Overview

The Corally M1.0 Pinion Short Hardened Steel 18 Teeth is a professional-grade replacement gear designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competitors who demand precision engineering and reliability. This pinion gear is manufactured by Team Corally, a recognised leader in high-performance RC components for 1/8 scale racing. Whether you're upgrading your RC car UK setup or fine-tuning your gear ratios for optimal track performance, this hardened steel pinion delivers the durability and concentricity that separates winning setups from the rest. The 18-tooth configuration offers an excellent balance for a wide range of driving conditions, making it suitable for both competitive racing and weekend bashers looking to maximise performance.

This pinion gear is specifically engineered for vehicles fitted with MOD1 (Module 1.0) gearing systems, which are the standard in modern 1/8 scale RC racing. The 5mm shaft diameter ensures compatibility with standard RC motor shafts found on most brushless RC car systems. Team Corally's commitment to precision manufacturing means every tooth is cut with ultra-precise shaping on specialised CNC machinery, guaranteeing perfect tooth geometry and exceptional concentricity that eliminates vibration and ensures smooth power delivery. This level of engineering excellence translates directly to improved performance, reduced wear on drivetrain components, and a more stable, responsive driving experience whether you're on the track or bashing off-road.

Upgrading to a high-quality pinion gear like this Corally model is one of the smartest investments you can make for your RC car. Rather than settling for standard gears that come with many ready-to-run RC vehicles, this specialist pinion allows you to dial in the exact gear ratio your specific driving style and track conditions demand. The hardened steel construction provides superior durability compared to softer materials, meaning your investment in this precision component will serve you reliably through countless races, training sessions and recreational drives.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — This pinion is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides exceptional durability and strength, ensuring the gear teeth resist stripping and wear even under the intense loads generated by high-powered brushless RC motors. The hardened material maintains its integrity through countless meshing cycles, making it ideal for serious racers who want components that will last season after season without degradation.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth on this pinion is precisely cut using CNC machinery, resulting in perfect tooth shape and geometry that ensures unparalleled concentricity. This precision engineering eliminates run-out and vibration that can rob you of performance, damage bearings, and compromise handling characteristics. The perfectly centred gear runs smoother and more efficiently than standard pinions.
  • Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — Created on specialised gear-cutting machines, this pinion features ultra-precise tooth profiles that mesh perfectly with your spur gear. The superior tooth shaping ensures efficient power transfer, reduced friction losses, and quieter operation compared to mass-produced alternatives commonly found in budget RC car setups.
  • Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of hardened steel, CNC precision, and perfect concentricity means this pinion runs with exceptional accuracy. The vibration-free operation translates to better traction, more stable handling, improved top speed delivery, and reduced stress on your RC car's drivetrain components including bearings, shafts and spur gears.
  • 18-Tooth Configuration — The 18-tooth count provides an excellent balance for diverse driving conditions and RC car types. This tooth count is suitable for general-purpose racing and bashers seeking a middle-ground gear ratio that doesn't compromise either acceleration or top speed capability across varying track surfaces and conditions.
  • MOD1 (Module 1.0) Pitch Standard — This pinion is engineered to the MOD1 standard, the universal pitch specification for modern 1/8 scale RC racing vehicles. MOD1 gearing is the industry standard, ensuring this pinion will fit all compatible RC cars without modification and allows you to mix and match components from various manufacturers with confidence.
  • 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The 5mm shaft diameter fits all standard RC motors with 5.0mm shafts, which is the common specification for modern brushless RC car motors used in 1/8 scale racing. This standard sizing means you can install this pinion on virtually any current-generation RC racing vehicle without requiring shaft adapters or modifications.
  • Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number, allowing for quick and easy identification. This thoughtful design feature saves time when selecting the correct gear ratio for your setup and helps prevent installation errors that could damage your RC car.
  • Made in Europe — This pinion is manufactured to European precision standards, ensuring consistent quality control and reliable performance. European manufacturing brings decades of automotive and precision engineering expertise to RC components, distinguishing this gear from mass-produced alternatives.
  • Available in All Gearing Sizes — While this package contains the 18-tooth version, Corally offers this pinion in multiple tooth counts. This range allows you to experiment with different gear ratios to find the perfect setup for your specific track layout, driving style, and RC car configuration, enabling fine-tuning that serious competitors demand.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between this 18-tooth pinion and other tooth counts? — The tooth count directly determines your gear ratio and affects acceleration versus top speed characteristics. The 18-tooth configuration offers a balanced middle-ground setup suitable for most 1/8 scale racing applications. Lower tooth counts (like 16T) provide faster top speed but slower acceleration, whilst higher tooth counts (like 20T) deliver snappier acceleration but lower maximum speed. Choose based on your track layout and driving style.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst the Corally pinion is professional-grade and more expensive than budget alternatives, it's absolutely suitable for beginners. In fact, starting with quality components like this Corally gear means you'll experience better handling, learn more effectively, and avoid the frustration of cheap gears stripping or wearing prematurely. Beginners benefit enormously from precision components that deliver reliable, predictable performance.
  • Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion is compatible with any 1/8 scale RC car equipped with a MOD1 (Module 1.0) gearing system and a 5mm motor shaft. Virtually all modern 1/8 scale brushless RC racing vehicles use these standard specifications. Check your vehicle's documentation or measure your motor shaft diameter to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
  • How does hardened steel improve performance? — Hardened steel resists stripping, cracking, and wear far better than standard materials. Under the intense forces generated by powerful brushless RC motors, standard gears deteriorate quickly, developing microfractures in the teeth that cause noise, vibration, and eventual failure. The hardened steel in this Corally pinion maintains its integrity through thousands of hours of use, delivering consistent performance and exceptional longevity.
  • What does concentricity mean and why is it important? — Concentricity refers to how perfectly centred the gear teeth are around the shaft. Perfect concentricity eliminates run-out (wobbling) that causes vibration, energy loss, and premature bearing wear. The CNC precision manufacturing process used for this Corally pinion ensures exceptional concentricity, meaning the gear spins with absolute smoothness and transfers power with maximum efficiency.
  • Can I use this pinion on different RC cars? — As long as your RC car features MOD1 gearing and a 5mm motor shaft, this pinion will work. This compatibility across multiple vehicles makes it a smart investment — you can even transfer it between different 1/8 scale RC cars in your collection, adjusting gear ratios as needed for optimal performance on each setup.
  • How often should I replace this pinion? — With proper maintenance and the hardened steel construction of this Corally gear, you can expect thousands of runs before replacement becomes necessary. Regular inspection for visible damage and monitoring for unusual noise will tell you when replacement is needed. Many racers only replace gears when switching to a different tooth count for different tracks.
