Overview
The HOBAO 2.4 GHz FHSS Receiver HB-2.4R is a modern 2.4GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum receiver designed for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliable wireless control. This compact receiver module integrates into HOBAO RC cars and compatible platforms, delivering the stable, interference-free performance that serious RC racers and weekend bashers depend on. Whether you're piloting a high-speed 1/10 scale buggy, an agile 1/8 on-road car, or any HOBAO RC vehicle that requires a dedicated receiver unit, the HB-2.4R provides the connectivity and responsiveness you need for confident driving.
FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) technology ensures that your RC car UK setup maintains a rock-solid signal even in environments where multiple RC hobbyists are operating simultaneously. Unlike older analogue radio systems, modern 2.4GHz FHSS receivers like this one automatically hop across multiple frequencies to avoid interference, meaning you can race or bash alongside other drivers without worrying about loss of control or signal dropout. This makes the HB-2.4R an excellent upgrade path for owners of HOBAO RC vehicles looking to modernise their radio systems with proven, battle-tested wireless technology.
As a specialist RC retailer serving the UK market, RC Model Shop stocks the HOBAO 2.4 GHz FHSS Receiver HB-2.4R as part of our comprehensive range of receiver units and RC equipment. This receiver is engineered to work seamlessly with HOBAO transmitters and compatible systems, making it an ideal replacement or spare unit for competitive drivers, collectors, and casual enthusiasts alike. Whether you operate a ready to run RC car or a custom-built racing platform, having a reliable backup receiver ensures you can keep your RC hobby running without interruption.
Key Features
- 2.4 GHz FHSS Radio Technology — The receiver operates on the globally standardised 2.4GHz frequency band with FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) protocol, which automatically selects and switches between multiple frequencies to eliminate interference from other RC equipment, WiFi networks, and wireless devices operating nearby, ensuring your RC car UK experience remains glitch-free and responsive.
- Modern Wireless Standard — Moving away from older 27/40 MHz analogue systems, this 2.4GHz receiver brings your HOBAO RC car into the modern era of RC hobby technology, offering significantly improved range, precision, and reliability compared to outdated radio systems, which is essential for competitive racing and serious RC enthusiasts.
- Compact Design — The HB-2.4R is engineered as a drop-in receiver module that fits neatly into HOBAO RC vehicles without requiring extensive chassis modifications, making it straightforward to install into your existing setup whether you own a brushless RC buggy, nitro truggy, or any compatible HOBAO platform.
- Dedicated Receiver Unit — This is a standalone receiver component designed to pair with a compatible HOBAO 2.4GHz transmitter, giving you the flexibility to upgrade or replace your radio system independently and ensuring you always have the correct receiver frequency-matched to your transmitter for hassle-free operation.
- Proven Compatibility — The HB-2.4R integrates with the HOBAO range of RC vehicles including 1/7, 1/8, and 1/10 scale cars across multiple categories such as buggies, on-road cars, truggy vehicles, and specialist models, making it a versatile upgrade component for any HOBAO enthusiast building or maintaining their RC car collection.
Technical Performance
The HOBAO 2.4 GHz FHSS Receiver HB-2.4R represents a significant leap forward in RC radio technology for UK hobbyists. Operating on the globally-adopted 2.4GHz frequency standard with FHSS spread spectrum protocol, this receiver delivers consistent, lag-free signal transmission across competitive racing environments and casual bashing scenarios. The receiver's compact form factor allows installation into the tight confines of 1/8 and 1/10 scale RC cars without compromising internal space needed for batteries, ESCs, and servos. Build quality reflects HOBAO's engineering heritage, with the receiver engineered to withstand the vibrations, impacts, and temperature variations typical of demanding RC driving conditions. The HB-2.4R is not compatible with the HB-2.4G-V2 transmitter system, so careful verification of your existing transmitter model is essential before purchase to ensure proper pairing and function. For RC enthusiasts running brushless RC buggies, electric RC cars, or nitro-powered vehicles in the HOBAO lineup, this receiver provides the modern wireless connectivity that separates responsive, controllable setups from outdated systems prone to interference and signal loss. Whether you're competing in local UK RC racing events, practising at your local track, or enjoying casual weekend bashing sessions in fields and parks, the HB-2.4R's FHSS technology ensures predictable, interference-resistant performance that lets you focus entirely on driving rather than worrying about radio reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the HOBAO HB-2.4R receiver compatible with all HOBAO RC cars? — The HB-2.4R is designed for most HOBAO vehicles in the 1/7, 1/8, and 1/10 scale ranges, including buggies, on-road cars, and truggy models. However, it is explicitly not compatible with the HB-2.4G-V2 transmitter system, so you must verify that your transmitter is not the V2 variant before purchasing this receiver to ensure proper operation and signal binding.
- What is FHSS technology and why does it matter for RC cars? — FHSS stands for Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum, a sophisticated radio protocol where the receiver and transmitter continuously switch between multiple frequencies within the 2.4GHz band many times per second. This automatic frequency-hopping prevents interference from other 2.4GHz devices such as WiFi networks, cordless phones, and other RC car users operating nearby, delivering the stable, lag-free control signal that UK RC racers and bashers demand.
- Can I use this receiver as a spare or backup for my HOBAO RC car? — Yes, the HB-2.4R makes an excellent spare or backup receiver for HOBAO vehicle owners who participate in regular track sessions or competitive racing where radio system reliability is paramount. Having a matched spare receiver ensures you can continue racing or bashing even if your primary receiver develops a fault, and the receiver's affordability makes it sensible insurance against unexpected equipment failure.
- What is the difference between this HB-2.4R and the newer HB-2.4R-V2 model? — Both receivers operate on 2.4GHz FHSS technology and are priced identically at £26.40. The V2 represents a newer generation of the same receiver platform. The primary compatibility consideration is with transmitters: the HB-2.4R is not compatible with the HB-2.4G-V2 transmitter, whereas the HB-2.4R-V2 receiver would be paired with its corresponding V2 transmitter. Choose whichever matches your transmitter model to ensure proper binding and operation.
- Do I need any additional electronics or installation components? — The receiver itself is just one component of your RC car's radio system. You will need a compatible HOBAO 2.4GHz transmitter to bind and control the receiver, plus servo(s) for steering and throttle, an ESC (electronic speed controller), a motor, and a LiPo battery pack appropriate to your vehicle's specifications. Installation typically involves connecting the receiver to your servos and ESC via standard servo connectors, making the process straightforward for anyone with basic RC car assembly experience.
- Is this receiver suitable for beginners to the RC hobby? — The HB-2.4R is primarily a replacement or spare receiver component rather than an entry-level product, so it is most suitable for users who already own or are building a HOBAO RC vehicle and understand basic RC car assembly and operation. Beginners should start with a complete ready to run RC car package that includes a matched transmitter and receiver, rather than purchasing individual receiver units. However, once you gain experience with RC cars, the HB-2.4R represents an affordable way to add a backup receiver or upgrade an older HOBAO vehicle to modern 2.4GHz technology.
