Technical Performance

The Associated Silicone Diff Fluid 15000cSt represents professional-grade differential oil engineered for competitive RC car racing. The 15,000cSt viscosity rating places this fluid in the popular mid-range, offering the ideal balance between responsive differential response and stable performance characteristics. Centistokes (cSt) is the universal measurement standard for oil viscosity, measuring a liquid's resistance to deformation; as a reference, water at 20°C has a viscosity of approximately 1cSt, meaning this 15,000cSt fluid is significantly thicker and more suitable for differential applications where controlled friction and response are critical. The premium silicone formulation is designed to maintain consistent performance across varying conditions and temperatures, crucial for UK racers who may encounter diverse weather conditions throughout the racing season. Manufactured using premium silicone materials and production standards established by Lucas Oil Products, this fluid delivers the repeatability and stability that separates competitive setups from casual backyard bashing. The careful balance of viscosity ensures that your differential responds predictably to driver inputs while maintaining the structural integrity and longevity of internal gears and bearings, allowing you to focus on perfecting your driving technique rather than worrying about equipment reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does cSt mean and why does viscosity matter in RC differential fluid? — cSt stands for centistokes, the universal unit of measurement for oil viscosity, measuring the resistance to deformation of a liquid. Water at 20°C has a viscosity of about 1cSt as a reference point. In RC cars, differential fluid viscosity directly affects how quickly and responsively your diff reacts to changes in traction and cornering, making it a critical tuning parameter. Higher viscosity (thicker) fluid creates more friction and slower diff action, whilst lower viscosity (thinner) fluid allows faster responses. The 15,000cSt rating of this fluid sits in the popular mid-range, offering racers excellent balance between control and responsiveness.
  • Why should I choose Factory Team Silicone Diff Fluid over other brands? — This fluid is manufactured exclusively in the USA by Lucas Oil Products, one of the world's leading oil manufacturers, specifically for Team Associated. Every batch is laboratory-tested to ensure consistent viscosity, eliminating variables that could affect your setup. The premium silicone formulation provides more consistent differential action and extended service life, meaning your differential performs predictably and stays in condition longer. For competitive racers, this consistency and quality control directly translates to more predictable car behaviour and better lap times.
  • How often should I change my RC differential fluid? — The frequency depends on how much you use your car and the conditions. After heavy use, particularly on dusty or wet tracks, you should inspect your differential and consider refreshing the fluid. The premium formulation of this Factory Team fluid promotes extended service life, so you won't need to change it as frequently as lower-quality oils. Always keep spare bottles in your pit kit to ensure you can maintain optimal differential performance throughout racing events.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a premium fluid designed for competitive racers, beginners will certainly benefit from its consistent performance and quality. If you're new to RC racing and learning about setup tuning, having reliable differential fluid means one less variable to worry about. However, beginners may want to start with a mid-range viscosity like this 15,000cSt before exploring lighter or heavier fluids as they gain experience in differential tuning.
  • What is the difference between silicone and other types of differential fluid? — Silicone oils, like this Factory Team product, offer superior stability across temperature ranges and better longevity compared to some alternative formulations. The premium silicone blend maintains consistent performance whether your car is running in warm summer conditions or cooler UK weather, making it ideal for the variable climate conditions British RC racers encounter. This consistency makes silicone the preferred choice for serious competitors.
  • Can I use this fluid in differentials other than my Associated car? — Whilst this fluid is optimised for Associated vehicles, the 15,000cSt viscosity makes it compatible with many other RC cars from different manufacturers that use similar differential systems. However, always check your car's manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm compatibility with non-Associated vehicles before use. Associated compatibility is guaranteed.
