Overview
Upgrade your Tamiya CW-01 chassis with the Fastrax Aluminium Steering Blocks & Axles, a premium hop-up option designed to enhance the performance and durability of your RC crawler. Whether you own a Tamiya Lunch Box, Midnight Pumpkin, or any compatible CW-01 model, these aluminium steering components offer a significant step up from standard plastic parts. Built from lightweight yet rigid aluminium alloy, these steering blocks and axles are engineered to improve steering precision, reduce flex, and extend the lifespan of your RC vehicle's front end. For UK RC enthusiasts looking to maximise the potential of their Tamiya crawler, this Fastrax upgrade represents outstanding value and genuine performance improvement.
If you're serious about RC crawler performance, you understand that the steering system is critical to handling and manoeuvrability. The factory plastic steering blocks found on standard Tamiya CW-01 models can wear, flex, and degrade over time, especially during intense off-road bashing or competitive crawling. The Fastrax aluminium alternative eliminates these weaknesses, providing a rock-solid steering geometry that maintains precision lap after lap. This is the kind of upgrade that separates casual RC operators from dedicated hobbyists who demand reliability and repeatability from their ready-to-run RC cars and crawler trucks.
These aluminium steering blocks and axles are supplied as a pair, giving you everything needed to completely refresh the front steering geometry of your Tamiya CW-01-based model. Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance experience, and the compatibility is guaranteed across all listed Tamiya platforms. This is a must-have upgrade for anyone looking to build a truly capable, durable RC crawler that will perform consistently on rocky terrain, technical crawling courses, and challenging off-road environments.
Key Features
- Lightweight Aluminium Construction — These steering blocks and axles are machined from premium aluminium alloy, delivering exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that improves steering response whilst reducing unsprung mass at the front end of your RC crawler.
- Precision Engineering — Fastrax components are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring that steering geometry remains consistent and true, providing predictable handling characteristics that are essential for competitive RC crawling and technical terrain navigation.
- Reduced Flex and Wear — Unlike plastic steering blocks, aluminium components resist flexing under load and maintain their shape indefinitely, eliminating the gradual wear and handling degradation that plastic components experience over extended use.
- Complete Pair Supply — You receive both left and right steering blocks and axles in a single purchase, giving you everything needed for a complete front-end upgrade without requiring multiple part purchases.
- Direct Compatibility — These parts are designed specifically for the Tamiya CW-01 chassis platform, guaranteeing perfect fitment on all compatible models including Lunch Box, Midnight Pumpkin, X-SA variants, and Black Edition versions.
- Enhanced Steering Control — The rigid construction of aluminium components provides superior steering feel and control inputs, allowing more precise adjustment of steering angle and giving you better command of your RC car during tight technical crawling sections.
- Long-Term Durability — Aluminium steering components maintain their performance characteristics indefinitely, resisting the creep and degradation associated with plastic, making this a genuine long-term investment in your RC hobby.
- Fastrax Quality Assurance — Fastrax is a recognised manufacturer of premium RC hop-up parts and upgrade components, with a solid reputation for quality, accuracy, and compatibility across the UK RC community.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax Aluminium Steering Blocks & Axles represent a substantial engineering upgrade over the factory plastic components supplied on standard Tamiya CW-01 models. Constructed from precision-machined aluminium alloy, these components deliver the rigidity and durability demanded by serious RC crawler drivers. The steering blocks form the critical interface between the suspension and steering mechanism, whilst the paired axles transmit steering input directly to the wheels. In plastic form, these components can flex under cornering loads and impact stress, leading to unpredictable steering response and progressive wear that degrades handling over time. The aluminium upgrade eliminates this weakness entirely. Fastrax has engineered these components to integrate seamlessly with the existing CW-01 platform, maintaining factory-correct geometry whilst dramatically improving performance and longevity. The material choice is significant: aluminium offers approximately three times the rigidity of engineering plastics at roughly one-third the weight, meaning improved steering precision without any penalty to overall vehicle weight distribution. For RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to extract maximum performance from their Tamiya crawler, this upgrade delivers measurable improvements in steering accuracy, cornering control, and component lifespan. The pair supply ensures symmetrical geometry left and right, critical for consistent handling in technical crawling situations where unequal steering characteristics can cause unpredictable behaviour on loose or technical terrain.
What's in the Box

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will these Fastrax aluminium steering blocks fit my Tamiya Lunch Box or Midnight Pumpkin? — Yes, these steering blocks and axles are designed specifically for the Tamiya CW-01 chassis platform. They are fully compatible with the Tamiya Lunch Box (models 58347 and 58546 Black Edition), Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin (including 58365 Metallic Special, 58547 Black Edition, and 46705 X-SA Midnight Pumpkin Black Edition). Installation is straightforward and no modifications are required.
- What is the actual performance benefit of upgrading to aluminium steering blocks? — Aluminium steering components are dramatically more rigid than plastic, resulting in more consistent steering response, better handling precision, and improved reliability during aggressive crawling. You'll notice immediate improvements in steering feel and control, particularly when navigating technical terrain or competing in RC crawler events. The upgraded geometry also maintains accuracy over extended use, whereas plastic components gradually flex and wear.
- How do I install these Fastrax steering blocks on my RC crawler? — Installation requires basic RC maintenance skills and standard tools. The process involves removing the existing plastic steering blocks from the front axle assembly and replacing them with the Fastrax aluminium components. Full detailed instructions should be available from the Fastrax website or your RC retailer. If you're unsure about the installation process, we recommend consulting with experienced RC hobbyists in the UK community or seeking guidance from your local RC shop.
- Are these steering blocks part of a larger hop-up kit, or should I purchase additional upgrades? — These steering blocks and axles are sold as a standalone pair, allowing you to upgrade just the steering components if that's your priority. However, many RC enthusiasts in the UK prefer to upgrade multiple components simultaneously for balanced performance improvements. Consider also upgrading suspension arms, differentials, or other critical components as part of a comprehensive chassis refresh.
- Will upgrading my steering blocks improve my crawling times or competition performance? — Yes, these components will improve your handling precision and steering consistency, which directly translates to better performance on technical terrain and organised crawling courses. The improved rigidity reduces unpredictable steering behaviour caused by flex in plastic components, allowing you to navigate obstacles more accurately and consistently.
- Is this upgrade suitable for beginners to RC crawling? — These are premium upgrade components intended primarily for intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts, though they are suitable for any skill level. Beginners can certainly benefit from the improved durability and performance, but basic RC knowledge is helpful for installation and adjustment.
