Overview

The Fastrax Masking Tape 12mm x 50m (FAST256-12) is an essential consumable for any serious RC modeller working in the UK who demands professional-quality results when painting RC car bodies and components. Whether you're a dedicated competitor preparing your RC buggy or monster truck for the track, a weekend basher customising your latest purchase, or an experienced body shop specialist, this masking tape delivers the precision and reliability you need for delicate painting operations. Masking tape is one of those overlooked yet absolutely critical tools that separates amateur paint jobs from showroom-quality finishes, and the Fastrax brand has built a strong reputation among RC enthusiasts across the UK for producing reliable products that perform when it matters.

This 12mm wide masking tape comes in a generous 50-metre roll, ensuring you have more than enough material for multiple projects without constantly running out mid-way through a paint job. The tape's carefully engineered adhesive formula is specifically designed to protect areas of your RC model that you do not want painted, whilst being gentle enough not to damage delicate paint or decals underneath. Whether you're masking off window areas on an RC short course truck body, protecting sponsor decals on your competition RC buggy, or creating precise racing stripes on your RC monster truck, this tape gives you the clean lines and professional appearance that distinguishes a quality build from a rushed one.

At RC Model Shop, we understand that your RC hobby deserves quality supporting products, and Fastrax masking tape is the kind of consumable that serious modellers trust to get the job done right, every time. Stock this essential item in your RC workshop today.

Key Features

  • 12mm Wide Format — This 12mm width strikes the perfect balance for masking operations on RC bodies, providing enough coverage to mask larger areas efficiently whilst remaining narrow enough for precise detail work on smaller RC components and intricate paint schemes.
  • 50-Metre Length — The substantial 50-metre roll length means you'll have plenty of tape for multiple painting projects, reducing the need for constant replacement and ensuring you never run short during a critical paint job on your RC model.
  • Gentle Adhesive Formula — The tape's carefully balanced adhesive is strong enough to hold firmly during painting operations, preventing paint bleed-under, but gentle enough to remove cleanly without damaging underlying paint, decals or delicate RC body surfaces.
  • Clean Line Performance — Designed specifically for masking applications, this tape creates sharp, clean edges when removed, resulting in professional-quality paint lines that look factory-finished on your RC car, buggy, truck or crawler body.
  • Reliable Brand Heritage — Fastrax is a recognised brand among RC enthusiasts across the UK, known for manufacturing consumables and accessories that deliver consistent, dependable performance in the hands of demanding modellers.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax Masking Tape 12mm x 50m represents a purpose-engineered consumable for the RC modelling market, where precision and reliability directly impact the finished appearance of your model. The 12mm width has been selected as an industry-standard size that accommodates the vast majority of RC masking applications, from protecting window frames on 1/10 scale RC monster trucks and RC buggies through to isolating sponsor logos and racing stripes on competition vehicles. The 50-metre roll provides substantial coverage—enough to mask an entire RC body multiple times over, or to service an entire workshop's projects before requiring replacement. The tape's adhesive technology represents a critical engineering detail: it must be aggressive enough to seal against paint and prevent bleeding underneath the masked area, yet gentle enough that removal does not strip existing paint, damage factory decals, or lift primer coats from RC bodies. This balance is particularly important when working with delicate pre-painted RC bodies or when masking over existing decal work. The tape performs consistently across temperature ranges typical in UK modelling workshops and storage conditions, making it a reliable choice for year-round RC painting projects whether you're working on a summer outdoor bash session or winter competition preparation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size masking tape should I use for my RC car painting project? — The 12mm width of this Fastrax masking tape is ideal for most RC body painting applications, including window masking on 1/10 scale RC monster trucks, buggy bodies, short course trucks, and crawlers. For very fine detail work, you might consider narrower widths, but 12mm covers the majority of typical RC masking requirements with excellent efficiency.
  • Will this masking tape damage my RC body paint or decals? — No. The Fastrax masking tape has been formulated with a gentle adhesive specifically designed for delicate painting operations. When applied and removed correctly, it will not strip paint, lift primer, or damage pre-existing decals, making it safe for use on both freshly painted surfaces and bodies with existing graphics.
  • How long does a 50-metre roll last? — A 50-metre roll provides substantial coverage depending on your project complexity. For a typical full RC body masking job, you might use 2-5 metres depending on design complexity, meaning one roll could comfortably service multiple RC painting projects. Customer feedback indicates the tape performs well in regular workshop use, though heavy daily usage in a professional shop environment may require more frequent replacement.
  • Is masking tape necessary for quality RC body painting? — Yes, masking tape is essential for achieving professional-quality paint finishes on RC models. It prevents paint bleed-under, creates clean sharp lines between colours, protects windows and graphics from overspray, and allows you to achieve factory-quality results that distinguish a well-finished RC build from a rushed one. It's a small investment that delivers significant improvements in final appearance.
  • What painting techniques work best with this masking tape? — This tape works with all standard RC body painting methods: spray cans, airbrush systems, and HVLP spray equipment. Apply the tape firmly to ensure good contact with the RC body surface, paint over it with your chosen method, and remove the tape once paint has dried but whilst it's still slightly tacky for cleanest results. This approach prevents paint curing completely onto the tape edges.
