Key Features
- Special Hardened Steel Construction — Unlike standard brass or softer steel pinion gears, this component is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides exceptional toughness and durability even under extreme track conditions and high-torque applications. This material selection means the gear teeth will resist stripping, breaking and wear far more effectively than inferior alternatives, extending the life of your drivetrain and reducing maintenance downtime.
- CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Shape and Concentricity — Each tooth on this pinion gear is machined using precision CNC technology to achieve perfect tooth shape and true concentricity, eliminating the microscopic imperfections found in pressed or stamped gears. This precision engineering ensures smooth, vibration-free meshing with your spur gear, which directly translates to smoother power delivery, less noise and improved handling characteristics on the track.
- Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — The manufacturing process creates ultra-precise tooth profiles that ensure consistent contact patch with your spur gear across all operating conditions. This precision prevents the binding and binding behaviour that can occur with lower-quality gears, delivering consistent acceleration and more predictable vehicle dynamics.
- Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of hardened steel material, CNC precision and special gear machinery creates a pinion that runs with exceptional concentricity and balance. This ultra-true running characteristic eliminates vibration that could otherwise transfer through your drivetrain, affecting steering response, braking stability and overall vehicle control.
- Easy Identification with Tooth Number Marking — Each pinion gear is clearly marked with its tooth count (24T in this case), allowing for quick and easy identification in your spares box. This simple feature saves valuable time when you need to swap gears between different track conditions or when managing multiple RC cars with different gear ratios.
- M0.6 Module Compatibility — This pinion is specifically engineered to work with M0.6 module gearing systems, making it the correct choice for Tamiya and other M0.6-equipped vehicles. The modular specification ensures perfect mesh compatibility with M0.6 spur gears, eliminating the guesswork and ensuring you get the right component first time.
- 24-Tooth Configuration — The 24-tooth specification provides a mid-range gearing option that balances acceleration and top speed. In the context of pinion gears, 24 teeth represents a common configuration that many drivers favour for versatile track performance, though the availability of other tooth counts across the Corally range allows you to fine-tune your exact gear ratio requirements.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Diameter — Engineered specifically for 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, this pinion ensures secure mounting and perfect alignment with standard motor bell housings. The 3.17mm specification is an industry standard for many 1/10-scale RC motors, making this gear compatible with a wide range of brushless and brushed motor combinations.
- Made in Europe — This component is manufactured in Europe to stringent quality control standards, ensuring consistent quality, reliability and environmental standards. European manufacturing is recognised throughout the RC hobby as a mark of quality and precision engineering.
- Available in Complete Gearing Range — Corally offers this pinion in multiple tooth counts within the M0.6 module family, allowing you to find the perfect gear ratio for any track condition. Whether you need higher acceleration for technical courses or top speed for high-speed layouts, the Corally range provides options.
Technical Performance
The Corally M0.6 Pinion represents a significant step forward in RC drivetrain technology, delivering the kind of precision and durability that was once reserved only for professional racing teams. The hardened steel construction provides superior wear resistance compared to softer materials, meaning this pinion will maintain its tooth profile and performance characteristics through hundreds of hours of use. The CNC tooth shaping process creates a perfectly consistent tooth profile across all 24 teeth, eliminating the minor variations that occur in lower-cost manufacturing methods. This precision ensures that as the pinion meshes with your spur gear throughout a full rotation, the contact patch remains consistent and the load distribution is even, preventing stress concentration and premature failure. The special gear cutting machine used in manufacture creates teeth that are not just correctly shaped, but positioned with such precision that the overall runout and concentricity are measurable in fractions of a millimetre. This level of precision directly impacts your RC car's performance on the track: smoother power delivery from the motor, reduced drivetrain noise, improved efficiency (meaning you get more speed from your battery), and more predictable handling. For competitive RC racing, these seemingly small technical advantages accumulate into measurable lap time improvements. The 4mm tooth width provides adequate contact area for reliable power transmission without excessive mass, whilst the 9mm gear length is optimised for the short pinion configuration that many drivers prefer for compact drivetrain layouts. With a hex key size of 1.5mm for secure mounting, installation is straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance experience. Whether you're upgrading from a worn original pinion, fine-tuning your gear ratio for a specific track, or building a custom M0.6 geared RC car from individual components, this Corally pinion delivers the engineering excellence and build quality that justifies its position as a premium component in the RC car UK market.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Corally M0.6 24T Pinion compatible with my RC car? — This pinion is designed for any RC car that uses M0.6 module gearing and has a motor with a 3.17mm diameter shaft. Most Tamiya 1/10-scale vehicles fall into this category. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm it uses M0.6 gears and a 3.17mm shaft before purchasing. If your model uses a different module specification (such as 32dp or 64dp) or a different shaft diameter, this pinion will not be compatible.
- What is the difference between hardened steel and brass pinion gears? — Hardened steel pinion gears, like this Corally component, are significantly tougher and more durable than brass alternatives. Hardened steel resists stripping and wear far better than brass, particularly in high-torque applications or during competitive racing. However, brass gears are softer and will theoretically protect your motor from damage in extreme situations by failing first, though in practice this rarely occurs with quality modern motors. For serious racing and reliability, hardened steel is the superior choice.
- Why should I replace my pinion gear if it's still working? — As pinion gears wear, their tooth profile gradually rounds and becomes less precise, leading to inefficient meshing with your spur gear. This creates vibration, noise and power loss. Upgrading to a new precision-engineered Corally pinion can improve acceleration smoothness, increase top speed efficiency and reduce drivetrain noise. Additionally, if you want to adjust your gear ratio for different track conditions, you'll need different tooth counts—this Corally is available in multiple configurations to support this customisation.
- How do I know what tooth count pinion I need? — The tooth count directly affects your gear ratio and therefore your vehicle's performance characteristics. Generally, fewer teeth on the pinion (lower tooth count) gives faster acceleration but lower top speed, whilst more teeth on the pinion gives higher top speed but slower acceleration. The 24T in this product represents a mid-range option suitable for balanced performance. Your vehicle's manual, online RC forums and local RC club members can guide you on the optimal tooth count for your specific track and driving style. Corally offers this pinion in a range of tooth counts within the M0.6 module family.
- Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component for users who already own M0.6 geared RC cars. If you're new to RC and don't yet own an M0.6 geared vehicle, you'll need to start with a ready to run RC car or a kit that includes the gearing. However, once you own a compatible vehicle, replacing worn gears with quality components like this Corally pinion is an excellent entry point into RC maintenance and will improve your vehicle's performance immediately.
- What is a pinion gear and why does it matter? — A pinion gear is the small gear attached to your motor shaft that meshes with a larger spur gear attached to your vehicle's drivetrain. The ratio between the pinion tooth count and spur tooth count determines your final drive ratio, which controls how much torque and speed is delivered to the wheels. The quality of your pinion gear directly affects drivetrain efficiency, noise levels and durability. A precision-engineered pinion like this Corally ensures optimal performance.
- Will upgrading to this Corally pinion make my RC car faster? — A new, precision-engineered pinion will improve drivetrain efficiency, which can result in a small but measurable increase in top speed. More importantly, it will improve acceleration smoothness, reduce drivetrain vibration and noise, and deliver more consistent performance throughout your battery's discharge cycle. For competitive racing, these improvements accumulate into faster lap times. For casual driving, you'll notice smoother, more predictable power delivery.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — In regular use, a quality hardened steel pinion can last for many months or even years depending on usage intensity. Signs that replacement is needed include visible tooth wear, grinding noises during acceleration, or a roughness in the drivetrain feel. If you notice your car doesn't accelerate as smoothly as it used to, replacing the pinion is often the first troubleshooting step.
