Overview

The Corally M1.0 Pinion Short Hardened Steel 22 Teeth Shaft Dia. 5mm MOD1 (C-72722) is a premium-grade pinion gear designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. This is a high-performance component engineered to deliver unparalleled reliability, precision and durability in your 1/8 scale RC car setup. Whether you're running a brushless RC buggy, truggy or competition-grade RC vehicle, this pinion gear represents the pinnacle of European manufacturing excellence and attention to detail.

Team Corally has established itself as a trusted name in the RC hobby, delivering components that meet the exacting standards of professional racers and weekend bashers alike. This particular pinion gear is manufactured using special hardened steel and precision CNC cutting techniques to ensure perfect tooth geometry and concentricity. When you're upgrading your RC car UK setup or fine-tuning your gear ratio for optimal performance, choosing the right pinion is absolutely critical – and the Corally C-72722 delivers the quality you can depend on.

Available in a 22-tooth configuration with MOD1 pitch, this pinion is compatible with all 1/8 scale RC cars featuring MOD1 gearing systems and 5.0mm motor shafts. The short design and precise engineering make it an ideal choice for those seeking vibration-free operation, improved power transfer efficiency, and extended component lifespan. If you're serious about your RC hobby, this is the kind of component that separates champions from the rest of the field.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — Manufactured from premium-grade hardened steel that provides exceptional toughness and resistance to wear, ensuring your pinion maintains its tooth profile and concentricity even under extreme racing conditions and repeated high-torque demands.
  • CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Geometry — Every tooth is precisely cut on a dedicated gear machine using CNC technology, guaranteeing perfect tooth shape and absolutely true running characteristics that eliminate vibration and maximise power transfer to your RC vehicle's drivetrain.
  • Unparalleled Concentricity — The manufacturing process delivers ultra-true running with precise tolerances that ensure the pinion gear runs perfectly centred on the motor shaft, reducing vibration that can damage bearings and rob your RC car of performance.
  • MOD1 Pitch Standard — This pinion features MOD1 (Module 1.0) pitch, which is the industry standard for 1/8 scale RC cars, ensuring perfect mesh compatibility with all MOD1 spur gears and drivetrain components.
  • 22-Tooth Configuration — The 22-tooth setup provides a balanced gear ratio suitable for a wide range of track conditions and driving styles, offering a versatile starting point that can be fine-tuned with alternative spur gear selections for different racing environments.
  • 5.0mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Engineered specifically for 5.0mm diameter motor shafts, ensuring a secure fit with standard brushless RC motors and eliminating slippage during acceleration and cornering.
  • Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number, allowing you to quickly identify the correct gear ratio configuration in your pit box and ensure you're running the optimal setup for your racing conditions.
  • Made in Europe — Manufactured in Europe to the highest quality standards, this component reflects Team Corally's commitment to precision engineering and sustainability in RC manufacturing.
  • Compact Short Design — The short profile reduces weight and minimises drivetrain resistance, contributing to improved acceleration and efficiency in your 1/8 scale RC buggy or truggy.

Technical Performance

The Corally M1.0 Pinion represents a significant investment in reliability and performance for your RC car UK setup. The special hardened steel material has been specifically selected to withstand the immense stress loads generated by modern brushless motors whilst maintaining dimensional stability across extended racing sessions. The CNC manufacturing process creates tooth profiles with microscopically precise geometry, ensuring perfect engagement with your spur gear and eliminating the slack and backlash that can develop with inferior components. With a shaft diameter of exactly 5.0mm and a teeth width of 6.2mm, this pinion integrates seamlessly into standard 1/8 scale drivetrain configurations. The overall gear length of 13mm keeps the assembly compact without sacrificing strength or durability. The 2.0mm hex key sizing for installation makes setup straightforward, whether you're performing routine maintenance or completely rebuilding your RC car's drivetrain. Ultra-true running characteristics minimise vibration across the entire RPM range, from gentle trail running to full-throttle competition racing. This attention to precision engineering translates directly into extended bearing life, reduced driveline noise, smoother acceleration, and ultimately faster lap times and more reliable performance when it counts most.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What scale RC car is this pinion gear designed for? — This is an MOD1 pinion gear specifically engineered for 1/8 scale RC cars and buggies. The MOD1 (Module 1.0) pitch is the industry standard for 1/8 scale vehicles, making it compatible with all MOD1 spur gears and drivetrain systems in this size class.
  • How do I know if this pinion is compatible with my RC vehicle? — Check that your RC car uses MOD1 gearing (not MOD0.6 or MOD2) and has a 5.0mm diameter motor shaft. If both conditions are met, this pinion will work perfectly. The 22-tooth configuration is a versatile starting point for most 1/8 scale vehicles on standard tracks and road courses.
  • Why is hardened steel better for RC pinion gears? — Hardened steel provides superior wear resistance and strength compared to standard steel. This means your pinion teeth maintain their precise geometry longer, continuing to mesh perfectly with your spur gear even after hundreds of runs. This extended lifespan and maintained performance justifies the investment in premium components like the Corally C-72722.
  • What is concentricity and why does it matter in RC pinion gears? — Concentricity refers to how perfectly centred the pinion gear runs on the motor shaft. Precise concentricity eliminates wobbling and vibration during rotation, which reduces bearing stress, improves power transfer efficiency, and minimises drivetrain noise. The CNC manufacturing of this Corally pinion ensures exceptional concentricity across every unit produced.
  • Can I use different tooth counts with this pinion? — Yes, the beauty of MOD1 pinion gears is the availability of multiple tooth counts (typically ranging from 18T to 25T). By selecting different pinion and spur gear combinations, you can adjust your overall gear ratio to optimise performance for different track conditions, weather, and driving styles. The 22-tooth pinion is an excellent middle-ground option.
  • How often will I need to replace this pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and lubrication, a hardened steel pinion like this one can last for hundreds of racing runs. The special hardened steel construction means it resists wear far better than softer materials. Regular inspection for tooth damage and timely replacement of the spur gear (which typically wears faster) will maximise your pinion's lifespan.
  • Is this suitable for competitive RC racing in the UK? — Absolutely. Team Corally components are used by serious racers and competition teams across Europe. The precision engineering, CNC manufacturing, and hardened steel construction make this pinion an excellent choice for club racing, regional competitions, and dedicated track sessions. Many UK RC clubs and event organisers recognise and recommend Corally components.
  • What tools do I need to install this pinion? — Installation requires a 2.0mm hex key for securing the pinion on your motor shaft. Depending on your motor setup, you may also need a small wrench or hex driver to secure the grub screw. Always ensure the pinion is correctly positioned and tightened to prevent slippage during acceleration.
