Key Features

  • Special Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from specially hardened steel that provides superior toughness and durability compared to standard steel gears, ensuring the teeth can withstand the forces generated during acceleration, cornering and extended running sessions without premature wear or stripping.
  • CNC-Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Each tooth is cut using precision CNC machinery to achieve perfect tooth geometry and ultra-true running characteristics, which eliminates vibration and noise during operation whilst ensuring smooth power delivery to the spur gear and drivetrain.
  • Ultra-Precise Manufacturing Standards — Team Corally produces all pinions on special gear machines that guarantee ultra-precise tooth shaping and concentricity, resulting in components that offer unparalleled reliability and performance consistency across the entire product batch.
  • 48 DP Module Specification — The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) rating means this pinion is compatible with all RC cars equipped with 48 DP spur gears and drivetrain systems, making it a universal solution for owners of modern 1/10 scale RC vehicles across the UK market.
  • 31-Tooth Tooth Count — The 31-tooth configuration provides an excellent mid-range gear ratio that balances acceleration response with top-end speed, making it ideal for mixed track layouts, carpet racing, and on-road competition where a compromise between punch and velocity is essential.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion is designed to fit all electric motors with a 3.17mm diameter output shaft, which is the standard size for brushless and brushed motors used in modern 1/10 scale RC cars, ensuring seamless integration with your existing powertrain.
  • Tooth Number Identification Marking — Every pinion is clearly marked with its tooth count for easy and quick identification, eliminating confusion when you have multiple gears in your spares box and saving valuable setup time at the track or between driving sessions.
  • 4mm Teeth Width — The 4mm width of the gear teeth provides solid engagement with your spur gear whilst maintaining the correct mesh for optimal power transmission and minimal backlash, which is crucial for precise handling and responsive throttle control in RC cars.
  • 9mm Gear Length — The 9mm overall length of the pinion ensures proper spacing within your gear box whilst maintaining adequate tooth engagement surface area for durability and smooth meshing characteristics throughout the gear's operational lifespan.
  • 1.5mm Hex Key Fitting — The pinion utilises a standard 1.5mm hex socket for installation and removal, meaning you can use any quality hex driver or the multi-tools commonly found in RC toolkits, making maintenance and gear ratio changes quick and accessible to users of all skill levels.

Technical Performance

The Corally 48 DP Pinion delivers exceptional engineering quality that reflects Team Corally's position as a leading manufacturer of RC drivetrain components. Built from specially hardened steel, this pinion gear is designed to withstand the extreme stresses encountered in modern 1/10 scale RC cars, whether you're competing in velocity trials, navigating tight on-road courses, or pushing your machine to the limit on high-grip carpet surfaces. The CNC-cut tooth profile ensures that every tooth meshes perfectly with your spur gear, eliminating the runout and concentricity issues that plague cheaper alternatives and can cause vibration, noise, and premature wear. With 31 teeth and a 48 DP module specification, this pinion integrates seamlessly with standard RC car gearboxes and delivers smooth, responsive power delivery that translates directly to better handling characteristics and more predictable acceleration. The 3.17mm bore accepts all standard brushless and brushed motors, making it a universal upgrade component for RC enthusiasts throughout the UK. Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC cars is the Corally 48 DP Pinion 31T compatible with? — This pinion fits all RC cars equipped with 48 DP spur gears and featuring a 3.17mm motor shaft diameter. This includes most modern 1/10 scale electric RC buggies, on-road cars, and short-course trucks from brands including Corally, Associated, TLR Racing, and many other manufacturers using standard 48 DP drivetrain systems. If you're unsure whether your specific RC model uses 48 DP gears, check your vehicle's user manual or contact RC Model Shop for confirmation.
  • How do I know which tooth count pinion I need? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your gear ratio and therefore your RC car's performance. Fewer teeth (lower numbers like 25T or 26T) provide faster top-end speed but less acceleration punch, whilst higher tooth counts (like 31T or 33T) deliver stronger acceleration response but lower maximum velocity. The 31-tooth option represents an excellent middle ground suitable for mixed-terrain layouts and general recreational use. Your vehicle's user manual may recommend specific tooth counts, or you can experiment to find the setting that best matches your track conditions and driving style.
  • Can I use this pinion if my motor shaft is a different diameter? — No, this pinion is specifically designed for 3.17mm diameter motor shafts and will not fit motors with different bore sizes such as 5mm or 2mm. Attempting to force a pinion onto an incompatible shaft will damage both the gear and your motor. Always verify your motor's shaft diameter before purchasing replacement pinions to ensure compatibility.
  • Why is hardened steel better than standard steel for pinion gears? — Hardened steel undergoes a specialised heat treatment process that increases its hardness, strength, and resistance to wear. This means Corally hardened steel pinions retain their tooth profile longer, resist stripping under load, and maintain superior mesh characteristics throughout their lifespan compared to standard steel alternatives. For RC car enthusiasts who run frequently or compete seriously, hardened steel pinions offer better long-term value and more predictable performance.
  • What does CNC-cut mean, and why does it matter? — CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cutting uses precision machinery to shape each tooth to exact specifications, ensuring that all teeth are identical and perfectly concentric (properly centred). This results in vibration-free, quiet operation and optimal power transmission. Cheaper gears are often stamped or moulded, which can produce inconsistent tooth shapes that cause vibration, noise, and accelerated wear. Corally's CNC manufacturing guarantees the quality and consistency you expect from a premium component.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion wear depends heavily on your usage: frequent racers might replace theirs every 50-100 hours of running, whilst casual weekend bashers might get many months or years of use. Inspect your pinion regularly for signs of tooth wear, chipping, or damage. If you notice unusual noise from the gearbox, poor acceleration response, or visible tooth profile degradation, it's time for a replacement. Keeping spare pinions in different tooth counts allows you to experiment with gear ratios and always have a backup ready.
  • Is this pinion suitable for beginners? — Yes, the Corally 48 DP Pinion is suitable for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels. Installation is straightforward, requiring only a 1.5mm hex driver to secure it to your motor shaft. Beginners should note that pinion selection affects vehicle performance, so starting with a mid-range option like this 31-tooth version is a sensible approach that delivers balanced acceleration and speed suitable for learning without extreme characteristics in either direction.
  • What is the difference between this and similar pinion models? — The Corally 48 DP Pinion stands out due to its hardened steel construction, CNC-cut precision, and European manufacturing standards. Competitor options may use standard steel (less durable), stamped teeth (less precise), or offer inconsistent quality. Team Corally's reputation for quality means you're investing in a component that will deliver reliable, predictable performance and exceptional longevity compared to budget alternatives.
