Technical Performance
The Etronix Pulse FHSS Receiver ET1163 is engineered to deliver exceptional signal stability and range in the demanding 2.4GHz frequency band. Operating across 4.8–6.0V input voltage, the receiver achieves interference-free performance through Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology, which automatically cycles through multiple channels at extremely rapid intervals—far too fast for competing signals to disrupt your control signal. This advanced protocol makes the ET1163 ideal for busy UK RC venues, racing clubs, and events where numerous models operate simultaneously. The receiver's compact design does not compromise on performance; the 26mm antenna is precisely engineered to deliver the full operating range (up to 250 metres terrain dependent when paired with the EX4G Pro transmitter) whilst maintaining the smallest possible physical footprint for installation in modern RC chassis. The receiver's failsafe architecture includes intelligent throttle position management, allowing configurable protection against signal loss scenarios. When integrated with the Etronix EX4G Pro transmitter system, the ET1163 becomes part of a fully-featured radio platform supporting advanced functions including real-time telemetry voltage monitoring, programmable dual-rate controls, customisable throttle and steering response curves, ABS pulse braking functions with adjustable parameters, and channel mixing for sophisticated vehicle control requirements. The digital trim adjustment system provides fine-tuning capability across a range of -60 to +60 with audible feedback at neutral and endpoints, whilst steering dual-rate control offers adjustment from 0% to 120% of maximum servo travel. End-point adjustment similarly ranges from 0% to 120%, giving you complete control over the actual servo travel distances across all channels. The throttle hold function can be programmed from 0–100% on a linear scale, useful for engine warm-up before operation. Supporting both positive and negative steering and throttle curves, the system allows you to select sharper initial response (positive curve) or smoother initial response (negative curve) depending on your driving preference. The ABS braking function provides pulse-based deceleration control with independently adjustable activation point, brake pulse distance, pulse speed, and brake release delay parameters. Channel monitor functions display real-time servo pulse values (approximately 1000–2000µs), allowing precise diagnostics and setup verification.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Etronix Pulse FHSS Receiver ET1163 compatible with my RC car or boat? — The ET1163 is specifically designed for use with the Etronix EX4G Pro transmitter system and is compatible with any RC car, RC boat, or surface model that you wish to control with this radio platform. This includes 2WD and 4WD RC buggies, RC monster trucks, RC rock crawlers, RC buggies, RC boats, and other surface models. Compatibility is determined by the transmitter and receiver pairing, not the vehicle type. However, you must have the matching Etronix EX4G Pro transmitter to use this receiver.
- What is FHSS and why should I care about it? — FHSS stands for Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum, a digital technology that rapidly switches your radio signal between multiple frequency channels thousands of times per second. This makes it virtually impossible for other 2.4GHz signals (from other RC models, WiFi networks, or wireless devices) to interfere with your control link. If you're racing at UK clubs or busy RC events where multiple models operate simultaneously, FHSS technology is essential for reliable, interference-free control. The Etronix system uses FHSS to ensure your RC car remains responsive and stable even in crowded frequency environments.
- Can I use this receiver with other transmitters? — No, the ET1163 receiver is specifically designed to work with the Etronix EX4G Pro transmitter system. The receiver and transmitter must be frequency-matched through a binding process before use. The ET1163 will not work with other brand transmitters or non-compatible Etronix transmitter models. You must use an authentic Etronix EX4G Pro (model ET1117) or compatible variant transmitter.
- What voltage battery do I need for this receiver? — The ET1163 requires input voltage between 4.8 and 6.0 volts. This means you can use a 4-cell NiMH battery pack (nominal 4.8V, approximately 5.6V when fully charged) or certain LiPo configurations within this voltage range. Most standard RC hobby batteries (4-cell NiMH packs) operate perfectly within the ET1163's voltage specification. Always check your specific battery pack's nominal and maximum voltages before connecting to ensure they fall within the 4.8–6.0V operating range. Never exceed 6.0V input voltage, as this may damage the receiver electronics.
- What is failsafe and how does it protect my model? — Failsafe is a safety function that automatically positions your model's throttle to a pre-programmed setting if the radio signal is lost between transmitter and receiver. You configure the failsafe throttle position through the EX4G Pro transmitter menu before operation. In most cases, hobbyists programme the failsafe to cut throttle completely (0% throttle), which stops the model immediately if signal is lost. This protection prevents runaway models and keeps your RC car or boat under control in the unlikely event of radio interference or signal dropout. The failsafe throttle position is fully configurable, allowing you to choose the exact behavior that suits your specific model and driving circumstances.
- Is this receiver suitable for beginners? — The ET1163 receiver itself is straightforward to install—it simply connects to your servo(s) and ESC via standard servo connectors, and plugs into a compatible battery pack. However, the Etronix EX4G Pro transmitter system has a comprehensive menu with many adjustable features (dual-rate control, EPA, mixing, curves, ABS settings, etc.), which gives experienced users tremendous control but may initially overwhelm complete beginners. That said, the system includes helpful documentation, and RC Model Shop team can provide expert guidance to help you get started. The receiver is durable and reliable once properly set up, making it perfectly suitable for beginners willing to learn the system.
- How far away can I operate my RC car from the transmitter? — The Etronix EX4G Pro system (when paired with the ET1163 receiver) offers operating range up to 250 metres, though this range is terrain-dependent. In open spaces with clear line of sight between transmitter and receiver antenna, you'll achieve maximum range. Indoor environments, buildings, metal structures, and dense vegetation can reduce operating range. For typical RC car and boat use at hobby clubs and racing events across the UK, you'll have more than sufficient range for safe and enjoyable operation.
- Can I store multiple model setups on this receiver? — Yes, the ET1163 receiver works with the EX4G Pro transmitter's model memory function, which stores up to 6 unique model profiles. Each profile includes individual receiver binding and all your custom settings (failsafe position, dual-rate values, EPA settings, curve adjustments, ABS parameters, mixing configurations, trim positions, etc.). This allows you to switch instantly between different RC models—your 4WD buggy, your RC boat, your crawler, etc.—without reprogramming or rebinding the receiver each time. Simply select the model profile on the transmitter, and all your custom settings load automatically.
- What servos and ESC should I use with this receiver? — The ET1163 is a standard 4-channel receiver compatible with any standard RC servo (steering servo, throttle servo) and any RC ESC that accepts standard servo signal input. You can use analogue or digital servos, and brushless or brushed ESCs. Servo torque and speed requirements depend entirely on your specific RC model—heavier buggies need higher-torque servos, whilst lightweight buggy models can use lighter servos. Similarly, ESC current rating depends on your motor choice and vehicle weight. RC Model Shop's expert team can help you select appropriate servos and ESC for your specific RC car or boat if you need guidance.
- How do I bind the receiver to the transmitter? — Binding links the ET1163 receiver to your Etronix EX4G Pro transmitter so they communicate securely on the same frequency channel. The binding process is described in detail in the Etronix Pulse EX4GPRO manual (available from the manufacturer). Generally, you power on the receiver whilst holding a binding button or entering a binding mode on the transmitter, allowing them to establish their secure connection. Once bound, the receiver remembers the transmitter's frequency and settings. The process takes only a few moments and needs to be done only once (or if you wish to pair the receiver with a different transmitter).
- Is the ET1163 waterproof or suitable for RC boats? — The ET1163 receiver is designed for standard RC applications but does not have an official waterproof rating mentioned in the specifications. If you're using it in an RC boat, you should protect the receiver in a waterproof enclosure or sealed container to prevent water ingress and potential damage from moisture. Contact RC Model Shop for specific advice on protecting receiver electronics in aquatic applications, as waterproofing depends on your specific boat design and operating conditions.
