Overview
The Corally 32 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 12 Teeth Shaft Dia. 5mm (C-72512) is a precision-engineered drivetrain component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their RC car setups. Whether you're running a competitive RC buggy, an off-road truck, or any vehicle that utilises a 32 DP drivetrain system, this hardened steel pinion gear delivers the durability and precision meshing that serious RC racers depend on. This is an essential upgrade component for anyone looking to optimise their RC vehicle's performance and longevity.
Built to exacting specifications by Team Corally, a recognised manufacturer of premium RC components, this pinion gear is part of a comprehensive range of 32 DP options that allows you to fine-tune your vehicle's gearing for maximum acceleration or top speed depending on your specific racing requirements and track conditions. Whether you're a weekend basher exploring the RC hobby for the first time, or a seasoned competitor running in UK RC championships, having the right pinion gear is fundamental to achieving consistent performance and avoiding costly drivetrain failures during critical races.
The 12-tooth configuration offers a mid-range gearing option that works well with standard spur gears used in many popular RC platforms. By selecting the correct pinion tooth count matched to your spur gear, you can optimise your vehicle's acceleration, top speed, and overall efficiency across different driving conditions, whether that's high-speed circuit racing on tarmac or bashing through muddy off-road terrain.
Key Features
- Hardened Steel Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from hardened steel, which provides superior wear resistance and durability compared to standard plastic alternatives, ensuring longer service life even under the intense stresses of competition RC racing or aggressive bashing sessions.
- 32 DP (Diametral Pitch) Standard — The 32 DP specification ensures compatibility with a wide range of RC vehicles and drivetrain systems that follow this industry standard, making it a versatile upgrade option for multiple RC car platforms available in the UK RC market.
- 12-Tooth Configuration — The 12-tooth count provides a balanced mid-range gearing option that offers good acceleration characteristics while maintaining reasonable top speed potential, making it suitable for a variety of driving styles and track conditions without sacrificing overall drivetrain efficiency.
- 5mm Shaft Diameter — The precisely sized 5mm shaft diameter ensures a secure fit with compatible motor shafts and drivetrain components, eliminating play and slippage that could compromise performance or cause premature wear during high-speed runs.
- Short Profile Design — The short pinion design maximises space efficiency within your RC vehicle's chassis while maintaining structural integrity, allowing you to build compact, well-balanced setups without compromising on mechanical reliability or gear mesh quality.
- Precision Machining — Each pinion gear is precision-machined to ensure perfect tooth profiles and minimal tolerance variations, guaranteeing smooth, quiet meshing with your spur gear and reducing the risk of stripping or binding during operation.
Technical Performance
The Corally 32 DP Pinion Short represents professional-grade engineering applied to RC drivetrain optimisation. As a hardened steel component, this pinion gear offers significantly improved material properties compared to softer plastic alternatives commonly found in budget RC setups. The hardening process increases the gear's resistance to deformation and tooth wear, critical factors when running high-torque brushless motors or when engaging in intensive bashful driving. The 32 DP specification is one of the most widely adopted standards in RC motorsport, used across numerous vehicle platforms from compact buggies to larger monster trucks and competitive racing vehicles. With a 5mm shaft diameter, this pinion accommodates the standard motor shafts found on most mid-range and high-performance brushless motors used in UK RC racing. The short profile design is engineered to integrate seamlessly into space-constrained chassis layouts without compromising gear tooth engagement or creating binding points. The 12-tooth configuration positions this pinion in the middle of Corally's range, offering gearing flexibility—pair it with a larger spur gear for accelerated off-the-line performance, or with a smaller spur for increased top-end speed potential depending on your motor's KV rating and your battery voltage (whether running 3S, 4S LiPo or other compatible power sources). Precision manufacturing ensures that each tooth is cut to exacting tolerances, resulting in smooth, consistent mesh with virtually no backlash, which is essential for maintaining efficiency and reducing drivetrain noise during competitive runs or recreational driving.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles is this 12-tooth pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion is designed for any RC vehicle that uses a 32 DP drivetrain system with a 5mm motor shaft. Corally manufactures this component for multiple vehicle platforms, and compatibility depends on your specific RC car model. Check your vehicle's specifications or contact our RC Model Shop team to confirm compatibility with your particular RC setup, whether you're running a buggy, truck, or specialist competition vehicle.
- How do I choose the correct tooth count for my RC car? — Pinion tooth selection depends on matching it with your spur gear and your desired performance characteristics. The 12-tooth option represents a middle-ground approach offering balanced acceleration and top speed. Lower tooth counts (11T, 12T, 13T) provide stronger acceleration but lower maximum speed, whilst higher tooth counts (15T and above) offer increased top speed at the expense of acceleration. Your motor's KV rating and battery voltage also influence this decision—higher KV motors with lower voltage batteries typically benefit from lower pinion counts, whilst lower KV brushless systems often prefer higher tooth counts for optimal efficiency.
- Why choose hardened steel over plastic pinion gears? — Hardened steel pinions like this Corally component offer dramatically superior durability compared to plastic alternatives. Steel resists deformation, maintains precise tooth profiles longer, and resists stripping even under high-torque conditions from powerful brushless motors. For anyone serious about competitive RC racing in the UK or regular high-performance driving, a hardened steel pinion is a worthwhile investment that will outlast multiple plastic alternatives and provide more consistent performance over time.
- Is this pinion suitable for brushless motor setups? — Yes, absolutely. This hardened steel pinion is excellent for brushless RC vehicles. In fact, the increased durability of steel construction is particularly valuable when running brushless motors, which deliver significantly higher torque than brushed alternatives, creating greater stress on drivetrain components. The 5mm shaft diameter and hardened construction ensure reliable performance even with powerful brushless systems, making this an ideal upgrade for anyone stepping up to brushless power in their RC car.
- What is the difference between this short profile pinion and standard pinions? — The short profile design is engineered to fit within space-constrained chassis layouts without compromising on tooth engagement area or structural strength. This is particularly valuable in modern RC designs where chassis real estate is at a premium. The short design maintains the same tooth profile and meshing characteristics as standard versions but in a more compact package, allowing for better weight distribution and more flexible chassis design options.
- Can I use this with my 4S LiPo battery setup? — Yes, this pinion gear can be used with 4S LiPo and other battery configurations, though the specific compatibility depends on your motor's KV rating, spur gear size, and desired performance characteristics. A 12-tooth pinion paired with an appropriate spur gear will work across various voltage setups—the key is ensuring your motor, ESC, and chosen gearing combination are all properly matched for your battery system. Our RC Model Shop team can help you find the optimal gearing combination for your specific 4S or other voltage setup.
