Technical Performance

The Corally C-71632 M0.6 pinion represents the pinnacle of modern gear manufacturing technology applied to RC car components. With its 32-tooth configuration, this hardened steel pinion delivers the performance characteristics that competitive RC car UK drivers demand when they need consistent, reliable acceleration and speed control. The special hardened steel material provides exceptional tensile strength and wear resistance, which means this pinion can withstand the intense forces generated during high-speed acceleration and aggressive racing manoeuvres without stripping teeth or developing micro-fractures. The CNC-cut tooth profile ensures perfect concentricity, which is the precise alignment of each tooth relative to the pinion's centreline—this specification is critical because any runout or wobbling in the gear tooth mesh creates vibration that degrades performance, wastes power, and accelerates wear on both the pinion and its mating spur gear. At 9mm in total length with a 4mm tooth width, this short pinion is engineered for compact installations without sacrificing gear strength or load capacity. The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates standard motor sizing found across the majority of RC car platforms, whilst the M0.6 module pitch ensures compatibility with the extensive Corally and Tamiya ecosystem of gears. The inclusion of a 1.5mm hex key socket in the pinion bore facilitates rapid, tool-free removal and installation, streamlining your maintenance and gear-ratio adjustment workflow. Whether you're competing in time trials, endurance races, or casual weekend bashing sessions, this pinion's engineered precision ensures consistent, repeatable performance that keeps you competitive and your RC car running at peak efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an M0.6 pinion and why does it matter for my RC car? — The M0.6 designation refers to the gear pitch or tooth size specification for this pinion. It determines compatibility with other gears in your drivetrain and affects how power is transferred from your motor to the wheels. The M0.6 module is a universal standard found on countless RC cars, particularly Tamiya models, making this Corally pinion a drop-in replacement or upgrade option for most competitive and hobby-grade vehicles. Choosing the correct module ensures proper mesh with your spur gear and prevents installation problems or performance issues.
  • How many teeth should I choose for my RC car? — The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's performance characteristics. Fewer teeth (like 28T or 30T) provide faster acceleration and better torque at lower speeds, ideal for technical tracks with tight corners. More teeth (like 34T or 36T) favour higher top speed and efficiency on faster, more open tracks. The 32-tooth configuration in this pinion offers a balanced middle ground suitable for most track layouts and driving styles. You should experiment with different tooth counts to find the optimal gear ratio for your specific track conditions and racing goals.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Yes, this is an excellent choice for beginners and experienced racers alike. The precision engineering means you'll enjoy smooth, vibration-free operation, which helps new drivers learn smooth throttle control and consistent line-holding without fighting against gear noise and drivetrain slop. For experienced drivers, the ultra-precise concentricity translates to measurable performance gains and faster lap times. The straightforward installation process and universal M0.6 compatibility mean installation is straightforward even for those new to drivetrain work.
  • What is the difference between hardened steel and standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel undergoes a heat-treatment process that significantly increases its hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance compared to standard untreated steel. This means hardened steel pinions can withstand higher forces, maintain their tooth geometry longer under heavy use, and resist the micro-deformation that causes gear stripping and premature failure. For any serious RC car enthusiast, especially those running high-powered brushless motors, hardened steel pinions are the only sensible choice for reliability and longevity.
  • How do I install this pinion? — The pinion slides directly onto your motor's 3.17mm diameter shaft, and then you secure it using the 1.5mm hex socket (hex key) which threads into the pinion bore and tightens against a flat or keyway on the motor shaft. Ensure the pinion is fully seated on the shaft and tightened securely to prevent it from slipping during acceleration. Always mesh your pinion teeth carefully with the spur gear, checking that there is smooth contact across the entire tooth face with no binding or excessive lash.
  • Can I use this pinion on any RC car? — This pinion is compatible with any RC car equipped with M0.6 module gears and a motor featuring a 3.17mm diameter shaft. This includes most Tamiya models and many other mainstream RC vehicles. Before purchasing, verify your current drivetrain specifications to ensure compatibility. If your car uses a different module pitch (like M0.5 or M0.8) or a different shaft diameter (like 2.38mm or 4mm), you'll need a different pinion to ensure proper mesh and function.
  • What maintenance does this pinion require? — Minimal maintenance is needed if you run clean, well-filtered fuel (for nitro cars) or keep battery contacts clean (for electric vehicles). Simply inspect the pinion periodically for any signs of tooth wear, chipping, or damage. Keep the gear mesh clean and free from dirt, sand, and debris, which can accelerate wear and cause erratic meshing. Occasionally wiping the pinion with a soft cloth removes accumulated dirt without affecting its performance or longevity.
