Key Features

  • 64 DP Pitch Standard — This pinion gear conforms to the 64 Diametral Pitch (DP) specification, which is a critical measurement in RC gear design that determines how the pinion meshes with your spur gear. Using the correct pitch ensures smooth power delivery and minimises wear on both the pinion and spur gear in your RC vehicle.
  • 37-Tooth Configuration — With 37 teeth, this pinion is suited to specific gearing ratios that affect your RC car's top speed and acceleration balance. A 37-tooth pinion represents a mid-range tooth count, offering versatility across different RC vehicle types and driving conditions.
  • Hardened Steel Construction — The pinion is manufactured from hardened steel, which provides superior wear resistance compared to standard steel or plastic alternatives. This hardening process makes the gear significantly more durable for high-performance RC applications where gear wear is a concern.
  • Short Profile Design — The short profile format is engineered to fit into compact drivetrain spaces, making it compatible with a wide range of modern RC car designs without requiring extensive chassis modifications or rebuilds.
  • 3.17mm Shaft Diameter — The 3.17mm (1/8-inch equivalent) shaft diameter is one of the most common motor shaft sizes in RC car engineering, ensuring compatibility with the vast majority of brushless and brushed motors used in UK RC hobbyist vehicles.
  • Genuine Corally Component — As an authentic Corally product, this pinion gear is manufactured to strict quality standards and represents genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specification, ensuring reliability and perfect fitment.
  • Replacement and Upgrade Part — This pinion is ideal as a replacement component when your existing gear wears out, or as an upgrade component if you're fine-tuning your RC car's performance characteristics through different gearing combinations.

Technical Performance

The Corally 64 DP Pinion Short Hardened Steel 37 Teeth represents precision engineering at its finest, constructed from hardened steel material that outperforms standard alternatives in terms of longevity and reliability. In RC car applications, the pinion gear is one of the most stressed components, experiencing constant high-speed rotation and bearing the full load of power transmission from the motor to the spur gear. The hardened steel construction of this Corally pinion ensures that even under demanding racing conditions or high-speed RC car use, the gear maintains its profile and tooth engagement, resisting the micro-fractures and wear that plague lesser quality gears. The 64 DP pitch specification is a widely adopted standard in modern RC car engineering, particularly for 1/10 scale vehicles, providing excellent tooth engagement and meshing characteristics. At 37 teeth, this pinion sits in a versatile mid-range, offering balanced performance—neither sacrificing acceleration for top speed, nor limiting top speed to achieve explosive acceleration. The 3.17mm shaft diameter ensures direct compatibility with the overwhelming majority of RC brushless and brushed motors found in UK RC shops and used in competitive RC car racing. The short profile design is engineered to save weight and space while maintaining full strength, a critical consideration in modern RC vehicle design where chassis geometry and weight distribution directly impact handling characteristics. Whether you're running this pinion in a 1/10 scale RC buggy, RC truck, or truggy, the materials and engineering ensure thousands of kilometres of reliable performance before replacement becomes necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 64 DP pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — The 64 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification defines the gear tooth size and spacing. In RC car engineering, using gears with matching DP ensures smooth meshing and power transfer from your motor to the wheels. Mixing DP specifications will result in poor meshing, excessive wear, and potential drivetrain failure. A 64 DP pinion must work with a 64 DP spur gear for optimal performance.
  • Is this pinion gear compatible with my RC car motor? — This pinion is designed for motors with a 3.17mm shaft diameter, which is the standard for most 1/10 scale RC car motors. Check your motor's shaft diameter specification—if it matches 3.17mm, this pinion will fit perfectly. Always verify your motor's shaft diameter before ordering replacement gears.
  • How many teeth should I choose for my RC car setup? — The tooth count directly affects your RC car's gearing ratio and performance characteristics. A 37-tooth pinion like this one provides a balanced middle ground—not too aggressive for acceleration, not limited for top speed. If you want faster top speed, you might consider a lower tooth count; if you prefer more acceleration, you might choose higher teeth. The 37-tooth configuration is ideal for general-purpose RC car driving.
  • Why is hardened steel better than standard steel or plastic for pinion gears? — Hardened steel undergoes a heat-treatment process that increases its hardness and wear resistance dramatically. This means your pinion will maintain its tooth profile longer, resisting the wear that would eventually cause meshing problems. In high-performance RC cars where drivetrain stress is constant, hardened steel pinions significantly outlast their standard alternatives, making them a smart investment.
  • What is the difference between short and long profile pinion gears? — A short profile pinion (like this model) is narrower axially, saving weight and fitting into compact chassis designs. A long profile pinion is wider and may provide slightly more surface area for gear teeth, but requires more space. Most modern RC cars use short profile pinions due to their space efficiency and weight advantages.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With hardened steel construction like this Corally pinion, you should expect thousands of kilometres of use before replacement is necessary. Factors affecting lifespan include driving intensity, gear mesh quality, lubrication, and spur gear condition. Inspect your pinion regularly—if you notice chipped or worn teeth, it's time to replace it to prevent further drivetrain damage.
  • Is this a genuine Corally product? — Yes, this is an authentic Corally component manufactured to OEM specifications. Genuine Corally pinion gears ensure perfect fitment, consistent quality, and guaranteed compatibility with Corally vehicles and standard RC components. When purchasing from RC Model Shop, you're guaranteed genuine parts backed by manufacturer warranty.
