Key Features
- Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from special hardened steel that provides exceptional durability and resistance to tooth wear, ensuring your investment remains reliable through countless hours of racing and bashing without stripping or degradation.
- CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Geometry — Every tooth is cut using precision CNC machinery, guaranteeing perfect tooth shape and absolute concentricity that ensures smooth, vibration-free operation and efficient power delivery to the spur gear.
- 48 DP Gear Pitch — The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification means this pinion works seamlessly with other 48 DP gears in the Corally range, allowing you to customize your gear ratio for maximum performance on any track surface.
- 27 Tooth Configuration — The 27-tooth count provides an excellent middle-ground ratio for general racing applications, offering a balance between acceleration and top speed that suits a wide variety of electric RC cars and driving styles.
- 5MM Motor Shaft Compatibility — The 5MM bore diameter makes this pinion compatible with standard motor shafts found on most quality brushless and brushed motors used in 1/10 scale RC cars throughout the UK and worldwide.
- Short Version Design — The short pinion configuration minimizes rotational mass whilst maintaining full mesh contact with the spur gear, reducing inertia and improving acceleration response compared to longer pinion designs.
- Ultra-True Running Precision — Every pinion is manufactured to ultra-precise tolerances with ultra-true running characteristics, eliminating runout that could cause efficiency losses and vibration-induced wear on drivetrain components.
- Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth number, making quick identification simple and reducing the risk of accidentally installing the wrong gear ratio during setup or maintenance.
- European Manufacturing — Built to the highest standards at dedicated manufacturing facilities in Europe, ensuring consistent quality, reliability and performance across every unit produced.
Technical Performance
The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 27 Teeth represents the absolute zenith of pinion gear engineering for serious RC car racing. Every aspect of this component has been meticulously designed and manufactured to deliver measurable performance improvements in your RC setup. The special hardened steel construction provides superior durability compared to standard steel gears, resisting the constant compression and shear forces that occur during aggressive acceleration and high-speed running. The CNC cutting process ensures that each tooth maintains perfect geometry with precise involute profiles, which is essential for smooth power transfer and minimum energy loss through the drivetrain.
The 48 DP pitch specification places this pinion in the category preferred by competitive racers who demand the ultimate in precision and reliability. Combined with the 27-tooth count, this gear ratio suits a broad range of electric RC vehicles including 1/10 scale buggies, stadium trucks, and sport touring cars. The 5MM motor shaft bore ensures universal compatibility with modern brushless motor systems that feature standard 5MM hardened steel shafts. The 13MM total gear length and 6.20MM tooth width provide optimal contact area with your spur gear whilst maintaining a compact profile that suits modern motor pod designs. The 2.0MM hex key size ensures secure installation using standard RC tools, and the precise tolerances mean that runout is virtually eliminated, enabling vibration-free operation at sustained high RPM. Whether you're pushing for qualifying position at a competitive 1/10 buggy event or simply demanding the best performance from your weekend basher, this pinion gear delivers the precision engineering and durability that Corally is renowned for throughout the RC world.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 48 DP pinion gear and why does the pitch specification matter? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, which defines the gear tooth size and spacing. 48 DP gears have smaller, more tightly spaced teeth than lower DP numbers like 32 DP, allowing for finer ratio adjustments and smoother operation. The 48 DP specification means this pinion must be paired with other 48 DP gears, particularly your spur gear, to ensure proper mesh and performance.
- Why is hardened steel better than standard steel for RC pinion gears? — Hardened steel undergoes a special heat treatment process that increases its surface hardness and wear resistance. This means the teeth can withstand the constant compressive forces from acceleration without stripping, flattening or wearing prematurely. For serious racers and frequent bashers, hardened steel pinions last significantly longer than softer alternatives, making them a cost-effective choice over time.
- Is the Corally 48 DP Pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a high-quality precision component, pinion selection is really about understanding gear ratios rather than component complexity. Beginners should ensure they understand what gear ratio their vehicle needs for their track conditions. The Corally pinion is absolutely suitable for beginners in terms of installation — it simply slides onto a 5MM motor shaft — but you'll want guidance on selecting the right tooth count for your setup.
- What is the difference between the 27-tooth and other available tooth counts in the Corally range? — Corally offers this pinion in multiple tooth counts to allow infinite gear ratio tuning. Fewer teeth (like 21T or 23T) create higher ratios, prioritizing acceleration but limiting top speed. More teeth (like 29T or 31T) create lower ratios that favour top speed. The 27T configuration offers an excellent middle ground, making it ideal for general-purpose racing and driving where both acceleration and top-end speed matter equally.
- Will this pinion fit my RC car? — This pinion is designed for any RC car with a standard 5MM motor shaft and a 48 DP spur gear. Before purchasing, verify that your vehicle uses 48 DP gearing (not 32 DP or other pitches) and that your motor has a 5MM shaft. Most modern brushless motors for 1/10 scale vehicles meet these specifications.
- How long does a hardened steel pinion typically last? — With proper maintenance and correct mesh alignment, a Corally hardened steel pinion will provide thousands of hours of reliable operation. Lifespan depends on driving intensity, track surface, and how well you maintain your drivetrain. Regular cleaning and checking for tooth wear helps maximize the life of your investment.
