Key Features

  • OEM Quality Construction — This horizontal stabiliser is manufactured to the exact specifications of the original equipment, ensuring perfect fit and flight characteristics that match the designer's intentions for your Critical Mass aircraft.
  • Precision Aerodynamic Design — The stabiliser is engineered with careful attention to aerodynamic principles, providing the lift and trim characteristics necessary for stable, controlled flight across the full range of airspeeds your aircraft will experience.
  • Compatible with Critical Mass Aircraft — This part is specifically designed for the ROC HOBBY Critical Mass range, guaranteeing mechanical compatibility and aerodynamic balance with your aircraft's fuselage and main wing assembly.
  • Direct Replacement Part — Whether your existing stabiliser has been damaged in a crash, warped from storage, or simply needs replacement due to wear, this component installs directly without modification or adjustment to other aircraft systems.
  • Essential for Flight Performance — The horizontal stabiliser works in concert with your elevator control surface to manage pitch attitude and maintain level flight, making it absolutely critical to safe, predictable aircraft handling.

Technical Performance

The horizontal stabiliser plays a fundamental role in RC aircraft stability and control, acting as the tail surface that counteracts pitch forces generated by the main wing and fuselage. This component must be manufactured to precise specifications to ensure the aircraft sits at the correct centre of gravity and responds properly to elevator inputs from your radio transmitter. The Critical Mass horizontal stabiliser is engineered using materials and construction techniques proven across the FMS and ROC HOBBY aircraft range, which includes everything from compact 980mm competition models to larger touring aircraft. The stabiliser works alongside your elevator servo to manage aircraft pitch, making it essential for smooth, stable flight characteristics that respond predictably to your control inputs. Whether you're flying at low speeds during approach and landing or pushing for speed during cross-country flights, the horizontal stabiliser must maintain its aerodynamic shape and structural integrity. This replacement part ensures your aircraft maintains the performance characteristics specified by the designer, restoring full flight control authority and stability if your original component has been damaged or degraded.

What's in the Box

  • ROC HOBBY CRITICAL MASS Horizontal Stabiliser assembly

What You Need to Complete

  • Servo compatible with your aircraft's control linkage system (typically a 9g digital metal gear servo)
  • Linkage rods or push rods connecting the stabiliser to your elevator servo
  • Adhesive suitable for aircraft assembly (if stabiliser requires bonding rather than mechanical fastening)
  • Fasteners appropriate to your aircraft design (screws or rivets as specified in your aircraft manual)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a horizontal stabiliser and why is it important for my RC aircraft? — The horizontal stabiliser is the tail surface that provides pitch stability and control authority for your RC plane. It works with the elevator control surface to manage the aircraft's nose-up and nose-down attitude. Without a properly functioning stabiliser, your aircraft will be difficult to control and potentially unsafe to fly. This replacement ensures your Critical Mass aircraft maintains the aerodynamic balance and control response the designer intended.
  • Is this the correct part for my Critical Mass aircraft? — Yes, this ROC-KT103 horizontal stabiliser is specifically manufactured for ROC HOBBY Critical Mass aircraft. Before ordering, please verify that your aircraft is indeed a Critical Mass model by checking your aircraft documentation or contacting RC Model Shop for confirmation if you're unsure.
  • How difficult is it to install the horizontal stabiliser? — Installation difficulty depends on your aircraft's construction method. Some aircraft use mechanical fasteners (screws) making installation straightforward, whilst others may require bonding with adhesive, which requires careful alignment and curing time. Consult your aircraft's assembly manual for specific installation instructions. If you're unsure about installation, RC Model Shop's team of experienced RC enthusiasts can advise you on the process.
  • Will this improve my aircraft's flight characteristics? — If you're replacing a damaged, warped, or degraded stabiliser, installation of this genuine OEM part will restore your aircraft to its design specifications. You'll notice improved stability and more predictable control response. If your current stabiliser is in good condition, installing this part won't provide additional improvement, but having it as a spare is essential for any serious RC pilot in the UK.
  • What should I do if my current stabiliser is damaged? — Minor damage can sometimes be repaired using adhesive and reinforcement techniques, but this requires careful work to maintain aerodynamic shape. For significant damage or warping, replacement is the safer option to ensure your aircraft flies safely and predictably. The ROC-KT103 gives you a cost-effective path back to flying your Critical Mass aircraft.
  • Can I use this with other RC aircraft? — No, the horizontal stabiliser is specifically designed for Critical Mass aircraft and is not compatible with other RC aircraft models. Using incorrect parts could result in poor flight characteristics and potential safety issues. Always ensure you're ordering parts that match your specific aircraft model.
