Overview
The CORALLY 48 DP PINION SHORT HARDENED STEEL 17 TEETH 5MM C-72417 is a precision-engineered pinion gear designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand uncompromising performance and reliability. Whether you're running competitive RC car racing events, bashing at your local track, or fine-tuning your RC vehicle for maximum speed and efficiency, this hardened steel pinion delivers the durability and precision that separates champions from casual runners. Manufactured by Team Corally, a recognised leader in high-performance RC components, this pinion gear is engineered using special hardened steel and CNC-cut teeth to ensure vibration-free operation and exceptional concentricity. If you're looking for a replacement pinion for your RC car UK setup or upgrading your existing drivetrain, this 17-tooth gear offers the perfect balance of performance and longevity.
This is not a generic aftermarket pinion—it's a professional-grade component that reflects decades of RC engineering expertise. The 17-tooth configuration provides an excellent mid-range gear ratio option, making it suitable for a wide variety of track conditions and driving styles. Whether you need a faster acceleration setup or are experimenting with different gearing ratios to optimise your vehicle's performance, the Team Corally pinion range allows you to dial in the perfect gear ratio for any track. The short version design ensures compatibility with standard 5mm motor shafts whilst maintaining the compact profile essential for modern RC car design.
Built in Europe with meticulous attention to detail, each CORALLY pinion is individually marked with its tooth count for quick and easy identification during maintenance or gear swaps. The special hardened steel material resists wear and tooth stripping, even under extreme racing conditions or high-speed bashing sessions. This means fewer gear failures, longer intervals between component replacements, and ultimately better value for your RC hobby investment.
Key Features
- Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from specially selected and heat-treated steel that provides superior toughness and durability compared to standard steel gears, ensuring it can withstand the stresses of competitive racing and aggressive driving without premature wear or failure.
- CNC-Cut Teeth for Perfect Shape and Concentricity — Each tooth is precision-cut using advanced CNC machinery to guarantee perfect tooth geometry and ultra-true running characteristics, which eliminates vibration and ensures smooth, efficient power transmission from your motor to the drivetrain.
- Module 48DP Gear Pitch — This high-precision pitch specification ensures compatibility with other 48DP drivetrain components and allows for precise gear ratio calculations, giving you maximum flexibility when experimenting with different gearing setups on your RC car.
- 17-Tooth Configuration — The 17-tooth count provides an ideal mid-range gear ratio that balances acceleration and top speed, making it a versatile choice for track driving, competition, and casual bashing alike.
- Short Version Profile — The compact short version design maintains a low-profile footprint whilst delivering full performance, making it perfect for tight motor mounts and modern RC car chassis designs that demand space efficiency.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed specifically for motors with standard 5mm diameter shafts, this pinion ensures secure engagement and reliable power delivery without slippage or alignment issues.
- Tooth Width Precision — With a carefully engineered 6.20mm tooth width, this pinion meshes perfectly with spur gears, providing the optimal contact area for smooth engagement and minimal backlash.
- Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — Created on specialised gear machines, the pinion features ultra-precise tooth shaping that guarantees unparalleled concentricity and vibration-free operation even at high RPMs.
- Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is individually marked with its tooth number, allowing you to quickly identify the correct gear during maintenance, repairs, or gear ratio experiments without confusion.
- European Manufacturing Quality — Made in Europe to the highest standards, this Team Corally component reflects the quality control and engineering excellence that European RC manufacturers are renowned for globally.
- 2.0mm Hex Key Compatibility — The pinion requires a standard 2.0mm hex key for installation or removal, making it easy to work with using common workshop tools found in most RC enthusiast toolkits.
Technical Performance
The CORALLY 48 DP PINION SHORT HARDENED STEEL 17 TEETH 5MM represents the pinnacle of pinion gear engineering for serious RC car UK enthusiasts. The special hardened steel material undergoes heat treatment processes that significantly increase its hardness and toughness, allowing it to withstand the extreme stresses of competitive motorsport without deforming, stripping teeth, or failing prematurely. The CNC-cut teeth are manufactured to tolerances measured in hundredths of a millimetre, ensuring that every tooth engages perfectly with your spur gear with minimal backlash and maximum efficiency. This precision engineering translates directly into smoother acceleration, reduced vibration, quieter operation, and more consistent performance lap after lap. At 17 teeth with a 48DP module, this pinion is designed for motors with 5mm shafts and provides an excellent gear ratio for most track conditions. The short version profile, at just 13mm in length, keeps your drivetrain compact whilst delivering full performance. The total tooth width of 6.20mm ensures optimal meshing characteristics with standard spur gears, whilst the precise 13.00mm gear length maintains compatibility with standard motor mounts and chassis designs. Whether you're running brushless or brushed systems, this pinion will deliver consistent, reliable performance when paired with appropriately rated drivetrain components. The special hardened steel resists deformation under load, meaning your gear ratio stays true and your acceleration characteristics remain consistent throughout your driving session or race event.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the CORALLY 48 DP pinion suitable for beginners in RC car UK racing? — Yes, this pinion is suitable for drivers of all skill levels. Beginners benefit from its durability and reliability, whilst experienced racers appreciate the precision engineering and performance consistency. The 17-tooth configuration offers a balanced gear ratio that works well for learning proper racing techniques without overwhelming the vehicle with excessive acceleration or top speed.
- What is the difference between this 17-tooth pinion and other tooth counts? — Tooth count directly affects your gear ratio. Lower tooth counts like 14T or 15T provide quicker acceleration but lower top speed, whilst higher counts like 19T or 20T offer more top speed but slower acceleration. The 17-tooth pinion offers an excellent middle ground, making it ideal for most drivers and track conditions. If you're running faster, longer tracks, consider a higher tooth count; for tighter courses requiring quick acceleration, try a lower count.
- Can I use this pinion with any motor? — This pinion is designed for motors with 5mm diameter motor shafts, which is the industry standard for most mid-sized RC vehicles. Before purchase, verify that your motor shaft matches this specification to ensure proper fit and engagement.
- What maintenance does this pinion require? — Periodically inspect the teeth for wear or damage, and ensure the mesh with your spur gear maintains proper engagement without excessive backlash. Keep the pinion clean and free from debris. The hardened steel construction means minimal maintenance compared to standard steel pinions, and you should expect extended service life under normal racing conditions.
- Why is hardened steel better than standard steel for RC pinions? — Hardened steel undergoes a heat treatment process that increases its hardness and wear resistance dramatically. This means the teeth resist stripping, deformation, and fatigue failure far longer than standard steel, resulting in improved longevity and more consistent performance over extended use periods. For serious racers and frequent bashers, this translates to better value and fewer drivetrain failures.
- Is the 48DP pitch important? — Yes, the 48DP (diametral pitch) specification is critical for compatibility. It determines the tooth size and spacing, so you must pair this pinion with spur gears that have the same 48DP pitch specification. Mixing different pitch specifications will result in poor meshing and drivetrain failure. Always verify your spur gear's pitch before purchasing this pinion.
