Technical Performance
The RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja Pro X 4.19 1.7 Scale Tyres represent a significant engineering achievement in scale RC tyre development. The advanced X2S³ compound has been formulated through rigorous testing to balance multiple performance requirements simultaneously – it must deliver genuine grip characteristics on varied terrain types whilst maintaining the scale proportions and visual authenticity that serious RC enthusiasts demand. The 4.19-inch outer diameter positions these tyres perfectly within the 1.7-inch wheel ecosystem, providing a sidewall-to-diameter ratio that accurately represents full-size offroad tyre proportions. The 1.61-inch width ensures adequate footprint for traction whilst maintaining the visual proportion that defines scale authenticity. Each tyre, weighing just 74.5 grams, contributes to overall vehicle performance without excessive unsprung mass that would compromise suspension articulation or dynamic handling characteristics crucial in technical crawling scenarios. The foam inserts work in concert with the tyre construction to maintain structural integrity during aggressive steering inputs and side-load situations commonly encountered in rock crawling and trail running. These tyres are engineered to work optimally with RC4WD's own wheel systems, including compatibility with popular options like the RC4WD Walker Evans 501 Legend 1.7 Beadlock Wheels. Whilst the manufacturer imagery demonstrates installation on 1.9-inch wheels with minimal stretching, RC4WD explicitly confirms this does not damage the tyre, though 1.7-inch wheel fitment remains the primary design specification. The realistic tread pattern has been engineered not merely for appearance but to provide functional grip characteristics that translate real tyre technology into the RC scale.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What scale are the RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja Pro X tyres? — These are 1.7-inch scale tyres with a 4.19-inch outer diameter, designed specifically for 1.7-inch wheels. They fit within the 1.7 wheel ecosystem and represent the proportion and scale appropriate for dedicated scale crawlers and trail trucks. If you're new to scale RC tyres in the UK, the 1.7-inch specification is a popular midpoint between smaller 1.55-inch and larger 1.9-inch options.
- Will these tyres fit my existing RC wheels? — These tyres are engineered to fit RC4WD's 1.7-inch wheels perfectly. The manufacturer specifically recommends the RC4WD Walker Evans 501 Legend 1.7 Beadlock Wheels. Whilst the tyres can be installed on 1.9-inch wheels with minimal stretching without damage, RC4WD cannot guarantee fitment with other manufacturers' wheels due to varying design methodologies. If you're building an RC crawler or trail truck in the UK and already have wheels, verify they are genuine 1.7-inch RC4WD wheels before purchasing.
- What is the X2S³ compound and why does it matter? — The X2S³ is RC4WD's advanced proprietary rubber compound developed specifically for scale RC tyres. It delivers superior grip characteristics compared to basic rubber formulations whilst maintaining the scale proportions and realism that serious builders demand. The compound performs consistently across varied terrain types, whether you're running rocky technical terrain, sand, or mixed surfaces during trail and crawler sessions.
- Can I use one set of tyres for a complete RC truck? — No, this package contains two tyres, which is enough for one axle (front or rear). For a complete four-wheel RC truck, you will need to purchase two sets of these tyres. Many UK RC enthusiasts purchase them in pairs to ensure all four wheels match perfectly, creating a cohesive, professionally built appearance.
- Are these tyres suitable for beginners? — These tyres are best suited for intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts who already own compatible 1.7-inch wheels and RC crawler or trail platforms. If you're new to RC in the UK, consider starting with a complete ready-to-run crawler kit that includes wheels and tyres, then upgrade to these Mickey Thompson Baja Pro X tyres as your skills and commitment to the hobby progress. The official licensing and scale authenticity are primarily appreciated by experienced builders who understand scale principles.
- What makes these tyres different from standard RC tyres? — The official Mickey Thompson licensing is the primary differentiator. These are the only RC-scaled versions of the genuine Baja Pro X tyre approved by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels. The realistic tread pattern, advanced X2S³ compound, and precise engineering make them significantly more capable than budget tyre options. They're designed as a complete system with RC4WD wheels, whereas generic RC tyres prioritise cost over performance and authenticity.
- Do these tyres require any special maintenance? — Like all RC tyres, the Baja Pro X benefit from occasional cleaning after muddy or dusty sessions. The foam inserts help maintain tyre shape between uses. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight to prevent compound degradation. These tyres will last significantly longer if used on RC4WD wheels with proper maintenance.
- Can I use these on a rock crawler or trail crawler? — Yes, these tyres are specifically engineered for scale trail and crawler builds. The advanced grip, realistic tread, and lightweight construction make them ideal for technical terrain, obstacle courses, and challenging crawler scenarios that UK RC enthusiasts encounter.
