Overview
The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Servo Horn 18.5mm 25T Savox/Futaba (AS1363) is a premium upgrade component designed for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand performance and reliability from their RC car setups. This machined aluminium servo horn represents a significant step up from the plastic alternatives that typically come fitted as standard on most servos, offering enhanced durability and refined steering response that will transform your RC driving experience. Whether you're running a Team Associated RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8T3, or RC8T3e on the track or bashing at the weekend, this servo horn upgrade is engineered to deliver the precision and strength required for competitive performance.
Servo horns are critical components in any RC car's steering system, as they directly transfer the servo motor's rotational force into linear steering input. A poorly designed or worn servo horn can introduce slop, inconsistency, and accelerated wear on your servo mechanism. The Factory Team engineers at Associated have addressed these issues head-on by designing this servo horn with precision machining and premium aluminium construction. The shorter 18.5mm length provides a mechanical advantage that improves steering feel whilst simultaneously reducing the stress placed on your servo motor, extending component lifespan and maintaining precise control even during extended driving sessions.
RC enthusiasts across the UK—from casual hobbyists to dedicated competitors—recognise that upgrading to quality aftermarket components like this servo horn is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve vehicle performance and reliability. This is not merely a cosmetic upgrade; the engineering benefits translate directly into better handling characteristics, faster response times, and reduced servo wear over the life of your vehicle.
Key Features
- Machined Aluminium Construction — The servo horn is manufactured from premium aluminium that has been precision machined to exacting standards, providing superior strength compared to injection-moulded plastic horns that are prone to cracking, stripping, and wear under load. Aluminium's inherent rigidity means zero flex or deflection during aggressive steering inputs, translating to more responsive and predictable handling characteristics that directly improve lap times and control.
- 18.5mm Length Design — The optimised 18.5mm length provides a shorter mechanical throw compared to standard longer servo horns, which reduces the rotational load and stress placed on the servo motor itself. This shorter geometry delivers a smoother, more refined steering feel with reduced dead zones, whilst simultaneously decreasing servo wear and extending the operational life of your servo mechanism—an important consideration for anyone running expensive digital servos in competitive environments.
- 25T Spline Fitment for Savox and Futaba — This servo horn features the industry-standard 25-tooth spline pattern, making it fully compatible with the output shafts of both Savox and Futaba servo brands. The precise spline engagement ensures zero backlash and consistent steering feedback, critical for maintaining the repeatability required in competitive RC racing across the UK.
- Direct OEM Compatibility — Engineered specifically by Associated's Factory Team to integrate seamlessly with the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8T3, and RC8T3e platform, this servo horn is designed as a direct replacement for the stock plastic component. Installation is straightforward, requiring no modifications, drilling, or complex adjustments to your existing steering geometry.
- Performance-Oriented Engineering — This is a genuine Factory Team component, meaning it has been developed and tested by the same engineers responsible for Associated's competitive race vehicles. You're not buying a generic aftermarket part; you're investing in engineering developed specifically for vehicle performance and reliability.
Technical Performance
The mechanical advantage delivered by this servo horn's design philosophy is rooted in solid engineering principles. By reducing the lever arm length to 18.5mm, Associated has struck an optimal balance between steering sensitivity and servo protection. Longer servo horns—whilst providing greater mechanical leverage—introduce higher torque loads on the servo's internal gearbox and output shaft, accelerating wear and increasing the risk of stripping or failure under racing conditions. The 18.5mm length minimises these loads whilst maintaining responsive steering input, a critical characteristic for maintaining consistency throughout a driving session. The machined aluminium construction provides exceptional rigidity, eliminating the subtle flexing that can occur with plastic horns under hard cornering or rapid steering inputs. This means every steering input from your radio transmitter is translated directly into vehicle movement with minimal delay or distortion. The 25T spline fitment ensures positive engagement with no slippage, roundoff, or creep—issues that plague lower-quality servo horns and can result in the horn rotating freely on the servo shaft without transmitting steering commands. For serious RC car enthusiasts in the UK running associated vehicles in both competitive and recreational environments, this servo horn upgrade represents one of the most impactful performance modifications available, offering measurable improvements in steering precision, vehicle feel, and long-term component reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this servo horn compatible with my Associated RC car? — Yes, this servo horn is specifically designed as a direct replacement for the steering servo in the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8T3, and RC8T3e models. The 25T spline pattern is also compatible with any Savox or Futaba servo featuring standard 25T output splines. If you own an Associated RC buggy or truck from this platform lineup, this servo horn will integrate seamlessly into your existing steering system with no modifications required.
- What is the advantage of aluminium over plastic servo horns? — Aluminium offers several critical performance advantages over injection-moulded plastic. Firstly, it is significantly stronger and more rigid, meaning it will not flex or deflect during hard cornering or rapid steering inputs. Secondly, aluminium does not strip or crack under sustained load, whereas plastic horns are prone to these failure modes, particularly the spline teeth that engage with the servo shaft. Thirdly, aluminium provides superior damping of vibration, resulting in more stable and predictable steering feel. Finally, aluminium components retain their precision geometry over their operational lifespan, whereas plastic can degrade and warp over time with UV exposure and thermal cycling.
- Does using a shorter 18.5mm servo horn affect steering sensitivity? — Yes, the 18.5mm length does affect steering sensitivity, but in a positive direction. The shorter lever arm means the servo requires less rotational movement to achieve full steering throw, which improves steering responsiveness and reduces dead zones. Simultaneously, the reduced mechanical leverage decreases the load on the servo motor, meaning you can apply more aggressive steering inputs without risk of servo damage or stalling. This combination of improved response and reduced servo load is why the 18.5mm length is the preferred specification for competitive RC driving.
- Will this servo horn fit my Futaba or Savox servo? — If your Futaba or Savox servo features a standard 25-tooth (25T) output spline, then yes, this servo horn will fit perfectly. The 25T spline is the industry standard for mid-range and high-performance servos from both manufacturers. To confirm compatibility, check your servo's technical documentation or the specification label on the servo itself, which will indicate the spline tooth count. Most Futaba S3003, S3004, and BLS-series servos, along with most Savox models, use the 25T standard.
- Is this a genuine Associated Factory Team component? — Yes, this is an official Associated product manufactured by the Factory Team division. It carries part number AS1363 and is manufactured to the same specifications and quality standards as components supplied to Associated's racing teams. When you purchase this servo horn from RC Model Shop, you are receiving a genuine, authorised Associated component, not a counterfeit or third-party imitation.
- How does this servo horn improve my lap times? — The improvements are both direct and measurable. The reduced servo load means your servo can respond more quickly to steering inputs, improving corner exit speed and mid-corner correction capability. The rigidity of the aluminium construction eliminates steering slop and flex, meaning your vehicle responds more predictably to your inputs, allowing you to develop faster, more consistent driving lines. The 18.5mm length optimisation provides superior steering feel, enabling drivers to feel the vehicle's feedback more clearly and make micro-adjustments with greater precision. In competitive driving environments, these small improvements compound to deliver measurable advantages in lap consistency and ultimate pace.
