Overview
The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 22 Teeth 5mm (Model C-72422) is a premium precision gear component designed for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability, durability and perfect performance from their RC car setups. Whether you're running a high-performance brushless RC buggy, an electric RC truck, or any RC vehicle that requires 48 DP gearing, this hardened steel pinion gear represents the gold standard in gear manufacturing. Team Corally has engineered this pinion with meticulous attention to detail, creating a component that delivers vibration-free operation and exceptional durability even under the most demanding racing conditions.
This is a genuine replacement or upgrade pinion gear that will transform your RC car's performance by allowing you to fine-tune your gear ratio to match your driving style, track conditions and motor specifications. Whether you're a seasoned RC racer competing at track level, a weekend basher looking to maximise top speed, or an RC hobbyist experimenting with different setups, having the correct pinion teeth count is essential for achieving the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed. The 22-tooth configuration of this pinion makes it a popular choice for many RC applications, and the short version design ensures compatibility with most modern RC motor shafts measuring 5mm in diameter.
Manufactured in Europe using CNC machinery and special hardening processes, every single Corally pinion gear undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure perfect tooth geometry and runout concentricity. This commitment to manufacturing excellence means you can trust this component to perform reliably, lap after lap, race after race, without the frustration of premature wear or gear tooth damage that can occur with inferior aftermarket parts.
Key Features
- Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides superior durability and resistance to wear, ensuring the gear teeth maintain their precise shape even after extended use in competitive racing or intensive bashing sessions.
- CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is precisely cut on advanced CNC machinery to ensure absolute accuracy in tooth shape and positioning, which eliminates vibration and ensures smooth, quiet operation throughout your RC vehicle's drivetrain.
- 48 DP Gear Pitch — The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification is a standard sizing system for RC pinion gears, making this component compatible with corresponding 48 DP spur gears available from Corally and other manufacturers, allowing you to build the perfect gear ratio for your setup.
- 22 Teeth Configuration — The 22-tooth count offers a balanced approach to gearing, providing good acceleration characteristics whilst maintaining reasonable top-end speed, making it suitable for a wide variety of track types and driving styles.
- Short Version Design — The compact short version profile is specifically engineered to fit modern RC motor configurations and ensures proper mesh with standard spur gears without unnecessary overhang or clearance issues.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Bore — The precisely machined 5mm diameter bore accommodates standard RC motor shafts, ensuring a secure fit that prevents slippage during acceleration and eliminates potential gear damage caused by poor engagement.
- 6.2mm Teeth Width — The tooth width specification ensures optimal power transmission from your motor to the spur gear, with sufficient contact area to distribute forces evenly and prevent premature tooth breakage under load.
- Quick Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth count number, allowing you to quickly identify the correct gear during setup changes, maintenance or when building multiple vehicle configurations for different racing conditions.
- Ultra-True Running Profile — The precision manufacturing ensures that the pinion runs with absolute concentricity, meaning zero runout and vibration-free operation that translates directly into smoother, more predictable vehicle handling and improved lap times.
- European Manufacturing Standards — Produced in Europe to stringent quality control standards, this component reflects Team Corally's commitment to delivering professional-grade RC components that rival even the most expensive specialist manufacturers.
Technical Performance
The Corally C-72422 pinion gear represents the pinnacle of RC drivetrain engineering, combining material science with precision manufacturing to deliver a component that professional RC racers and serious hobbyists rely upon. The use of specially hardened steel provides the necessary tensile strength to withstand the enormous stresses generated when high-powered brushless motors deliver instant torque through the drivetrain. At only 13mm in overall length with a 6.2mm teeth width, this pinion achieves an optimal balance between compact installation and maximum power transmission capability. The CNC-cut tooth profile ensures that every engagement with your spur gear is absolutely precise, eliminating the micro-vibrations that occur with poorly manufactured gears and that can accumulate to cause handling inconsistencies and eventual tooth failure. The 48 DP pitch class is one of the most popular standards in RC vehicle design, meaning you'll have maximum compatibility when selecting matching spur gears to achieve your desired final drive ratio. When paired with different tooth-count spur gears, this 22-tooth pinion allows you to adjust your overall gearing from aggressive low-ratio setups for maximum acceleration and torque delivery, through to higher ratios for top-speed focused applications on fast, flowing tracks. The 5mm shaft bore accommodates the motor shafts found in virtually all modern brushless RC systems, from entry-level 540-size motors through to high-performance competition motors. Whether you're running your RC buggy, RC truck, or RC car at full throttle, this precision gear will deliver the performance consistency and durability you demand.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Corally 48 DP Pinion suitable for my RC car UK racing setup? — Absolutely. This is a professional-grade pinion gear that's widely used in competitive RC racing across the United Kingdom and Europe. The 22-tooth configuration provides an excellent starting point for most electric RC vehicles, though you may need to experiment with tooth counts to find the perfect ratio for your specific track and driving style.
- What is the difference between the 22-tooth and other tooth count options? — Fewer teeth (such as 19 or 20) provide lower gear ratios with more acceleration but lower top speed, whilst more teeth (such as 24 or 25) provide higher gear ratios with less acceleration but higher top speed. The 22-tooth represents a middle ground that works well for most applications. Your choice should depend on your track's characteristics and whether you prioritise acceleration or top speed.
- Will this pinion work with my existing RC buggy or RC truck? — This pinion will work with any RC vehicle that features a 5mm motor shaft and uses 48 DP spur gears. You must verify both specifications before purchasing. If your vehicle uses a different motor shaft diameter (such as 3.2mm or 3.17mm) or different gear pitch (such as 32 DP or 64 DP), this pinion will not be compatible.
- How do I know when to replace my pinion gear? — Inspect your pinion regularly for signs of worn or damaged teeth, unusual noise during operation, or visible pitting on the tooth surfaces. If you notice any of these signs, replacement is necessary to prevent spur gear damage and maintain optimal drivetrain performance.
- Why is hardened steel better than standard steel for pinion gears? — Hardened steel undergoes a special heat treatment process that increases its hardness and wear resistance significantly compared to standard steel. This means the tooth profile maintains its precise geometry much longer, reducing the risk of premature wear and tooth breakage, especially during high-performance racing or heavy use.
- Is installation difficult and what tools do I need? — Installation is straightforward and requires only basic RC maintenance skills. You'll need a 2mm hex key (included in the specifications), a motor pinion puller tool (available separately from most RC retailers), and basic mechanical knowledge. Most experienced RC enthusiasts can install this pinion in under five minutes.
- What are the exact dimensions and will it fit in my motor bell? — The pinion measures 13mm in total length with a 6.2mm teeth width and 5mm bore diameter. These dimensions are standard for short-version pinions and fit virtually all modern RC motor configurations. However, if you're using an unusual or vintage motor setup, we recommend measuring your existing pinion to confirm compatibility.
