Technical Performance
The FTX Outback Centre Linkage is a precision-engineered steering component designed specifically for the FTX Outback crawler range. As a centre linkage assembly, it serves the critical function of connecting your steering servo to the front axle, translating the servo's rotational movement into lateral steering input that controls your vehicle's direction. This component is manufactured to exact FTX specifications, ensuring it integrates seamlessly with your Outback series vehicle's existing suspension and steering geometry. The linkage must be able to withstand continuous steering inputs during both gentle manoeuvring and aggressive off-road driving, maintaining its structural integrity through rock crawling sessions, competitive terrain courses, and recreational bashing. Quality materials and precise engineering ensure the centre linkage delivers consistent, reliable steering response without play or unwanted movement. For RC crawler enthusiasts in the UK, maintaining or replacing your centre linkage as part of regular vehicle maintenance ensures your steering system remains tight and responsive, critical for navigating challenging terrain and maintaining control during technical driving.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a centre linkage and why is it important for my FTX Outback RC crawler? — The centre linkage is the mechanical link between your steering servo and your vehicle's front axle. It's responsible for converting the servo's movement into steering input, allowing your RC crawler to turn left and right. Without a functioning centre linkage, your vehicle cannot steer properly, making this component essential for safe and controlled operation on any terrain.
- How do I know if my centre linkage needs replacing? — Signs that your centre linkage requires replacement include loose or unresponsive steering, visible cracks or breaks in the linkage assembly, excessive play when you manually move the steering components, or steering that feels sloppy and imprecise. If you've experienced a significant impact or crash, inspect the centre linkage for damage as it may have absorbed impact forces.
- Will this FTX8159 centre linkage fit my FTX Outback model? — This is a genuine FTX spare part designed for the Outback series. FTX manufactures many models in the Outback range, so we recommend checking your vehicle's specific model designation before ordering. If you're uncertain which Outback model you own, our RC Model Shop team can help you identify the correct part for your vehicle.
- Is this suitable for both rock crawling and recreational bashing? — Yes, the FTX Outback Centre Linkage is engineered to handle both competitive rock crawling and casual weekend bashing. Its durable construction withstands the demands of technical terrain driving and the consistent impacts of recreational off-road use, making it suitable for any FTX Outback enthusiast regardless of driving style.
- How often should I inspect my centre linkage? — We recommend inspecting your steering linkages regularly as part of your RC vehicle maintenance routine, especially after intense driving sessions or crashes. Check for cracks, breaks, and excessive play. Regular maintenance and inspection help prevent mid-drive failures and keep your steering precise and responsive.
