Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a linkage rod and why is it important for my RC jet? — A linkage rod is the mechanical component that connects your servo motor to the aircraft's control surfaces (such as elevators, rudders, and ailerons). It's absolutely critical because it translates the servo's rotational movement into precise control surface deflection. A properly functioning linkage rod ensures your control inputs are transmitted accurately and reliably to the aircraft, directly affecting your ability to manoeuvre and control the jet smoothly. If your linkage rod becomes bent, worn, or damaged, you'll experience sluggish or unresponsive controls, which can compromise flight safety.
- Is this a genuine FMS part or a generic replacement? — This is a genuine OEM FMS component manufactured to the exact specifications required for the 64mm Rafale EDF Jet. Using genuine parts ensures perfect compatibility and the same quality standards that FMS applies to all its aircraft components. Genuine parts maintain your model's performance characteristics and resale value.
- Do I need any tools or special knowledge to install this linkage rod? — Installation of a linkage rod is a straightforward task that most RC plane builders and experienced pilots can handle with basic hobby tools. You'll typically need a small screwdriver and possibly a hex wrench to disconnect the old rod and attach the new one to your servo and control surface. If you're unfamiliar with the installation process, FMS provides manuals with detailed instructions, or you can consult with experienced RC flyers at your local club.
- How often should I replace my linkage rod? — Linkage rods typically have a very long service life if they're properly maintained. You should replace yours if you notice bending, cracks, stripped threads, or excessive play in the connection points. Regular inspection before each flying session will help you catch problems early. Having a spare on hand ensures you're never grounded due to a damaged linkage rod.
- What makes the 64mm size specifically important for the Rafale? — The 64mm length is engineered specifically for the Rafale's servo positioning and control surface architecture. This length ensures the correct control throw distances, which affects how much the control surfaces move for a given servo input. Using the correct size maintains the aircraft's designed control response and handling characteristics. Using an incorrectly sized linkage rod could result in over-sensitive or sluggish controls.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Replacement and maintenance of RC aircraft components is suitable for builders and pilots of all experience levels. Whilst beginners might want guidance from experienced RC community members or club instructors, the replacement process is straightforward. This is an essential component for anyone flying the 64mm Rafale EDF Jet.
