Overview
The FTX Mauler Transmission Gear Set (20T, 28T, 53T) FTX8759 is an essential replacement or upgrade component for owners of the FTX Mauler 2.0 4x4 Rock Crawler. This precision-engineered drivetrain spare part is designed to deliver reliable performance and smooth power delivery through the transmission system of your RC crawler. Whether you're a seasoned RC enthusiast running competitive rock crawling events across the UK or a weekend basher exploring challenging terrain, having quality transmission gears ensures your vehicle maintains optimal performance and responsiveness on the trail.
Rock crawling demands precision engineering, and the FTX Mauler transmission gear set represents the manufacturer's commitment to durability and performance. The three-gear configuration (20-tooth pinion, 28-tooth intermediate, and 53-tooth spur gear) creates a balanced gear ratio system that optimises torque delivery whilst maintaining control and traction in demanding off-road conditions. This transmission spare is perfect for those who want to maintain their FTX Mauler 2.0 at peak performance or replace worn components after extensive use on rocky terrain.
Available exclusively for the FTX5575R2 and FTX5575Y2 Mauler 2.0 models, this genuine FTX component ensures perfect compatibility and reliable operation. RC Model Shop stocks this product as part of our comprehensive range of FTX spares and upgrades, making it easy for UK-based RC enthusiasts to source the exact parts they need to keep their vehicles running smoothly.
Key Features
- 20-Tooth Pinion Gear — The pinion gear is the primary drive gear that transfers power from the motor to the transmission. A 20-tooth pinion provides the right balance between acceleration and top-end performance for rock crawling applications where controlled torque delivery is essential for navigating technical terrain.
- 28-Tooth Intermediate Gear — This mid-range gear step creates the secondary gear ratio in the transmission system. The 28-tooth configuration ensures smooth power transfer between the pinion and spur gears, improving reliability and reducing wear on the drivetrain during extended crawling sessions.
- 53-Tooth Spur Gear — The spur gear is the main gear that drives the vehicle's wheels through the differential. With a 53-tooth design, this component delivers strong torque multiplication for climbing obstacles and powering through loose terrain, which is essential for rock crawlers tackling challenging UK trails.
- Complete Gear Set — By purchasing this full transmission gear set, you receive all three critical gears needed for complete drivetrain operation, eliminating the need to source individual components and ensuring perfect matching and compatibility.
- Genuine FTX Component — Manufactured by FTX, this is an authentic spare part designed and tested specifically for the Mauler 2.0 platform, guaranteeing correct fitment, durability and performance that matches the original equipment.
- Easy Replacement — These gears are designed for straightforward replacement, allowing experienced RC enthusiasts to maintain their crawlers without requiring specialised tools or expertise, making it ideal for those who like to service their own equipment.
Technical Performance
The FTX Mauler Transmission Gear Set represents precision manufacturing designed to handle the demanding requirements of 1/10 scale rock crawling. The three-gear configuration delivers optimised power delivery for a vehicle engineered specifically for crawling performance rather than maximum speed. The 20-tooth pinion, 28-tooth intermediate, and 53-tooth spur gear combination creates a gear ratio system that prioritises torque and control — essential characteristics for navigating technical terrain, climbing vertical obstacles, and maintaining traction on loose surfaces. The materials and construction quality of these gears determine how effectively power is transferred from the motor to the wheels whilst minimising friction and heat generation. For rock crawlers, which operate at lower speeds but require substantial pushing force to overcome obstacles, this gear configuration is critical to performance. The transmission gear set works in conjunction with the Mauler 2.0's other drivetrain components, and maintaining these gears in good condition ensures consistent performance whether you're competing in organised crawling events or enjoying casual off-road adventures on UK terrain.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which FTX Mauler models is this transmission gear set compatible with? — This FTX8759 transmission gear set is specifically designed for the FTX Mauler 2.0 4x4 Rock Crawler and is confirmed compatible with both the FTX5575R2 (red version) and FTX5575Y2 (yellow version) models. If you own a different FTX model or an original Mauler variant, you should verify compatibility before purchasing.
- Do I need to replace all three gears at once, or can I replace individual gears? — Whilst this set includes all three gears, you can technically replace individual gears if only one is damaged. However, for optimal performance and longevity, FTX recommends replacing the complete gear set together to ensure balanced wear characteristics and consistent performance across the entire drivetrain.
- What tools do I need to replace the transmission gears? — Replacing transmission gears requires basic RC tool knowledge and typically involves removing the transmission housing to access the gears. You'll need hex keys and possibly gear pullers depending on how firmly the gears are seated. Refer to your Mauler 2.0 manual for detailed instructions, or consult with experienced RC enthusiasts at RC Model Shop for guidance.
- How often should I replace my transmission gears? — Transmission gear lifespan depends entirely on how frequently you use your Mauler 2.0 and the terrain conditions. Regular crawling use on rocky terrain will cause gradual wear. If you notice grinding noises, slipping during acceleration, or reduced climbing power, it's time to inspect your gears. Keeping your drivetrain clean and properly lubricated extends gear life significantly.
- What is the purpose of having three different sized gears in the transmission? — The three gears work together to create the transmission's final gear ratio. The pinion (20T) receives direct motor power, transfers to the intermediate gear (28T), which then drives the spur gear (53T) that powers the wheels. This multi-stage system allows the transmission designer to achieve specific performance characteristics — in the Mauler's case, optimised torque for crawling rather than speed.
- Is this suitable for rock crawling beginners? — Transmission gears are replacement parts rather than complete systems, so they're designed for owners who already have a Mauler 2.0 and need to maintain it. If you're new to RC crawling, purchasing a complete ready-to-run Mauler 2.0 is the right starting point; you can then use this spare set for future maintenance.
