Manufactured by Team Associated, a brand renowned for engineering excellence in the RC hobby, this aluminium pinion gear set represents a cost-effective way to maintain your RC buggy in peak racing condition. The set includes three pinion gears in tooth counts of 12T, 13T and 14T, all machined to 64-pitch specifications. This variety enables you to experiment with gearing ratios and find the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed for your particular driving style and racing venue. Whether you're preparing for club racing, maintaining a classic RC buggy collection or simply keeping spare parts on hand for emergency repairs, this genuine Team Associated spare delivers the reliability and precision that competitive RC drivers expect.
RC enthusiasts across the UK trust Team Associated products for their durability, accuracy and performance. This pinion gear set is designed specifically for the RC28R FT platform, ensuring perfect compatibility and fitment with your existing drivetrain components. By choosing genuine Team Associated spares over generic alternatives, you're investing in components that have been engineered and tested to work seamlessly with your buggy's transmission system, ensuring smooth power delivery and consistent handling characteristics that directly impact your competitive edge on the track.
Key Features
- Three Pinion Gear Options — The set includes 12T, 13T and 14T pinion gears, allowing you to adjust your buggy's gear ratio to suit different track surfaces, racing conditions and personal driving preferences without needing to purchase multiple separate components.
- 64-Pitch Specification — The 64-pitch standard ensures these gears mesh perfectly with compatible spur gears and transmission components, providing smooth engagement, minimal backlash and reliable power transfer from your motor to the wheels.
- Aluminium Construction — Manufactured from quality aluminium material, these pinion gears offer an excellent balance of lightweight design and durability, reducing unsprung mass while maintaining the structural integrity needed for demanding RC racing applications.
- Team Associated Genuine Component — As an official Team Associated spare part, this gear set is engineered to the exact specifications required by the RC28R FT platform, guaranteeing compatibility and performance that you simply cannot rely upon from counterfeit or generic alternatives.
- Essential Maintenance Spare — Keeping spare pinion gears on hand ensures you're never sidelined by gear damage or wear, allowing you to continue racing and training without delays while you wait for replacement parts to arrive.
- Gearing Tuning Flexibility — With three different tooth count options in one set, you can quickly experiment with gear ratios to optimise your buggy for acceleration-focused driving on tight, technical tracks or speed-focused setups on fast, open circuits.
Technical Performance
The TEAM ASSOCIATED RC28R FT Aluminium Pinion Gear Set represents precision engineering at its finest, with each pinion gear manufactured to exacting tolerances that ensure smooth meshing with your transmission spur gear and consistent power delivery throughout your race run. The 64-pitch specification is the industry standard for 1/10-scale RC buggies and ensures perfect compatibility with Associated transmission components and aftermarket upgrades. Aluminium construction provides the ideal strength-to-weight ratio for RC applications, with sufficient material density to withstand the torque loads generated by modern brushless motors whilst remaining light enough not to add unnecessary rotational inertia to your drivetrain. The inclusion of three different tooth counts—12T, 13T and 14T—allows you to fine-tune your gearing strategy; lower tooth counts (12T) provide quicker acceleration with a lower top speed, ideal for technical tracks with many corners and elevation changes, whilst higher counts (14T) sacrifice some launch speed to achieve higher terminal velocity on faster, more open racing venues. Each gear has been precision-cut and inspected to ensure tooth profile accuracy, pitch diameter consistency and smooth engagement characteristics that minimise drivetrain noise and mechanical losses, directly translating to better handling response and more predictable buggy behaviour on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need multiple tooth counts? — A pinion gear is the small gear mounted on your motor shaft that transfers power to the larger spur gear on your buggy's transmission. Different tooth counts change your buggy's gear ratio: a 12T pinion accelerates faster but reaches a lower top speed, whilst a 14T pinion accelerates more slowly but achieves higher terminal velocity. Having all three options lets you quickly adapt your setup to different track layouts and racing conditions without needing to order separate parts.
- Is the AS21691 suitable for beginners? — This is a spare parts component rather than a complete ready-to-run setup, so it's most suitable for experienced RC hobbyists who already own a compatible Team Associated buggy and understand drivetrain concepts like gear ratios. If you're new to RC cars, you'll need to start with a complete RC car kit or ready-to-run model first, then use spare parts like this to maintain and optimise your buggy as your skills develop.
- What does 64-pitch mean and why does it matter? — Pitch refers to the gear tooth standard that determines how gears mesh together. 64-pitch is the standard specification for 1/10-scale RC buggies and ensures that these pinion gears will fit perfectly with compatible Team Associated transmission components and aftermarket spur gears. Using the wrong pitch would result in poor meshing, excessive backlash and potential gear damage.
- Which pinion gear tooth count should I use? — The ideal choice depends on your track and driving style. Smaller tracks with tight corners benefit from lower pinion tooth counts like 12T, which provide quicker acceleration. Larger, faster tracks favour higher counts like 14T, which deliver better top speed. Start with 13T as a middle ground, then experiment with the other options to find your preference.
- Are these gears compatible with my RC10 Model 24 Classic Buggy? — Yes, these pinion gears are specifically designed for Team Associated platforms like the RC10 Model 24, as indicated by the RC28R FT designation. Always verify compatibility with your specific buggy model before purchasing, but this component is engineered for seamless fitment with compatible Associated transmission systems.
- How often do pinion gears need replacing? — Pinion gear lifespan depends on usage intensity, motor power and maintenance practices. Casual recreational drivers may replace them annually or less frequently, whilst competitive racers might change them every few months. Regular inspection for tooth wear, chipping or damage ensures optimal drivetrain performance and prevents catastrophic transmission failure during races.
