Overview

The Team Associated Silicone Diff Fluid 400,000 cSt with Open Cap (AS5464) is a premium-grade differential oil designed for precision RC car setup and consistent performance across all driving conditions. Whether you're an experienced RC racer fine-tuning your vehicle for competition or an enthusiast exploring the world of RC cars in the UK, this high-viscosity silicone fluid plays a crucial role in controlling differential lock-up and delivering predictable handling characteristics. Team Associated's Factory Team has expanded their differential fluid range to offer unprecedented granularity in viscosity selection, and the 400,000 cSt grade represents one of the thickest options available, perfectly suited for racers who demand maximum control and traction.

Differential fluid is one of the most underrated yet critical consumables in RC car maintenance and setup. The viscosity grade you choose directly influences how your vehicle's differential behaves during acceleration, cornering and braking. A thicker fluid like this 400,000 cSt option creates a more locked differential feel, limiting the speed difference between the inside and outside wheels when turning. This delivers improved traction and more predictable drive characteristics, particularly valuable when tackling demanding surfaces or when you need maximum mechanical grip from your RC car. The open cap bottle design ensures straightforward dispensing and refilling, making routine maintenance and setup adjustments quick and hassle-free during pit sessions or trackside adjustments.

As a genuine Team Associated consumable, this silicone diff fluid is manufactured to the same exacting standards you'd expect from Factory Team racing products. It's ideal for refreshing worn differential fluid during regular servicing, or for tailoring your RC car's performance to suit specific surface conditions and your personal driving style. Available in stock at RC Model Shop, this is the perfect choice for anyone serious about RC performance in the UK.

Key Features

  • 400,000 cSt Viscosity Grade — This high-viscosity silicone fluid creates a pronounced locking effect in your differential, providing maximum resistance to speed differentiation between wheels and delivering exceptional traction on demanding surfaces and in competitive racing conditions.
  • Pure Silicone Formulation — Team Associated's factory-grade silicone oil offers consistent performance, thermal stability and predictable behaviour across temperature ranges, ensuring your setup remains reliable whether you're racing indoors or outdoors.
  • Open Cap Bottle Design — The included open cap allows straightforward, controlled dispensing of the fluid, making it simple to add the exact amount needed for differential servicing or to refill during setup adjustments without spillage or waste.
  • Fine-Increment Tuning Range — As part of Team Associated's expanded Factory Team differential fluid line, the 400k cSt grade now sits perfectly positioned between the existing 300k and 500k options, offering racers more granular tuning possibilities that don't overlap production tolerances and allow precise dial-in of differential behaviour.
  • Genuine Factory Team Product — This is an authentic Team Associated consumable manufactured to racing standards, ensuring you're using the same products trusted by competitive racers and professional teams worldwide.

Technical Performance

Differential fluid viscosity is measured in centistokes (cSt), and Team Associated's 400,000 cSt grade represents a seriously thick, high-performance option that delivers substantial differential lock characteristics. At this viscosity level, the fluid provides maximum resistance to differential action, creating a nearly locked feel that minimises speed differentiation between the driven wheels during cornering. This is particularly valuable in competitive racing environments where traction and predictable handling are paramount. The silicone-based formulation ensures excellent thermal stability, meaning the fluid maintains consistent viscosity characteristics even under the heating effects of high-speed racing or extended driving sessions. Unlike conventional mineral oils, pure silicone fluids resist oxidation and maintain their performance properties over extended use, making this an investment in long-term differential reliability. The open cap design is engineered for precision — you can dispense exactly the amount of fluid needed without overshooting, which is crucial when making fine adjustments to your vehicle's differential setup during race preparation. This product integrates perfectly into any RC car maintenance schedule, whether you're servicing a worn differential or experimenting with different viscosity grades to optimise your vehicle's performance characteristics on specific track conditions or surface types.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does 400,000 cSt mean and how does it affect my RC car's performance? — CSt (centistokes) measures fluid viscosity or thickness. At 400,000 cSt, this is one of the thickest differential fluids available, creating a highly locked differential feel. This means your RC car's wheels will have minimal speed difference when turning, resulting in improved traction, more predictable handling and better mechanical grip. This viscosity is ideal for competitive racing or when you need maximum control and traction on demanding surfaces.
  • How does the 400,000 cSt grade compare to other viscosity options in Team Associated's range? — Team Associated now offers differential fluids from 8,000 cSt up to 500,000 cSt in carefully chosen increments. The 400,000 cSt grade sits between the 300,000 and 500,000 options, offering finer granularity for tuning. Thicker grades like 400k create more differential lock-up, while thinner grades allow more differential action. Your choice depends on your vehicle setup, driving style and track conditions — thicker fluids favour traction and predictability, whilst thinner fluids allow more wheel speed differentiation during cornering.
  • Is this suitable for beginners or only experienced racers? — While this is a specialised consumable rather than a complete RC car, it's suitable for anyone willing to learn about differential tuning. Beginners should understand that differential fluid viscosity directly impacts handling, so starting with a mid-range viscosity might be wise before experimenting with extreme grades. However, if you own an RC car and want to optimise its performance, learning about differential fluid is an excellent next step in your RC journey.
  • Why should I use pure silicone differential fluid instead of mineral oil? — Pure silicone formulations like Team Associated's Factory Team fluids offer superior thermal stability, better resistance to oxidation and more consistent performance across temperature ranges. Silicone oils maintain their viscosity characteristics reliably, making them the preferred choice for competitive racing where consistency and predictability are critical. They also tend to last longer before requiring replacement.
  • What vehicles is this differential fluid compatible with? — This silicone differential fluid is designed for use in RC cars with adjustable differentials. It's compatible with most Team Associated vehicles and many other RC cars from different manufacturers. Always consult your vehicle's manual to confirm compatibility and recommended viscosity ranges, as different vehicles may have different differential designs that work better with different oil viscosity grades.
  • How often should I change my differential fluid? — Regular differential fluid maintenance depends on your driving frequency and conditions. Most racers refresh differential fluid every few months or whenever they perform a full vehicle service. If you're driving in dusty or sandy conditions, you may need to change it more frequently to prevent contamination. Always inspect your fluid for discolouration or debris as an indicator it's time for a refresh.
