Key Features
- Premium Aluminium Alloy Construction — This steering mount is machined from high-grade aluminium alloy, providing exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, superior durability compared to plastic components, and the authentic scale appearance favoured by serious crawler builders and competitors.
- Portal Axle System Component — Designed as part of FTX's comprehensive portal axle conversion system, this steering mount works in conjunction with related portal components to deliver enhanced steering geometry and improved vehicle dynamics for technical rock crawling.
- Left-Hand Specification — This is the left-hand version of the steering mount, allowing for symmetrical portal axle installation when paired with the right-hand equivalent component, essential for proper steering linkage configuration.
- Integrated Protective Cover — The mount includes a protective cover that shields the steering mechanism from dust, mud, and debris during intense off-road use, extending component lifespan and maintaining smooth steering response in challenging conditions.
- Precision Engineering — FTX's reputation for precision manufacturing is evident in this component's tight tolerances and exact fitment to OEM specifications, ensuring trouble-free installation and reliable long-term performance.
- Improved Centre of Gravity — When installed as part of the portal axle conversion system, this steering mount contributes to lowering the overall centre of gravity of your rock crawler, improving stability and handling on technical terrain.
- Authentic Scale Appearance — Portal axles are a highly desirable scale feature for serious rock crawler builds, and this aluminium mount delivers the authentic appearance that dedicated crawler enthusiasts demand.
Technical Performance
This steering mount is engineered from aluminium alloy with precision machining to ensure perfect fitment and durability. The component is part of FTX's portal axle conversion system, a comprehensive upgrade package designed specifically for 1/10 scale FTX Outback Fury and Hi-Rock 4x4 crawlers. The portal axle system is a recognised upgrade pathway for serious RC crawler enthusiasts in the UK, delivering benefits including improved ground clearance, enhanced weight distribution, and superior scale authenticity. The alloy construction ensures that weight is kept low whilst strength is maximised—critical factors in rock crawling performance. The integrated protective cover safeguards the steering mechanism against the harsh conditions encountered during trail crawling, including mud splash, water ingress, and abrasive rock contact. Installation is straightforward for users with basic RC mechanical knowledge, though it forms part of a larger conversion system that may require careful alignment and calibration to ensure optimal steering performance. The mount integrates with standard RC steering linkage systems and servo components, maintaining compatibility with existing FTX platform specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this steering mount suitable for beginners to RC crawlers? — This component is best suited to intermediate and advanced RC enthusiasts who understand rock crawler mechanics and upgrade systems. Beginners should start with a ready-to-run FTX Outback or Hi-Rock before attempting portal axle conversions. However, if you're upgrading an existing crawler, this component is straightforward to install if you follow FTX's assembly documentation carefully.
- What is the purpose of the portal axle conversion system? — The portal axle system elevates the motor and differential away from the axle centreline, providing genuine scale authenticity, improved ground clearance, and lower centre of gravity. This benefits both the visual appearance of your crawler and its handling characteristics on technical terrain. Serious UK RC crawler competitors and scale enthusiasts invest in portal systems to achieve showroom-quality scale realism.
- Can I use this steering mount on other FTX models? — This component is specifically designed for the FTX Outback Fury and FTX Hi-Rock 4x4 RTR crawlers. Fitment on other FTX models is not recommended without verification against official FTX compatibility documentation.
- How does the integrated protective cover benefit performance? — The cover shields the steering mount's internal mechanisms from mud, water, and debris. During extended trail crawling sessions, this protection extends the lifespan of your steering components and maintains consistent steering response without binding or corrosion.
- What tools are needed to install this steering mount? — Standard RC hex keys, screwdrivers, and a basic socket set are typically required. Servo linkage tools and specialised RC assembly fixtures may be helpful for ensuring precise alignment. FTX provides assembly diagrams with their portal axle conversion kits.
- Is this a left or right-hand component? — This is the left-hand version (marked as L in the product code). You will need both left and right-hand units for symmetrical portal axle installation, creating properly balanced steering geometry.
- Where can I find assembly documentation for the portal system? — FTX provides comprehensive assembly guides with portal axle conversion kits. RC Model Shop can also advise on installation; contact our team for detailed assembly support.
