Overview

The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 33T 48DP is a precision-engineered upgrade component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand the best performance from their 1/8 scale RC vehicles. Whether you're running an Associated RC buggy, truck, or truggy, this pinion gear delivers the exact tooth count and pitch specifications needed for optimal power transmission and acceleration control. Built to Factory Team competition standards, this is the choice of serious RC racers across the UK who refuse to compromise on quality or reliability.

Replacing your standard pinion gear with this lightweight, hard-anodised aluminium alternative brings multiple advantages to your RC car setup. The 33-tooth configuration provides a mid-range gearing option that balances acceleration with top-end speed, making it ideal for racing applications where both control and power delivery matter. This is a genuine Associated component, not an aftermarket copy, meaning it has been engineered and tested to work perfectly with your Associated RC vehicle's motor and drivetrain.

Available now in UK stock at RC Model Shop, this pinion gear is ready to ship and install immediately. Whether you're preparing for a race day at your local RC track, replacing a worn gear, or fine-tuning your gearing setup for a specific driving style, this 33T pinion is the genuine part you need.

Key Features

  • Factory Team Competition Specification — This is an official Associated Factory Team hop-up component, engineered to the same standards used in factory racing teams, ensuring you are getting proven performance rather than generic aftermarket parts.
  • Premium 7075-T6 Aluminium Construction — The pinion is machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminium alloy, which provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and resists wear better than standard steel gears, extending the life of your drivetrain.
  • Hard Anodised Finish for Long Life — The hard-anodising process creates a protective oxide layer on the aluminium surface that dramatically increases wear resistance, meaning your pinion gear will maintain sharp tooth profiles for longer than standard alternatives and require less frequent replacement.
  • Precise 33-Tooth, 48-Pitch Specification — The 33T tooth count at 48 pitch (48DP) provides the exact gearing ratio required for compatible 1/8 scale Associated RC vehicles, ensuring smooth meshing with your spur gear and consistent power delivery without slipping or binding.
  • 1/8 Inch Shaft Diameter — The 3.2mm (1/8 inch) shaft bore is the standard specification for many 1/8 scale RC car motors, providing a secure fit on your motor shaft without modification.
  • Two Set-Screw Holes for Secure Mounting — Dual set-screw mounting points ensure the pinion gear stays firmly fixed to your motor shaft during acceleration, braking, and hard cornering, preventing any slipping that could cause loss of power or control.
  • Laser-Etched Tooth Count for Quick Identification — The tooth count is precision laser-etched directly onto the gear face, making it instantly clear what you are holding and preventing mix-ups when you have multiple pinion gears in your spare parts box.
  • Weight-Reduction Holes on Larger Sizes — As this is a 33T gear (size 30 and larger), it features strategically positioned weight-reduction holes that shave grams off your RC car's rotating mass, improving acceleration response and reducing inertia without compromising structural strength.

Technical Performance

The Associated Factory Team Aluminium Pinion Gear 33T 48DP represents the pinnacle of pinion gear engineering for 1/8 scale RC vehicles. The 48-pitch specification means each tooth is precisely sized to mesh perfectly with 48-pitch spur gears, a standard found across the entire Associated RC car range including the TC7.1, TC7.2, B6.1, B6.2, B6.3, B6.4, B74.1, B74.2, T6.1, T6.2, T6.4, and many other popular models. The 33-tooth configuration sits in the middle of the available range (with options from 15T to 34T available), making it suitable for general-purpose racing where you want balanced gearing that provides good acceleration without sacrificing top speed.

Machined from 7075-T6 aluminium alloy, this pinion gear combines lightweight construction with exceptional durability. The 7075-T6 aluminium is the same material specification used in aircraft components and high-performance racing applications, providing superior strength compared to standard aluminium or brass pinions. The hard-anodising process adds a protective ceramic-like coating that resists the constant grinding friction between the pinion teeth and your spur gear, meaning this gear will maintain its tooth profile sharper for longer and deliver more efficient power transfer throughout its lifespan.

The dual set-screw design ensures that once you have tightened the pinion onto your motor shaft, it will not slip or rotate under load. This is critical in racing applications where sudden acceleration or braking forces are substantial. Weight-reduction holes strategically positioned around the gear help reduce unsprung rotating mass, which improves acceleration response and reduces the strain on your motor and ESC. For RC racers in the UK preparing for competition, this pinion gear is the genuine upgrade component you need to ensure your drivetrain performs consistently lap after lap.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Associated RC cars is this 33T pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear is designed for 1/8 scale Associated RC vehicles that use 48-pitch gears with a 1/8 inch motor shaft. This includes the TC7 series (TC7.1, TC7.2), B6 series (B6.1, B6.1D, B6.1DL, B6.2, B6.3, B6.4, B6.4D), B7 series, B74 series (B74.1, B74.2, B74.2D), T6 series (T6.1, T6.2, T6.4), RC10 series models, SC series models, DR series models, and Pro2 series trucks. Check your vehicle's documentation to confirm 48-pitch specification before purchasing.
  • How do I choose between the 33T and other tooth counts available? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your gearing ratio and therefore your acceleration and top speed. Smaller tooth counts (like 17T-24T) give faster acceleration and higher top speed but require more motor power. Larger tooth counts (like 30T-34T) give better low-end torque and smoother power delivery but lower top speed. The 33T sits in the middle range, making it suitable for general racing where you want balanced performance. If you find your current setup lacks acceleration, go larger in tooth count; if you want more speed, go smaller.
  • Why should I upgrade to an aluminium pinion gear instead of using the standard steel version? — Aluminium pinion gears offer several advantages over standard steel: they are significantly lighter, which improves acceleration response and reduces rotational mass on your motor; the hard-anodised finish provides superior wear resistance, meaning the teeth stay sharper longer and require less frequent replacement; and the precision machining from 7075-T6 aluminium ensures exact tooth profiles for smoother meshing with your spur gear. For competitive RC racing in the UK, upgrading to Factory Team aluminium components is a recognised way to gain marginal performance improvements across your entire drivetrain.
  • What is the difference between 48DP (48-pitch) and other pitch specifications? — DP stands for diametral pitch and refers to the size of the teeth. 48DP gears have smaller, finer teeth compared to lower-pitch gears like 32DP or 16DP. Smaller pitch (higher DP number) means finer tooth profiles, which allows for smoother power transmission and quieter operation, but they are slightly more delicate. 48DP is the standard for modern 1/8 scale Associated RC cars because it offers the best balance of efficiency, durability, and smoothness. Using a 48DP pinion with a non-48DP spur gear will result in poor meshing and potential damage, so always confirm both gears match in pitch.
  • How do I install this pinion gear onto my motor? — First, remove your motor from the vehicle. Loosen the set screws on the pinion gear you are replacing. Slide the old pinion off the motor shaft. Clean the motor shaft to remove any dirt or debris. Slide your new Associated 33T pinion gear onto the motor shaft, ensuring it sits fully home. Align one set-screw hole with the motor shaft flat (if your shaft has a flat), and tighten both set screws firmly with an appropriately sized hex wrench. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the aluminium. Reinstall the motor and check that the pinion meshes smoothly with your spur gear with approximately 1mm of clearance between the teeth.
  • Is this a genuine Associated part or a copy? — Yes, this is a genuine Associated Factory Team component with the official part number 1351. It is manufactured by Associated Electrics and carries the full manufacturer's specification. You can verify authenticity by checking the part number against the official Associated website. Buying genuine Associated components from authorised UK retailers like RC Model Shop ensures you receive the exact performance and durability you expect.
  • What warranty does this pinion gear come with? — As a genuine Associated Factory Team component purchased from an authorised UK retailer, this pinion gear is covered under the standard Associated warranty against manufacturing defects. Warranty does not cover wear from normal use, damage from impacts or crashes, or poor maintenance. For detailed warranty information, contact RC Model Shop directly.
