For nearly 30 years, MIP tools have been the go-to choice for RC enthusiasts across the UK and worldwide, trusted by World Champions and casual hobbyists alike. Whether you're adjusting your RC car UK setup, performing maintenance on your ready-to-run RC model, or fine-tuning competition vehicles, this precision nut driver is an essential addition to any RC tool kit. The Gen 2 update maintains the legendary MIP heritage while incorporating thoughtful improvements that make this tool more durable, easier to identify, and more reliable than ever before.

This 5.0mm nut driver wrench is engineered for those who demand excellence from their RC tools. The combination of steel construction, black oxide coating, and ergonomic design makes it suitable for both beginners learning basic RC maintenance and experienced competitors who require professional-grade precision. The iconic amber handle with colour-coded ring has become synonymous with quality in the RC hobby, and the Gen 2 iteration builds on this legacy with enhanced durability and clarity. If you're setting up a new RC vehicle, maintaining existing models, or replacing worn tools in your collection, the MIP 5.0mm Nut Driver Wrench delivers the precision and reliability that RC enthusiasts have depended on for three decades.

RC Model Shop is proud to stock the complete range of MIP tools, including this essential 5.0mm nut driver. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying your RC truck or car, a serious competitor preparing for track events, or someone just discovering RC hobbies for the first time, having the right tools makes all the difference. This Gen 2 version represents evolution, not revolution—the core engineering excellence remains unchanged, but every detail has been refined for improved longevity and performance.

Key Features

  • Steel Construction with Black Oxide Coating — The entire tool head is manufactured from premium steel and finished with a black oxide coating instead of the older nickel plating. This upgrade significantly improves protection against oxidation, corrosion, and scratches, ensuring your tool stays looking and performing like new even after years of regular use in the demanding RC environment.
  • Deep Socket Head Design — The deep socket reaches nuts positioned on long screws and in areas that shallow sockets cannot access, which is essential when working with RC vehicles where fastener locations are often recessed or difficult to reach. This design feature prevents stripping and damage to nuts that are in tight or confined spaces.
  • Thin-Wall Tool Head — Unlike standard nut drivers with bulky heads, this tool features thin-wall construction that allows the socket to fit into tight areas and narrow spaces between components on your RC model. This is particularly valuable when working on densely packed RC assemblies where space is limited.
  • Laser-Etched Size Markings — The Gen 2 upgrade includes crisp, laser-etched size markings that are clear and impossible to miss, even after years of use. These permanent markings won't fade, rub off, or wear away like printed labels, providing lasting clarity about the exact size of your tool.
  • Colour-Coded Ring for Instant Identification — Each MIP nut driver features a distinctive colour-coded ring that allows you to instantly identify the correct size from your tool collection without reading markings. This speeds up your work at the bench or track and reduces the risk of using the wrong size tool.
  • Compact Length with Improved Ergonomics — The short overall length of this tool provides superior control and precision during adjustment work, reducing fatigue and increasing your ability to make fine tweaks. The compact design makes it easy to store in tool bags and keeps your workspace organised.
  • Comfortable Polycarbonate Handle — The iconic amber polycarbonate handle is resilient in both hot and cold weather conditions, meaning it won't become brittle in winter or uncomfortably hot in summer use. This material choice ensures your hand stays comfortable during extended work sessions, whether you're at an indoor RC track or outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Hand-Assembled in the USA — Every single MIP Gen 2 nut driver is assembled by hand and manufactured entirely in the USA, ensuring consistent quality control and supporting responsible manufacturing practices. This attention to detail explains why MIP tools command such loyalty among serious RC enthusiasts.
  • Evolution of Legendary Design — The Gen 2 update represents the next chapter in MIP's 30-year legacy of tool excellence. The core construction, precise tolerances, and uncompromising quality that made MIP tools legendary remain unchanged—only enhanced and refined to meet the demands of modern RC competition and hobby use.

Technical Performance

The MIP 5.0mm Nut Driver Wrench Gen 2 is engineered with precision manufacturing standards that reflect three decades of experience in the RC tool industry. The steel construction provides the rigidity necessary for accurate nut removal and installation without flex or compliance, which could otherwise damage fasteners or strip threads. The black oxide coating represents a significant upgrade over previous nickel plating, offering superior corrosion resistance and scratch protection—essential characteristics for a tool that will be used regularly in various weather conditions and environments. The thin-wall socket head design combines durability with functionality; the walls are optimised to provide structural strength whilst remaining thin enough to fit into confined spaces common on RC vehicles where components are closely spaced. The laser-etched markings are applied with industrial precision, creating marks that are readable from multiple angles and will not fade with extended use. The polycarbonate handle material is specifically chosen for its resilience across temperature ranges from cold workshop conditions to hot outdoor track days, ensuring consistent grip and comfort regardless of climate. The overall length has been carefully calculated to provide optimal balance between reach and control, making it suitable for detailed adjustment work on every type of RC model from crawlers to track racers. Whether you're working on your RC car UK setup, adjusting suspension geometry, or performing fastener maintenance on competition vehicles, this tool's precision engineering ensures reliable performance every single time you use it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes the MIP Gen 2 nut driver better than the original MIP version? — The Gen 2 update introduces several meaningful improvements whilst maintaining the core engineering excellence that MIP is known for. The black oxide coating provides superior protection compared to the previous nickel plating, offering better resistance to corrosion and scratches. The laser-etched size markings are crisp and permanent, ensuring clarity even after years of use, unlike older printed markings that can fade. The overall design maintains the iconic amber handle and colour-coded ring system that users love, so it integrates perfectly into existing MIP tool collections. The Gen 2 update is about evolution, not revolution—the fundamental quality and precision remain unchanged, but every detail has been refined for improved durability and clarity.
  • Is the MIP 5.0mm nut driver suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. This tool is ideal for anyone new to RC hobbies who needs to perform basic maintenance and adjustments on their RC vehicles. The intuitive design requires no special technique—simply place the socket over the nut and turn. The colour-coded ring and clear size markings make it easy to identify, and the comfortable amber handle provides good control for users of all experience levels. Whether you're maintaining a ready-to-run RC model or learning to adjust components on a race kit, this tool is accessible and reliable.
  • Why do RC tools need to be specifically designed for the hobby? — RC vehicles use fasteners in configurations and locations that differ from standard applications. The deep socket head on this MIP nut driver reaches nuts on long screws and in recessed areas where standard tools cannot fit. The thin-wall design allows the tool to access tight spaces between closely packed components that are typical on RC models. The compact length provides the precise control needed for fine adjustments in confined areas. These design features make this tool essential for proper RC maintenance and adjustment—using generic tools risks stripping fasteners and damaging expensive components.
  • What size nut does the 5.0mm nut driver fit? — This tool is designed for 5.0mm nuts, which are commonly used on RC vehicles for fastening various components including suspension pieces, electronics mounts, and chassis parts. The 5.0mm size is one of the most frequently used nut sizes in RC hobby applications, making this tool an essential addition to any RC tool collection.
  • How durable is the black oxide coating? — The black oxide finish is significantly more durable than traditional nickel plating. It provides superior protection against oxidation and corrosion, which means your tool will maintain its appearance and performance even with regular use and exposure to various environmental conditions. The coating is resistant to scratches and wear, helping your tool look and function like new for years of regular use in the RC hobby.
  • Can I use this nut driver on all types of RC vehicles? — Yes, the MIP 5.0mm nut driver is suitable for use on virtually all types of RC vehicles including RC buggies, RC trucks, RC crawlers, and other models that use 5.0mm fasteners. The versatility of this tool size makes it one of the most useful nut drivers in any RC enthusiast's collection.
  • Why is hand assembly important for a nut driver tool? — Hand assembly ensures that every tool meets MIP's exacting quality standards. Skilled technicians inspect each tool during assembly, checking for proper fit, alignment, and performance before it leaves the factory. This hands-on approach has been part of MIP's manufacturing process for 30 years and is one reason why MIP tools are trusted by World Champions and serious hobbyists worldwide.
