Overview

The ROC Hobby Atlas 1:10 11036 Oil Shock Absorbers Assembly represents a premium suspension upgrade for serious RC enthusiasts looking to enhance their 1:10 scale crawler's off-road performance. These high-quality oil-damped shock absorbers are engineered to deliver smooth, controlled suspension travel across challenging terrain, making them an essential component for anyone wanting to improve their RC car's handling characteristics. Whether you're tackling rocky trails, sandy dunes, or technical rock crawling courses, these professional-grade shocks will transform how your Atlas 4x4 responds to obstacles and uneven ground.

If you're searching for the best RC car suspension upgrades in the UK, the Atlas oil shock absorbers offer exceptional value and reliability. These aren't just basic spare parts—they represent genuine engineering designed to reduce body roll, minimise pitch and squat during acceleration, and maintain consistent tyre contact with the ground. For weekend bashers and serious competition drivers alike, upgrading to quality oil shock absorbers is one of the most effective ways to improve your RC car's handling and durability. Many experienced RC hobbyists consider suspension components to be just as important as motor and ESC selection when building the ultimate off-road performer.

This assembly comes as a matched pair (2 pieces), allowing you to upgrade either the front or rear suspension of your Atlas 4x4, or combine with another set for a complete suspension overhaul. The oil-damped design ensures consistent performance across temperature ranges, preventing the suspension from feeling too stiff in cold weather or too soft in the heat—a crucial advantage if you're running your RC car UK during the varied seasons we experience.

Key Features

  • Oil-damped shock design — The oil-filled dampers provide progressive dampening characteristics that absorb impacts smoothly whilst maintaining ride height stability, ensuring your RC crawler maintains traction even on the roughest terrain and preventing suspension oscillation after landing jumps.
  • Matched pair assembly — You receive two shock absorbers in this pack, providing flexibility to upgrade either axle or purchase multiple sets for a complete suspension refresh, with identical specifications guaranteeing balanced handling characteristics.
  • 1:10 scale compatibility — Precisely engineered for the ROC Hobby Atlas 1:10 11036 platform, these shocks integrate seamlessly with the existing suspension geometry and mounting points, ensuring optimal performance and fitment without modification.
  • Smooth ride guarantee — The manufacturer specifically highlights that these shocks deliver smooth rides, meaning you'll experience reduced vibration transmission to the chassis and improved driver feedback through the steering, which is especially valuable during technical crawling where precision control matters.
  • Professional-grade construction — Built to the standards expected by RC car enthusiasts and competitors, these shocks utilise quality materials and manufacturing processes that resist corrosion, maintain consistent performance over extended use, and withstand the rigours of regular bashing and competition.
  • Temperature stable performance — Oil damping provides consistent characteristics across varying environmental conditions, ensuring that your suspension performs reliably whether you're running your RC car on a cold winter's day or during summer heat, with no need to recalibrate or adjust your setup.

Technical Performance

The ROC Hobby Atlas oil shock absorbers represent a significant engineering investment in suspension technology for 1:10 scale RC crawlers and trail trucks. The oil-filled damper design is fundamental to understanding why these components justify their presence in serious RC enthusiast collections. Unlike basic coilover springs, oil dampers provide velocity-sensitive dampening—meaning they respond differently to slow, controlled compression versus rapid impacts. This characteristic is absolutely critical for off-road performance, as it allows the suspension to absorb large obstacles smoothly whilst still resisting body roll during cornering. The matched pair assembly ensures that both shocks have identical damping characteristics, which is essential for maintaining balanced handling and preventing the vehicle from pulling to one side during acceleration, braking, or cornering. For the 1:10 Atlas 4x4 platform, these shocks integrate with the existing suspension geometry to optimise suspension travel and maintain consistent ride height, which directly improves tyre contact patch and traction. The professional construction quality means these components resist the corrosive effects of water, mud, and salt water exposure commonly encountered in UK outdoor RC running environments, extending service life and maintaining consistent performance throughout the season.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these oil shock absorbers suitable for beginners in RC crawling? — Absolutely. Whilst experienced competitors will appreciate the performance benefits, these shocks are equally valuable for beginners as they significantly improve the driving experience and vehicle stability. Better suspension means less frustration when learning to navigate obstacles, and the improved traction helps build confidence in challenging terrain.
  • Will these shocks fit other 1:10 RC car models besides the Atlas? — These shocks are specifically engineered for the ROC Hobby Atlas 1:10 11036 platform and integrate with its particular suspension geometry and mounting points. Fitting to other models would require verification of compatibility and likely modification, so we recommend confirming fitment before purchase if considering use on alternative platforms.
  • How do I maintain these oil shock absorbers? — Regular maintenance is straightforward: periodically check for oil leakage around the seals, clean off mud and debris after each session, and inspect the shock body for damage. If you notice reduced damping performance or visible oil loss, the seals may require replacement or the internal components may need servicing by a qualified technician.
  • What is the difference between these oil shocks and basic coil springs? — Oil shocks provide velocity-sensitive damping that adjusts to both slow and rapid suspension movements, resulting in much better handling and traction. Basic coil springs have linear damping characteristics and cannot adapt to varying impact speeds, meaning they either feel too stiff for rocky terrain or too soft for aggressive bashing—oil shocks provide the best of both worlds.
  • Do I need to replace both shocks at the same time? — Ideally yes. Matching pairs ensure identical damping characteristics front and rear, which is essential for balanced handling. If one shock is damaged, replacing just that unit with a new one could create an imbalance in suspension feel and vehicle control, particularly noticeable during cornering and acceleration.
  • Are these shocks waterproof and suitable for water crossings? — The oil-damped design provides excellent water resistance, and the sealed construction protects internal components from moisture. They're therefore suitable for water crossings and water-based RC running, though regular inspection of seals is recommended after wet conditions to ensure long-term reliability.
