Overview

The Corally 32 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 18 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (Model C-71518) is a precision-engineered pinion gear designed for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand reliability and performance. Whether you're running a competitive race setup or enjoying casual weekend bashing, this hardened steel pinion delivers the durability and consistency that serious RC car builders expect. Manufactured by Team Corally in Europe, this pinion gear represents the pinnacle of CNC precision engineering, ensuring your RC car runs smoothly and efficiently without vibration or unwanted noise.

This is not just another generic pinion gear — it's a high-performance component built with special hardened steel and cut using advanced CNC machinery to achieve perfect tooth geometry and concentricity. If you're searching for quality RC car parts in the UK, or looking to upgrade your RC vehicle with components that will stand up to serious use, the Corally 32 DP Pinion is an excellent choice. The 18-tooth configuration provides a balanced gear ratio suitable for a wide range of track conditions and driving styles, making it an ideal upgrade for builders looking to fine-tune their RC car's performance.

Team Corally has engineered this pinion to work seamlessly with all 32 DP gearbox systems, and the 3.17mm motor shaft diameter ensures perfect compatibility with standard brushless and brushed motors found in modern RC cars. Each pinion is individually marked with the tooth count for quick and easy identification, eliminating any guesswork when swapping gears or building multiple RC setups.

Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — This pinion is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides exceptional toughness and durability under extreme racing conditions, ensuring the gear teeth maintain their precision profile even after extended use and demanding track sessions.
  • CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Geometry — Every tooth is precisely cut using computer-numerically-controlled machinery, delivering perfect tooth shaping and ultra-true running characteristics that eliminate vibration and noise during operation.
  • Unparalleled Concentricity — The pinion is engineered with precise tolerances and concentricity, meaning the gear runs perfectly true without wobble or lateral movement, translating to smoother power delivery and longer component lifespan.
  • Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — The advanced manufacturing process ensures teeth are shaped with laser-like precision, allowing for smooth engagement with the spur gear and reducing mechanical stress on both components.
  • Vibration-Free Operation — Thanks to the ultra-true running characteristics and perfect concentricity, your RC car will run noticeably quieter and smoother compared to lower-quality pinion gears.
  • Easy Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth number (18T), making it simple to identify the correct gear when managing multiple setups or working on different RC cars.
  • Universal 32 DP Compatibility — This pinion is compatible with all RC cars featuring 32 DP gearbox systems, making it suitable for a broad range of competitive and recreational RC vehicles across the UK hobby scene.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Fitting — The 3.17mm motor shaft diameter is the industry standard for most modern brushless and brushed motors, ensuring hassle-free installation without adaptors or modifications.
  • Made in Europe — Manufactured to strict European quality standards, this Corally pinion represents genuine engineering excellence rather than mass-produced alternatives.

Technical Performance

The Corally 32 DP Pinion Short is engineered for serious RC car builders who understand that drivetrain components directly impact overall vehicle performance and longevity. At 18 teeth, this pinion delivers a balanced gear ratio that works across a variety of track conditions, from tight technical courses to faster flowing layouts. The hardened steel construction provides the toughness needed to handle repeated acceleration, cornering loads, and the occasional contact with track obstacles without tooth breakage or deformation. With a module specification of 32 DP (32 diametral pitch), this pinion engages perfectly with compatible spur gears to create a smooth, efficient drivetrain that transfers power to the wheels with minimal energy loss. The gear length of 9.00mm and teeth width of 4.00mm provide optimal contact surface area for reliable power transmission, whilst the 1.5mm hex key size for securing the pinion to the motor shaft ensures you can make quick adjustments without special tools. The CNC manufacturing process guarantees that every tooth profile is identical, eliminating the microsecond timing variations that plague cheaper gears and cause inconsistent acceleration feel. This precision engineering is particularly important in competitive RC racing, where consistency and predictability separate winners from the rest of the field. Whether you're upgrading an existing setup or building a new RC car from scratch, this pinion will serve as a reliable foundation for years of enjoyable RC motoring across the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the 32 DP specification and why does it matter? — DP stands for diametral pitch, which is a measurement of tooth density on a gear. A 32 DP pinion has 32 teeth per inch of diameter, making it a smaller, finer-pitched gear suitable for higher-speed racing applications. The 32 DP specification must match your RC car's spur gear — you cannot mix 32 DP pinions with 48 DP or other pitch gears, as they will not engage properly.
  • What does the 18T (18 teeth) mean and how does it affect my RC car's performance? — The 18-tooth count determines your gear ratio in combination with your spur gear. A smaller pinion number (fewer teeth) increases top speed but reduces acceleration, whilst a larger pinion number decreases top speed but improves acceleration. The 18T is a popular mid-range configuration that balances speed and torque across various track conditions.
  • Is this pinion compatible with my RC car? — The Corally 32 DP Pinion will fit any RC car that uses 32 DP gears and has a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter. This includes most modern 1/10 and 1/8 scale electric RC cars from major manufacturers. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm it uses 32 DP gearing before purchasing.
  • What is the difference between hardened steel and standard steel pinions? — Hardened steel pinions are heat-treated to increase their hardness and durability, making them more resistant to tooth breakage, wear, and deformation under load. Standard steel pinions are softer and wear out faster, especially under racing conditions. The hardened steel in this Corally pinion will last significantly longer and maintain its precision profile throughout its service life.
  • How do I install this pinion on my motor? — The pinion slides onto your motor shaft and is secured using a set screw (typically supplied with your motor or ESC). You will need a 1.5mm hex key (Allen key) to tighten the securing screw. Always align the pinion properly with your spur gear before fully tightening, and ensure there is no wobble or lateral movement.
  • Why is concentricity important in a pinion gear? — Concentricity refers to how perfectly centred the gear is on the motor shaft. A pinion with poor concentricity will wobble as it spins, causing vibration, noise, grinding sounds, and uneven wear on both the pinion and spur gear. The Corally pinion is engineered with exceptional concentricity, ensuring smooth, quiet operation and extended gear lifespan.
  • Can I use this pinion with brushed motors? — Yes, the Corally 32 DP Pinion works with both brushless and brushed motors as long as they feature a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter. However, you should verify your specific motor's shaft size before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
  • How often should I replace this pinion? — With proper maintenance and the hardened steel construction, this pinion will outlast many other components in your RC car. However, you should inspect it regularly for tooth wear or damage, particularly after crashes or heavy racing. Most hobbyists in the UK replace pinions annually or every 6-12 months depending on usage intensity.
  • What gearing combinations work with the 18T pinion? — The 18T pinion pairs with various spur gear tooth counts to achieve different final drive ratios. Common pairings include 70T, 76T, 81T, or 86T spur gears, depending on your desired top speed and acceleration characteristics. Consult your RC car's manual or local RC club members for recommended combinations for your specific vehicle and track.
