Purchasing a dedicated shock spring set for your RC car UK hobby ensures you always have replacement parts on hand, minimising downtime and keeping your model performing at its best. The modular design means you can swap springs to fine-tune your suspension setup, giving you complete control over your vehicle's handling characteristics and ride quality.
Key Features
- High-Grade Aluminium Construction — These shocks are manufactured from high-grade aluminium that delivers a superior strength-to-weight ratio, meaning your M40S will benefit from reduced unsprung mass whilst maintaining exceptional durability even during intensive bashing or competitive racing sessions.
- Soft Spring Specification — The soft spring rating is engineered to absorb impacts smoothly and maintain consistent traction across varied driving surfaces, making this set suitable for drivers who want predictable, forgiving handling without sacrificing control.
- Set of Four Shocks — This comprehensive four-piece set includes shocks for all four corners of your vehicle, ensuring balanced suspension geometry and consistent performance across your entire chassis.
- Narrowed Shock Bodies — The shocks feature narrowed bodies specifically designed for clearance at full steering lock, allowing your M40S to achieve maximum articulation and turning radius without binding or rubbing.
- Designed for M40S and M40S 2.0 — These are purpose-engineered components that bolt directly onto M40S and M40S 2.0 models with perfect fitment and no modifications required, ensuring hassle-free installation and reliable performance.
Technical Performance
These aluminium shock springs represent a significant step up in suspension performance for your M40S rally series RC car. The high-grade aluminium material provides an optimal balance between weight savings and structural rigidity, ensuring your shocks remain perfectly straight and true during aggressive cornering, high-speed runs, and rough-terrain driving. The soft spring specification absorbs road irregularities smoothly, translating to improved traction and more predictable vehicle behaviour—critical factors for both recreational drivers learning the hobby and experienced RC enthusiasts who understand that consistent suspension performance is the foundation of any well-handling RC car. The narrowed shock bodies represent considered engineering, solving a common fitment challenge where standard-width shocks can interfere with the steering mechanism at full lock, limiting your vehicle's manoeuvrability and handling potential. Whether you are running these shocks on smooth asphalt or rough carpet surfaces typical of UK RC car clubs and tracks, their responsive damping characteristics and spring rates work in harmony to keep your tyres planted whilst maintaining ride comfort that translates directly into faster lap times and more enjoyable driving sessions.
What's in the Box
- Carisma M40S/M40S 2.0 Aluminium Shock Spring Set (4 pieces)
What You Need to Complete
- Shock oil (25WT recommended) — required for assembly and operation of the shocks
Frequently Asked Questions
- What shock oil should I use with the Carisma M40S aluminium shock spring set? — Carisma recommends using 25WT shock oil for optimal damping performance and handling characteristics. This viscosity has been tested and proven to work perfectly with the M40S suspension geometry and spring rates.
- Are these shocks ready to use straight from the box? — No, the shocks require assembly and you will need to add shock oil before they are operational. This is standard practice for RC car suspension components and allows you to customise the damping by selecting different oil weights if you wish to fine-tune your setup in future.
- Will these shocks fit my M40S 2.0? — Yes, these shocks are compatible with both the original M40S and the M40S 2.0 variant, so whichever version of this popular rally model you own, this shock spring set will bolt on directly.
- What does soft spring specification mean? — The soft rating means the springs require less force to compress compared to medium or hard alternatives, resulting in a more forgiving ride that absorbs impacts smoothly and maintains excellent traction. Soft springs are ideal for general driving, learning, and mixed-terrain use rather than extreme competition setups.
- Why are the shock bodies narrowed? — The narrowed design solves a fitment issue where standard-width shocks can interfere with the steering mechanism when your M40S turns at full lock. By narrowing the shock bodies, Carisma ensures you achieve maximum articulation and turning radius without any rubbing or binding, directly improving your vehicle's handling and manoeuvrability.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst these shocks are high-quality performance components suitable for any skill level, assembly is required and you will need shock oil to complete the setup. Beginners should ensure they understand basic RC car maintenance before purchasing, or consider seeking advice from experienced members of UK RC car clubs who can guide them through the assembly process.
- Can I use different spring rates? — The shock spring set is specifically designed for the M40S platform with the soft specification. If you wish to experiment with different spring rates in future, you can swap springs independently, though Carisma's soft specification is recommended as the starting point for balanced, predictable handling.
