Overview

The FMS Ball Bearing 8*16*5 (FMS-C3801) is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC hobbyists maintaining their vehicles. Whether you're running an FMS Colorado or updating bearings on other RC cars and trucks, this precision ball bearing delivers the reliability and smooth performance that serious RC enthusiasts demand. Ball bearings are critical to the smooth operation of any RC vehicle, reducing friction in axles, motors and drivetrain components, which directly translates to better efficiency, longer runtime and improved handling characteristics on the track or trail.

This bearing is designed to meet the exacting standards of the RC community, offering durability and precision engineering that keeps your RC car UK setup running at peak performance. Whether you're a weekend basher, a competitive racer, or simply maintaining your existing RC vehicle collection, having quality replacement bearings on hand is essential. The 8*16*5 specification makes this bearing compatible with a wide range of FMS models and many other RC applications, making it a versatile addition to any RC technician's spare parts box.

At RC Model Shop, we understand the importance of genuine OEM parts when it comes to maintaining your RC vehicles. This FMS ball bearing represents the quality and authenticity you can expect from an authorised FMS retailer, ensuring your investment in RC hobby equipment is protected with genuine components that will perform as intended.

Key Features

  • 8*16*5 Bore and Outer Diameter Specification — This bearing dimension (8mm inner bore, 16mm outer diameter, 5mm width) is a standard size used across numerous FMS RC models and many other brands, making it a genuinely versatile spare part for your RC collection. Having the correct bearing size ensures proper fit, eliminating play and vibration that could affect steering, acceleration and overall vehicle responsiveness.
  • Precision Ball Bearing Construction — Ball bearings feature multiple precision-manufactured steel balls that roll within a smooth raceway, creating minimal friction compared to bushings. This engineering approach means your RC car maintains better speed, improved battery efficiency and smoother power delivery across acceleration ranges, which is particularly noticeable in competitive racing applications.
  • FMS OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer Component — As a genuine FMS part, this bearing is manufactured to the exact specifications required by FMS RC vehicles, guaranteeing compatibility and performance. Using OEM parts ensures your RC car UK setup remains reliable and maintains its performance characteristics rather than relying on generic alternatives that may wear faster or cause unnecessary drivetrain noise.
  • Affordable Spare Parts Solution — At just £3.99, this bearing represents an economical way to maintain your RC vehicles without breaking your hobby budget. Regularly replacing worn bearings is one of the most cost-effective maintenance tasks you can perform on an RC car, dramatically extending the lifespan of more expensive components like motors and transmissions.
  • Essential Maintenance Component — Bearings wear gradually with use, and replacing them proactively prevents the accelerating wear that occurs when bearings become loose or develop flat spots. This preventative maintenance approach keeps your RC vehicle performing smoothly and helps you avoid the more costly repairs that result from neglected bearing maintenance.

Technical Performance

The FMS Ball Bearing 8*16*5 is engineered to exacting tolerances that ensure smooth, wobble-free rotation in critical drivetrain locations. Ball bearings operate on the principle of rolling contact rather than sliding contact, which dramatically reduces friction and heat generation during operation. This is especially important in high-speed RC applications where even small inefficiencies can measurably reduce runtime and performance. The 5mm width of this bearing provides adequate load-bearing surface for typical RC car axle applications, whilst the 16mm outer diameter allows for secure seating in standard bearing blocks used across the FMS model range. The steel construction provides excellent durability against the shock loads and vibration inherent to RC vehicle operation, whether you're running on asphalt, dirt or grass surfaces. Quality bearings like this one maintain their performance characteristics across repeated charging cycles and driving sessions, resisting the wear and degradation that cheaper alternatives exhibit after extended use. The precise engineering means minimal play develops over time, maintaining the tight tolerances that contribute to responsive steering, consistent acceleration and predictable handling throughout the bearing's service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an 8*16*5 ball bearing and why does my RC car need one? — An 8*16*5 ball bearing is a precision component with an 8mm inner bore, 16mm outer diameter, and 5mm width. Ball bearings are used throughout RC vehicles in axles, motor shafts and drivetrain components to enable smooth, low-friction rotation. When bearings wear out, they develop play and increase drag, noticeably reducing your RC car's performance and efficiency. Replacing worn bearings restores smooth operation and is one of the most important maintenance tasks you can perform on your RC vehicle.
  • How often should I replace the bearings in my RC car? — The replacement interval depends on how frequently you use your RC car and the conditions in which you operate it. Regular inspection is important; if you notice grinding sounds, visible play when manually spinning wheels, or reduced performance despite charged batteries, it's time to replace the bearings. Many RC enthusiasts replace bearings annually or after every 50-100 hours of operation, depending on usage intensity.
  • Will this bearing fit my RC vehicle? — The FMS Ball Bearing 8*16*5 is compatible with FMS RC models that specify this bearing size. However, this bearing size is also used by many other RC manufacturers. We recommend checking your vehicle's manual or parts diagram to confirm the bearing specification before ordering. If you're unsure, our team at RC Model Shop can help identify the correct bearing for your specific model.
  • Is this genuine FMS equipment? — Yes, this is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) FMS part, identified by the model number FMS-C3801. Purchasing genuine FMS bearings ensures perfect compatibility with your FMS RC vehicles and guarantees the quality standards that FMS engineering specifies. Genuine parts also ensure you receive the performance and durability benefits that come with authentic components.
  • Can I use this bearing as a preventative maintenance item even if my current bearings aren't worn? — Absolutely. Many experienced RC enthusiasts maintain spare bearings and replace them proactively rather than waiting for performance degradation. This approach minimizes downtime, maintains consistent performance throughout the driving season, and can actually be more cost-effective than waiting for a bearing failure that might damage other components. Having a set of replacement bearings on hand means you can get your RC car back in action immediately if issues develop.
