Technical Performance
The C-70430 pinion exemplifies modern precision engineering standards in the RC hobby. Manufactured on specialised CNC gear-cutting equipment, every tooth is profiled to perfection, ensuring ultra-precise tooth shaping and concentricity that eliminates vibration and delivers smooth power delivery. The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification means this pinion is engineered to work in perfect mesh with 48 DP spur gears commonly found in competitive RC cars. The 30-tooth count provides a specific gear ratio that balances acceleration with top-end speed, making it ideal for various track configurations and driving styles. The 9.00mm overall length and 4.00mm teeth width have been calculated to provide optimal engagement with mating gears whilst maintaining minimal mass. With a 1.5mm hex key size for installation, the pinion integrates easily into standard RC car motor mounts. The 3.17mm motor shaft diameter compatibility ensures secure fit with modern brushless RC motors. The hard anodised 7075 T6 aluminium construction provides tensile strength exceeding standard aluminium whilst remaining significantly lighter than steel alternatives, a critical advantage in competitive RC racing where weight reduction directly impacts acceleration, handling and overall performance. The hard anodised surface provides exceptional corrosion resistance, meaning this pinion will maintain its performance characteristics even in damp British conditions common to many UK RC tracks and outdoor racing venues.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this pinion compatible with my RC car? — The C-70430 is designed for all 48 DP geared RC cars using 3.17mm motor shafts, which includes a wide range of modern competitive and recreational RC vehicles sold across the UK. Check your vehicle's specifications to confirm it uses a 48 DP transmission and 3.17mm motor shaft; if so, this pinion will integrate seamlessly.
- What is the tooth count and why does it matter? — The 30-tooth configuration determines your vehicle's gear ratio when meshed with your spur gear. A 30-tooth pinion provides a specific balance of acceleration and top speed; for example, paired with a 70-tooth spur gear, it creates a 2.33:1 ratio offering competitive acceleration. Different tooth counts allow you to adjust performance for various track layouts and driving preferences.
- Why is 7075 T6 aluminium better than standard aluminium? — 7075 T6 is aerospace-grade aluminium offering significantly higher tensile strength and hardness compared to standard aluminium alloys, meaning it resists wear and damage from high-speed operation whilst remaining approximately 65% lighter than steel. The T6 heat treatment further enhances strength. This combination makes it ideal for high-performance RC racing applications.
- What makes CNC-cut teeth superior to stamped or moulded teeth? — CNC machining creates teeth with perfect geometric profiles and concentricity, ensuring smooth, vibration-free engagement with your spur gear. Stamped or moulded teeth often have inconsistencies that cause vibration, noise and power loss. The precision of CNC cutting means this Corally pinion delivers consistent performance throughout its operational lifespan.
- Does the hard anodised coating affect performance? — The hard anodised coating actually enhances performance by providing wear resistance without adding appreciable weight. The coating protects the aluminium from oxidation and abrasion, maintaining smooth gear mesh and extending service life, particularly important for competitive racing in variable British weather conditions.
- What is 48 DP and how does it relate to gear compatibility? — 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) is a standardised gear specification defining tooth size and spacing. A 48 DP pinion must be used with 48 DP spur gears to achieve proper mesh; mixing different DP specifications will result in poor engagement, noise, vibration and potential component failure. Always ensure your spur gear matches the 48 DP specification.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst pinion gears are straightforward to install, this component is typically purchased by experienced racers optimising existing RC cars rather than beginners. If you're new to RC, we recommend starting with a ready-to-run RC car UK package and consulting with experienced RC enthusiasts before attempting drivetrain modifications.
- What is the difference between this 30-tooth pinion and other tooth counts? — Lower tooth counts (e.g. 28T) provide higher final drive ratios, increasing top speed but reducing acceleration. Higher tooth counts (e.g. 32T) do the opposite, prioritising acceleration over speed. The 30-tooth option represents a balanced middle ground suitable for diverse track conditions; choose different counts to fine-tune your vehicle's characteristics.
- How do I install this pinion? — Remove your existing pinion using a 1.5mm hex key, slide the new pinion onto your motor shaft, and tighten securely. Ensure the motor shaft is clean and free of debris for proper seating. The tooth marking on the pinion helps confirm correct installation orientation.
- Will this pinion fit my standard brushless motor? — Yes, provided your motor has a standard 3.17mm output shaft, which is the most common specification for competitive RC motors. This pinion will not fit larger shaft sizes (such as 5mm or 6.35mm) used in some specialist applications. Always verify your motor's shaft diameter before purchasing.
