutoff, all working together to extend component lifespan and prevent catastrophic failure during flight.
  • Advanced Flight Data Logging and Retrieval — The dedicated programming port allows pilots to review detailed flight data including minimum voltage encountered, maximum ESC temperature reached, standardised RPM readings, and speed curve information (when operating in Heli Governing Store mode), enabling data-driven optimisation of flight parameters.
  • Multi-Platform Programming Flexibility — Configure the Platinum 25A V4 using an LCD Program Box for hands-on parameter adjustment, a Wi-Fi Module paired with Apple or Android phone apps for wireless configuration, or OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware updates to ensure your ESC benefits from the latest performance improvements and bug fixes.
  • 3.5mm Gold Connectors for Reliable Power Transfer — The female 3.5mm gold connectors provide secure, low-resistance connections that minimise power loss and ensure stable current delivery to your brushless motor, critical for achieving the claimed 25A continuous and 40A peak current ratings.

Technical Performance

The Hobbywing Platinum 25A V4 represents a significant engineering achievement in compact aircraft ESC design. With a rated continuous current of 25 amperes and peak current handling of 40 amperes, this controller confidently manages brushless motors ranging from modest trainer aircraft through to high-performance acrobatic aeroplanes. The ESC accepts 3S through 6S LiPo battery packs, providing compatibility with virtually all modern electric aircraft power systems used by UK RC flyers—whether you're flying 3S sport models at modest speeds or pushing 6S high-performance aircraft to their limits. The switch-mode BEC eliminates the heat generation associated with linear regulators, delivering regulated 6V or 7.4V power at up to 3 amps continuously with 7-amp peak capacity, more than sufficient for standard servo requirements in aircraft with multiple control surfaces. The ESC's 16AWG (American Wire Gauge) input wires, colour-coded red and black at 100mm length, interface directly with your battery pack, while three separate 18AWG output wires in black connect to your brushless motor's three-phase lead assembly. At just 27 grams and measuring 47mm long by 22mm wide by 10mm tall, the Platinum 25A V4 fits unobtrusively into aircraft fuselages without compromising weight distribution or aerodynamic balance. The advanced 72MHz processor and DEO efficiency optimisation technology ensure that the ESC operates cooler than competing models, extending component lifespan and maintaining consistent performance even during extended flying sessions. This combination of power handling capability, sophisticated software algorithms, compact dimensions, and thermal management makes the Platinum 25A V4 an exceptional choice for UK RC aircraft pilots who refuse to compromise on flight performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a brushless ESC and why do I need one for my RC aircraft? — A brushless electronic speed controller (ESC) is the critical interface between your aircraft's flight battery and brushless motor. The ESC rapidly switches power to the motor's three phases thousands of times per second, controlling motor speed based on your throttle input from the transmitter. Brushless motors are vastly more efficient, longer-lasting, and powerful than brushed alternatives, and require a dedicated brushless ESC to operate—the Platinum 25A V4 provides this function with exceptional sophistication through its advanced governor algorithms.
  • Is the Hobbywing Platinum 25A V4 suitable for beginners learning to fly RC aircraft? — Yes, absolutely. While the Platinum 25A V4 includes advanced features like adjustable governor parameters and data logging, these features are optional to use. Beginners can operate the ESC in straightforward modes without touching advanced settings, and the comprehensive safety protections (low voltage cutoff, thermal protection, throttle signal loss detection) actually make it safer and more beginner-friendly than basic controllers. UK RC clubs often recommend Hobbywing products for student pilots because the reliability and consistent performance builds confidence during the learning curve.
  • What battery does the Platinum 25A V4 need? — This ESC accepts lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries from 3S through 6S configuration. A 3S LiPo pack (11.1 volts nominal) is the minimum requirement, whilst a 6S LiPo pack (22.2 volts nominal) is the maximum. The Platinum 25A V4 includes a low voltage cutoff protection feature that automatically reduces throttle when battery voltage drops below safe levels, protecting your expensive LiPo battery from dangerous deep discharge that degrades cells.
  • Can I use this ESC with my existing aircraft and transmitter? — The Platinum 25A V4 is compatible with all standard RC aircraft transmitters using conventional PWM signal outputs—this includes Futaba, Spektrum, Hitec, Jumper and virtually all other brands. The ESC connects to your receiver's throttle channel via the signal lead, making it a drop-in replacement for existing ESCs. However, advanced features like Wi-Fi programming and data logging require a Hobbywing LCD Program Box or Wi-Fi Module with compatible smartphone app (sold separately).
  • What makes the Platinum 25A V4 different from other brushless ESCs? — The Platinum 25A V4 combines three key differentiators: the DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) technology provides quicker throttle response and longer flight time, the sophisticated 72MHz processor with advanced algorithms delivers exceptional governor smoothness unavailable on budget models, and the comprehensive data logging and wireless programming capabilities enable optimisation impossible with ESCs lacking these features. For UK RC aircraft pilots seeking maximum reliability and performance, the Platinum 25A V4 justifies its position in the premium ESC category.
  • How do I programme the Platinum 25A V4? — You have three options: use a Hobbywing Multifunction LCD Program Box (sold separately) for comprehensive parameter adjustment and data review, connect a Wi-Fi Module (sold separately) to use Hobbywing's Apple or Android smartphone apps for wireless configuration, or use OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware updates to automatically push the latest software improvements to your ESC. All programming connects through the ESC's dedicated programming port using individual programming lines.
