Overview

The FMS Integral Vertical Stabilizer in striking red is an essential component for RC aircraft builders and enthusiasts across the UK looking to enhance their model's stability and aerodynamic performance. This 80mm integral vertical stabilizer combines functional precision engineering with eye-catching colour options, making it an ideal choice for both experienced RC pilots and those new to the hobby of RC model flying. Whether you're building a custom RC plane from scratch, upgrading an existing airframe, or replacing a damaged component, this vertical stabilizer delivers the reliability and performance that FMS is recognised for in the RC aviation community.

Designed with the modern RC aircraft builder in mind, this integral vertical stabilizer serves as both a structural and aerodynamic element of your aircraft. The vertical stabiliser (or fin) is crucial for maintaining directional stability in flight, preventing unwanted yaw movements and ensuring your RC plane responds predictably to control inputs. The 80mm size makes it suitable for a wide range of RC aircraft designs, from trainer models to more advanced performance builds. Available in both red and blue colour variants, you can choose the finish that best matches your aircraft's overall aesthetic or use multiple colours to create striking two-tone designs.

RC Model Shop is your trusted UK partner for quality RC aircraft components and complete builds. We stock an extensive range of FMS products, including airframes, motors, electronics, and replacement parts like this vertical stabilizer. Whether you're a weekend flyer, a competitive RC pilot, or someone just discovering the excitement of RC aircraft flying, our expert team can help you select the right components for your project and provide ongoing technical support to ensure your builds succeed.

Key Features

  • 80mm Size — The 80mm dimension is optimised for compatibility with a wide range of RC aircraft designs, providing excellent proportional balance between stability enhancement and weight minimisation, which is critical for achieving optimal flight performance in RC planes.
  • Integral Design — This vertical stabilizer features an integral construction method, meaning it's designed to be seamlessly incorporated into your aircraft's fuselage as a unified structural component rather than as a separate bolt-on addition, improving overall airframe rigidity and reducing assembly complexity.
  • Bold Red Colour — The vibrant red finish not only enhances the visual appeal of your RC aircraft but also improves visibility during flight, making it easier to track your model's orientation and position in the sky, which is particularly valuable during outdoor flying sessions.
  • FMS Quality Engineering — Manufactured by FMS Hobby, a recognised leader in RC aircraft components and kits, this stabilizer is built to exacting standards using quality materials that ensure consistent performance across numerous flight cycles without degradation.
  • Aerodynamic Precision — The stabilizer's profile has been engineered to provide optimal aerodynamic characteristics, reducing parasitic drag whilst maintaining the directional stability your aircraft requires for controlled, predictable flight behaviour.

Technical Performance

The FMS Integral Vertical Stabilizer represents quality engineering in RC aircraft construction. At 80mm in length, this component is dimensioned to work effectively across a broad spectrum of RC aircraft scales and designs, from small trainers to larger performance models. The integral design approach means this stabilizer is not simply bolted onto your airframe but rather integrated as a core structural element, contributing to overall fuselage strength and rigidity. This construction method reduces the number of connection points required, which in turn minimises potential failure points and improves the aircraft's structural integrity during flight operations. The vertical stabilizer works in conjunction with your rudder control surface to manage yaw axis stability, preventing unwanted rotation about the vertical axis and ensuring your RC plane maintains its intended heading. The red colour finish is applied with durability in mind, resisting UV fading and minor scuffs that occur during normal handling and outdoor flying. When properly installed and balanced as part of a complete aircraft build, this stabilizer contributes significantly to predictable handling characteristics, making your RC flying experience more enjoyable and safer for both the aircraft and surrounding areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size aircraft is the FMS 80mm vertical stabilizer suitable for? — The 80mm dimension makes this stabilizer compatible with a wide range of RC aircraft designs. It works effectively on trainer-class models, intermediate performance planes, and various custom builds. The specific suitability depends on your aircraft's overall size and weight distribution, so we recommend consulting your aircraft plans or contacting our team at RC Model Shop for guidance if you're uncertain about compatibility with your particular model.
  • How does a vertical stabilizer improve my RC aircraft's performance? — The vertical stabilizer (or fin) provides directional stability by resisting yaw movements caused by wind gusts, control input overshoots, or aerodynamic imbalances. Without adequate vertical stabilizer area, your RC plane may experience hunting (oscillating left and right), difficulty maintaining a straight heading, or unpredictable response to rudder inputs. This 80mm integral stabilizer helps eliminate these issues, resulting in more stable, predictable, and enjoyable flight characteristics.
  • What is the difference between integral and bolt-on vertical stabilizers? — An integral stabilizer is designed to be built as part of your aircraft's fuselage structure during assembly, contributing to overall airframe strength and rigidity. Bolt-on stabilizers are separate components attached after the main airframe is complete. Integral designs typically offer better structural integrity, reduced assembly time, and more professional results because there are fewer connection points and potential failure modes.
  • Is this suitable for beginner RC aircraft builders? — Yes, absolutely. The FMS vertical stabilizer is an excellent choice for builders at any experience level. If you're following published RC aircraft plans or a kit that specifies an 80mm integral vertical stabilizer, this component will integrate seamlessly into your build. Our team at RC Model Shop is always happy to provide guidance if you're new to RC aircraft construction.
  • Can I use this stabilizer on different aircraft? — The 80mm size is versatile enough to work on multiple aircraft designs, though exact compatibility depends on your specific airframe plans. Some builders purchase multiple stabilizers in different colours to build an entire fleet of models. We recommend checking your aircraft plans or consulting with our experts to ensure proper fit and proportion for your particular project.
  • How do I install the vertical stabilizer? — Installation method depends on your specific aircraft design and plans. Typically, integral stabilizers are incorporated into the fuselage structure during construction, often formed as part of the tail boom or fuselage rear section. Always follow the detailed instructions provided with your aircraft plans or kit. Our team can offer guidance if you have questions about your specific build.
