Overview
The FTX Ball Bearing (2*5*2.5) with steel cover is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliable performance from their models. Whether you're running an FTX rock crawler, buggy, monster truck or any other RC vehicle, quality bearings are fundamental to smooth operation, reduced friction and extended component lifespan. These precision ball bearings are engineered to deliver consistent performance in demanding RC applications, from casual backyard bashing to more serious competition use.
This particular bearing specification (2*5*2.5mm) is widely compatible across the extensive FTX range of RC vehicles, making it an ideal spare part to keep in your maintenance kit. The steel cover provides protection against dust, dirt and debris whilst maintaining smooth rotational characteristics. For RC car UK enthusiasts and serious hobbyists alike, maintaining a stock of quality replacement bearings ensures minimal downtime and keeps your RC vehicles performing at their peak. FTX has built a strong reputation in the RC community for producing reliable vehicles and components, and these ball bearings represent that same commitment to quality and durability.
Whether you're replacing worn bearings in your existing setup or upgrading to premium-quality alternatives, the FTX Ball Bearing FTX-BB007 is an investment in smoother, more responsive handling and improved longevity of your RC model. Regular bearing maintenance and replacement is a fundamental aspect of RC vehicle care that serious operators understand and prioritise.
Key Features
- Precision 2*5*2.5mm Specification — This exact dimension ensures perfect fitment in the countless RC applications where these bearings are designed to work, providing seamless compatibility across the extensive FTX vehicle range and other compatible RC models, which means you don't need to worry about sizing issues or poor fits.
- Steel Cover Protection — The integrated steel cover shields the bearing races and balls from environmental contamination including dust, dirt, sand and moisture commonly encountered during outdoor RC driving, whilst still allowing free rotation and maintaining the smooth performance characteristics you expect from quality bearings.
- High-Quality Ball Construction — Precision-manufactured steel balls deliver consistent rotational performance with minimal wobble or runout, which directly translates to smoother handling, more accurate steering response and better overall control of your RC vehicle whether it's a rock crawler navigating technical terrain or a buggy racing across open ground.
- Reduced Friction Design — Quality ball bearings significantly reduce friction compared to worn or lower-quality alternatives, meaning your RC vehicle's motors work more efficiently, your battery delivers better runtime, and your vehicle responds more immediately to control inputs from your transmitter.
- Extended Component Lifespan — By replacing worn bearings with fresh FTX units, you protect other expensive components including motors, drive shafts and gearboxes from premature wear caused by misalignment and friction, effectively extending the service life of your entire RC model.
- Universal Compatibility — These bearings work across the comprehensive FTX vehicle lineup including the Outback, Bugsta, Carnage, Comet, Edge, Kanyon, Mauler and numerous other popular FTX models, as well as many other RC brands using the same bearing specification.
Technical Performance
The FTX Ball Bearing (2*5*2.5) represents precision engineering designed specifically for the demands of RC vehicles. The 2mm bore diameter, 5mm outer diameter and 2.5mm width provide the ideal balance of load capacity, rotational efficiency and compact form factor required in modern RC design. Steel ball bearings deliver superior performance compared to plastic alternatives, offering consistent rolling action that reduces energy loss and heat generation during extended running sessions. The steel cover provides genuine protection against the harsh environments where RC vehicles operate—whether that's sandy off-road tracks, dusty basins, wet grass or rocky terrain. For users building high-performance RC cars UK-wide or maintaining existing vehicles, quality bearings are absolutely critical to achieving smooth, responsive handling characteristics. The precision tolerances of FTX bearings ensure minimal radial play and runout, which directly impacts steering accuracy and overall vehicle handling dynamics. Regular replacement of bearings as part of routine maintenance prevents cumulative damage to other drivetrain components and maintains your RC model in peak operating condition.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which FTX RC vehicles use the 2*5*2.5 ball bearing? — The FTX-BB007 bearing is compatible across a vast range of FTX models including the Outback series, Bugsta, Carnage NT, Carnage, Colt, Comet, DR8, Edge, EVO30, Hi-Rock, Kanyon, Mauler, Mighty Thunder, Mini Outback range, Outback Fury variants, Outlaw, Ravine, Siege, Stinger, Tracer, Vantage and many others. Check your specific vehicle's parts diagram to confirm compatibility, though these are among the most commonly used bearing sizes in the FTX range.
- How often should I replace bearings in my RC vehicle? — The frequency depends on how intensively you use your RC model and the conditions you drive in. Heavy use in sandy, dusty or wet environments requires more frequent bearing replacement—potentially every few months. Casual weekend use might extend bearing life to 6-12 months. If you notice grinding noises, resistance to spinning, or increased drag, it's definitely time to replace the bearings.
- What's the difference between steel cover and sealed bearings? — Steel cover bearings provide good protection against large particles and splashing water whilst remaining slightly more accessible for cleaning and maintenance if needed. Fully sealed or shielded bearings offer additional protection but may have slightly higher rolling resistance. For most recreational RC users, steel cover bearings provide the optimal balance of protection and performance.
- Can I use these bearings as an upgrade on my current RC vehicle? — Yes, absolutely. If your current vehicle uses 2*5*2.5 bearings, upgrading to quality FTX bearings will provide noticeably smoother operation, better steering response and improved efficiency. This is one of the most cost-effective upgrades available for improving RC vehicle performance.
- Do I need any tools to install these bearings? — Most RC bearing replacements require only basic tools—typically a bearing puller or small shaft removal tool, depending on your specific vehicle design. Most FTX vehicles use press-fit bearing installations that can be handled with standard RC tools. Consult your vehicle manual for specific installation procedures.
- Why should I buy original FTX bearings instead of cheaper alternatives? — FTX bearings are engineered and tested specifically for FTX vehicles, ensuring proper tolerances, smooth operation and compatibility. Cheaper generic bearings often have looser tolerances, higher runout and shorter lifespan, ultimately costing more over time when accounting for vehicle damage and more frequent replacements.
