Overview

The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hard Anodised AL7075 28 Teeth Shaft Dia. 3.17mm (C-70428) is a precision-engineered pinion gear designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand the very best in performance and durability. This component is essential for anyone running 48 DP geared RC cars, whether you're competing at the track or enjoying recreational bashing with your RC model. As a critical drivetrain component, your choice of pinion gear directly affects acceleration, top speed and overall handling characteristics of your RC vehicle.

Manufactured by Team Corally and made in Europe, this pinion represents the pinnacle of RC gear engineering. Whether you're upgrading an existing RC car UK setup or building a new competition machine, the C-70428 delivers the precision and reliability that serious RC hobbyists expect. The 28-tooth configuration offers a versatile gear ratio suitable for a wide range of driving conditions and track layouts, making it an ideal choice for both circuit racing and general performance driving.

For RC car enthusiasts in the UK seeking reliable, high-performance drivetrain components, this hard-anodised aluminium pinion is exactly what you need. The meticulous manufacturing process ensures every tooth is perfectly shaped for smooth, vibration-free operation, translating to better control and faster lap times when it matters most.

Key Features

  • 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — The pinion is machined from premium 7075 T6 aluminium and subjected to hard anodising, which creates an exceptionally tough surface finish that resists wear, corrosion and damage from repeated use, ensuring your investment lasts for many seasons of RC driving.
  • CNC-Cut Precision Teeth — Every tooth is cut using computer-controlled machining to achieve perfect tooth geometry and concentricity, which eliminates gear mesh inconsistencies and ensures smooth, efficient power transfer with zero vibration during operation.
  • 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) Module — The 48 DP specification means this pinion is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars and works seamlessly with matching spur gears, allowing you to experiment with different gear ratios to optimise performance for your specific track or driving style.
  • 28-Tooth Configuration — The 28-tooth count represents a mid-range gearing option that balances acceleration and top speed, making this pinion versatile enough for diverse track layouts and driving conditions without requiring multiple sets.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Engineered specifically to fit 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, this pinion ensures a secure fit with no wobble or runout, maintaining perfect alignment with your spur gear and eliminating power loss or premature wear.
  • Tooth Number Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with the tooth count for instant identification, making it easy to organize your spare parts collection and quickly swap gears during races or tuning sessions.
  • 4mm Tooth Width — The precision 4mm tooth width provides optimal contact area with the spur gear, distributing loads evenly across the tooth surfaces and maximising durability under the stresses of competitive racing.
  • Short Profile Design — The compact 9mm gear length is specifically engineered for tight motor mounting spaces, allowing you to optimize your vehicle's chassis layout and weight distribution without sacrificing strength or reliability.
  • 1.5mm Hex Key Installation — Simple installation using a standard 1.5mm hex key means you can change gears quickly between races or practice sessions without requiring specialised tools.

Technical Performance

The C-70428 represents the absolute pinnacle of RC gear manufacturing, combining cutting-edge engineering with time-tested materials science. Built from 7075 T6 aluminium — one of the strongest aluminium alloys available — and hardcoated through a specialised anodising process, this pinion delivers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that serious RC competitors demand. The hard anodising process creates a ceramic-like surface layer that dramatically improves wear resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal durability, meaning this gear will maintain its performance characteristics through hundreds of hours of intense use. Unlike standard gears that may develop play or noise over time, the CNC-cut teeth on this pinion feature ultra-precise tooth shaping that maintains perfect mesh geometry with your spur gear, eliminating vibration and noise that would otherwise rob you of speed and control. The 48 DP pitch standard ensures compatibility across the entire ecosystem of 48 DP geared RC cars, from affordable entry-level machines to high-end competition vehicles. With a shaft diameter of 3.17mm, this pinion integrates seamlessly with standard RC motor designs commonly found in 1/10 scale vehicles. The 28-tooth count positions this gear as a versatile all-rounder, offering a sweet spot between acceleration and top speed that works well on most track layouts without requiring constant gear swaps. Whether you're running a brushless motor on 2S, 3S or 4S LiPo batteries in your RC car, this pinion will handle the power delivery without slipping or stripping, thanks to its superior material properties and precision manufacturing. Team Corally's European manufacturing standards ensure every single pinion meets the same exacting tolerances, eliminating the inconsistency sometimes found in lower-cost alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — A pinion gear is the small gear on your RC car's motor that meshes with the larger spur gear on the transmission. Over time, pinion teeth can wear down or become damaged from impacts, reducing performance and creating noise. Having spare pinions in different tooth counts allows you to adjust your vehicle's gear ratio for different tracks and driving styles.
  • Will the 28-tooth pinion fit my RC car? — Yes, provided your RC car uses 48 DP gearing and has a 3.17mm motor shaft. Check your vehicle's manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm these specifications before ordering. This pinion is designed to fit all 48 DP geared cars regardless of brand.
  • What is hard anodising and why does it matter? — Hard anodising is a specialised surface treatment that creates an ultra-tough ceramic-like coating on the aluminium. This makes the pinion significantly more durable and wear-resistant than standard anodised or bare aluminium gears, extending the life of the component and maintaining consistent performance over many months of use.
  • How do I know which pinion tooth count I need? — Pinion tooth count directly affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed. Fewer teeth mean faster acceleration but lower top speed; more teeth mean higher top speed but slower acceleration. The 28-tooth option offers a balanced middle ground suitable for most track conditions. Experiment with different counts to find the perfect setup for your specific needs.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a professional-grade component, it is suitable for any RC enthusiast who owns a compatible 48 DP geared vehicle. Beginners should ensure they understand their vehicle's specifications before purchasing, but installation is straightforward with a simple 1.5mm hex key.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion lifespan depends on usage intensity. Competitive racers might replace pinions several times per season, whilst recreational bashers may use the same pinion for months or even years. Inspect regularly for worn or chipped teeth and replace as needed to maintain optimal performance.
  • What is the difference between this 28-tooth pinion and other tooth counts? — Team Corally produces 48 DP pinions in various tooth counts. The 28-tooth version is a mid-range option; smaller tooth counts (like 26T or 24T) provide quicker acceleration but lower top speed, whilst larger tooth counts (like 30T or 32T) offer higher top speed but require more motor torque.
