Fastrax is recognised throughout the RC hobby community for manufacturing premium quality option parts and upgrades that enhance the performance and longevity of RC cars. The 48DP specification places this pinion gear among the most popular sizes used in modern RC vehicles, making it an excellent choice for those looking to replace worn gears or optimise their transmission setup. This particular 40-tooth configuration is ideal for drivers seeking a balance between acceleration and top speed in their RC car setups.
If you're an experienced basher, weekend racer, or serious competitor running an RC car in the UK, having reliable spare pinion gears in your spare parts box is essential. The Fastrax 48DP 40T represents outstanding value and proven quality that RC Model Shop customers have come to trust.
Key Features
- Aluminium 7075 Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from premium grade aluminium 7075, which is aerospace-specification material renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior durability. The use of 7075 aluminium ensures the gear can withstand the extreme stresses generated during acceleration, cornering, and competitive driving without stripping teeth or becoming damaged, providing long service life even in demanding RC car applications.
- 48DP Tooth Pitch — The 48 diametral pitch (48DP) specification ensures this pinion gear is compatible with a wide range of RC cars and drivetrain systems. This is an industry-standard tooth pitch used across many manufacturers including Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi, Team Associated and other major RC brands, making this a versatile upgrade or replacement option that works with numerous ready to run and custom RC vehicles.
- 40-Tooth Configuration — With 40 teeth, this pinion gear delivers an optimal balance between acceleration response and top speed capability. The 40-tooth count is a popular choice for general-purpose RC car driving, offering smooth engagement with spur gears and providing predictable performance across various driving conditions and track surfaces you'll encounter when running RC cars in the UK.
- Direct Replacement Part — This is a genuine Fastrax option part designed as a direct replacement for stock pinion gears on compatible RC vehicles. Whether you've damaged your existing gear through hard driving, or you're looking to upgrade to a higher specification component, the FAST48-40 installs directly into your RC car's transmission without requiring modifications or additional adapters.
- Stock Item — The Fastrax 48DP 40T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is currently in stock at RC Model Shop, meaning you can order with confidence knowing this essential spare part is available for immediate despatch to anywhere in the UK.
Technical Performance
This pinion gear represents precision engineering at its finest, manufactured to tight tolerances that ensure perfect mesh alignment with compatible spur gears. The use of 7075 aluminium alloy, the same material trusted in aerospace applications, provides exceptional hardness and wear resistance compared to lower-grade aluminium or plastic alternatives. When installed in your RC car's transmission, the 40-tooth pinion gear will provide smooth, quiet operation whilst transmitting maximum power from your motor to the wheels without energy loss through gear slippage or deflection. The 48DP specification ensures compatibility across multiple RC car platforms, whether you're running a brushless or nitro-powered vehicle. The precision-cut teeth are engineered to mate perfectly with standard 48DP spur gears, creating a drivetrain system that responds immediately to throttle input and delivers consistent performance lap after lap. For serious RC enthusiasts in the UK who maintain their vehicles to the highest standards, having premium spare pinion gears like this Fastrax component available is essential insurance against drivetrain failures during important races or weekend bashing sessions. The superior material quality means this gear will outlast cheaper alternatives and require replacement far less frequently, ultimately saving money and keeping your RC car on the track where it belongs.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What RC cars is the Fastrax 48DP 40T pinion gear compatible with? — The 48DP specification is an industry-standard tooth pitch used by most major RC manufacturers. This makes the FAST48-40 compatible with a very wide range of vehicles including those from Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi, Team Associated, Mugen, HPI, Rival, Team Losi, Axial Racing and Element Enduro platforms. However, always verify your specific vehicle's pinion gear specification before purchasing to ensure correct fitment.
- Is this a genuine Fastrax part? — Yes, the FAST48-40 is an authentic Fastrax component, purchased directly from authorised distributors. RC Model Shop stocks only genuine products from recognised manufacturers, ensuring you receive the quality engineering and performance you expect from Fastrax option parts.
- Why choose 7075 aluminium over other materials? — Aluminium 7075 is an aerospace-grade material that offers superior hardness, strength, and wear resistance compared to standard aluminium alloys or plastic alternatives. This means the gear teeth resist stripping and deformation under the extreme loads generated during hard acceleration and cornering in RC cars, resulting in longer service life and more reliable performance in competitive and recreational driving.
- What is the difference between 40T and other tooth counts? — The tooth count determines the gear ratio and therefore the balance between acceleration and top speed. A 40-tooth pinion is considered a mid-range option that provides balanced performance for general-purpose RC car use. Lower tooth counts (like 35T or 37T) favour acceleration and torque, whilst higher counts (like 42T or 45T) favour top speed. Choose 40T for versatile all-round performance across various RC car applications.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and care, a premium pinion gear like this Fastrax component should last through hundreds of charging cycles and numerous racing events. Regular inspection will reveal any wear or damage. Replace immediately if you notice teeth damage, stripping, or rough engagement with the spur gear. Using lower-quality gears may require replacement more frequently, so upgrading to quality components like Fastrax parts represents excellent value.
